Martin.Brilliant video.Never done a handbrake cable, on any car, ever, before but after watching this I feel as though I could. My daughter has a 1.2 Sxi Corsa, her 1st car, and the handbrake is playing up.So I may be having to get my hands dirty sooner than I had hoped.Hope you're still doing these videos as they're very informative and really appreciated.Keep up the good work.Mark.
As always you get right in with the camera as all video should always be done, And you always show all that you had done never really skipping anything ,Not like many of the idiots out there, I just happened to be doing my hand brake this week and thank god you are showing how it needs to be done,This I can follow easily, Thanks for making this video` Respect to ya,I still say you are Ray winstone acting as a youtuber LOL
Good work. Don’t forget these cables stretch over time too, the outer cable can also compress so you end up with cables that aren’t snapped but don’t apply enough ‘pull’ to the mechanism in the drums. This is the problem with my son’s Corsa and I will be changing the lot soon!!
Great video , I've got Tigra B but most of these parts are identical. You mentioned about ordering the wrong parts, I did the same , what a nightmare that was , so many variations between models. Last year I replaced the short cables at the drums , everything was seized , so had the shoes replaced as well. Freed up the main cables , noticed they were a bit frayed but couldn't bring myself to replace them at that time , LOL. Finally plucked up the courage to do it yesterday , didn't take that long actually , except for dodging the heavy rain ! You are completely right about keeping the adjusting nut at the end of the rod when attaching the last of the cable connectors. All back together now and working great , almost like a normal hand brake again :-) Count me in as a new subscriber to your channel.
I just broke the handbrake on my wife's Corsa. This video gave me the confidence to at least go and check if it is indeed one of the cables, and I might even try and fix it myself! This video is amazing, thanks!
The cable that runs across the rear beam on mine had snapped, and the main cable was also frayed, so changed them both. I managed to split the main cable above the heatshield, so didnt have to sod about inside the car removing it. Big thanks for this, all done, didnt take too long.
Fantastic video. Very helpful. I found that there are 3 lugs on the hub centre circular dust cover, and if you lightly tap them the cover comes off undamaged. Tnx again bud!
Great job Martin. I did the same repair to a Tigra mk1, exactly the same cable! Although once back together, I put a big dollop of grease on the rear cable guides to let the cable slip through freely, less chance of fraying. Out with the t-cut to get the scratches out of the Mondeo bonnet though. Keep it up.
Yes, I should have put copperslip on mine but that was in the log cabin and i'm a lazy git so I just used WD40 haha. I'll do it today though. Cheers Martin
Changed all my handbrake cable today, this video was a great help thanks again martin, the worst part of the job was the handbrake lever end but once removed the whole assembly it was easy.
Mate - I'm delighted to have found your videos! My 2006 Corsa C 1.4 Twinport just failed it's MOT because I snapped my handbrake cable, and the Offside driveshaft was knackered. Going to do the jobs myself - thanks very much for the great tutorials!
Great video - many thanks. I was able to replace both L and R centre cables which had frayed in their guides near the trailing arms. (the Left centre cable is much longer and runs to the brake lever cable coming from the interior). The other 3 cables were fine. 2 hours work and £20 for parts from ECP
Really useful vid thanks a lot. Can now save my son a few quid getting his Corsa through the MOT as it failed on handbrake cable. By the way your videos are some of the best quality on you tube!!
Many thanks Martin , sorted my MoT fail out after the tester snapped the central cable! Must have been ready to go I guess. Nice straightforward video. I found that undoing the 4 bolts holding the handbrake assembly down helped me to be able to be able to get to that awkward coupling between the handbrake short cable and the central cable going to the back ( I pulled the old cable out and then fed the new one up through the hole in the bulkhead.
Nice to see its a bit drier up there in Linc's, Martin - compared to a very wet North Wales. Almost fell asleep though listening to the relaxing background tune you had playing. Cheers.
Awesome Video Bud! Only needed to watch as far as removing the rear brake hubs but watched til end coz I know the handbrake is gonna need doing in the future. BTW looks like the wifes Tigra Twintop has the exact same handbrake setup.
You will bankrupt Haynes Manuals my friend 👍👍🤣. What an excellent tutorial video, again using the common tools that most of us have laying around in the shed or in a little tool box. Worked carried out in the typical enviroment of most DIY people. I think its time to start putting this crackin' videos on DVD's and start making some serious money pal. Greetings from Nottingham.
That looked to go pretty smoothly. I was thinking about you today and wishing you where my neighbor. Changed out the muffler on my Jeep and it was really a two man job. All the best, Jay
Great video Martin, i thought you would have copper greased those cable runners at the back keep them free. But you got the job sorted that's what matters. Look forward to more great vids Martin. Cheers, Jeff.
Very very good video. I did my brakes today with the small cables. Now pulling my handbrake it goes all the way up and doesn't grabe with the brakes could the cable be stretched ?
Thanks, I recently changed rear brakes and bearings on my Tigra A and I saw that handbrake cable is bad. I didn't know how to get cable from the drums,I didn't see that little clip. Now I know how to change it :)
is it best to put the cable on the lever arm inside the drum first or is it best on the bracket outside the drum or wont it make no difference difficulty wise thanks
Awesome vid, even for a Dane like my your British is easy to understand. The only "bad things" (for me) are that: It's winter and snow now, even though I have a small garage it's not nice to do such work now. And I only have the original jack that came with the car, and no axle stands. And no torque wrench. And it's pretty dark in my - by now - winter cold garage. I DO have a head lamp, though. Nah, I'll leave it to my mechanic. I think my excuses are valid. I do change oil and such myself, though. But thanks for the vid, was almost mesmerizing to watch.
when removing the rear hubs there is a hole in the back of the hub for you to release the pressure on the shoes. little rubber bung you pull out and use a screwdriver to move the handbrake adjuster - easy. no hammering of drum or levering required.
Hi mate, great video! I think I've literally just snapped mine (not had a look to see what part is gone yet). The parts usually come in 4 1 x Left Hand Rear Hand Brake Cable 1 x Right Hand Rear Hand Brake Cable 1 x Left Hand Centre Intermediate Hand Brake Cable 1 x Right Hand Centre Intermediate Hand Brake Cable Just wondering what the 5th cable you mentioned is called? Just in case I need to replace that too. Thanks!
Just put new shoes on a corsa c and the nearside wheel is stiff to turn by hand. Drum went on ok but after test driving it feels like the brake is stuck on slightly on that side. What should i check? Thanks for the helpful videos.
Check the little plastic blocks that the handbrake cable sits on at each rear wheel, they are prone to getting crudded up and stopping the handbrake cable releasing fully. Give them a good clean and lube.
I have Opel corsa jubileum 1,2 (1999) and i need to adjust hand break, I was looking for the nut which should seat underneath hand break but my car carpet cover all around hand break, so i wonder if you know where that nut adjustment should be and how can i find it ! Thanks
I am looking for a 2001 3 door fiesta with electrics on it and central locking I can't get one in Ireland would you happen to know where I will get one I don't mind paying up to 600 pounds for one or travelling and I also want to front leather seats from a ford ka
For me, it might feel like the cable was broken, but it was actually stuck on the guides where the cable was frayed. This resulted in the cable not getting back to tension which made it hang loose, as if it was broken.
At least the cable went in the Summer! Laying under the car in the depths of winter would have been fun - not that were having much of a summer here in Lincs!
I made the error of removing the adjuster nut. Nightmare trying to feed the cable through enough. to get it back on. I literally need an inch and it's not budging :(
