    For some reason as I was blending, I didn't think to actually move the magnets. (DUH!) Obviously, of course you can move the magnets around to get those corners that they covered. Sorry about the oversight!

      Ashlea_Crafts Do you mean move the magnets around in order to get the corners stencilled? Would moving the magnets shift you paper? Thank you.

    • @ashlea_crafts1767
      @ashlea_crafts1767  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Deborah! Yes, that’s what I mean. I think if you move each magnet one at a time, the other three will hold the stencil in and paper in place. :)

      i was going to say just move the magnets top to bottom when covering the corners ahahahahahahaha

      I’m enjoying your review and have paused it to mention that you might want to try Pixie Spray on the back of the stencil. I just bought some to try (I have not yet used it). I’ve seen reviews of the spray and it seems to keep the stencil tight to the paper so the magnets can be used JUST on the stencil itself. I am anxious to try.

    Great review! I'm definitely going to get one because I love the ruler. I think for using it with messy mediums I'd put some Press 'n Seal over the surface to protect it. And I think maybe sticking some cabinet bumper feet onto the bottom. Pro & Cons were great points too!

    Hi so when I watched Wendy do this with the stencil, she put the magnets right on top to securely hold both in pkace, applied color, moved the magnets to the area she colored. Then finished the areas covered up by magnets. Kind of like you did in the second example. Easy Peasy 😃 thanks for the review!

    Great review! I’ve had mine for several weeks now but didn’t open it until yesterday as I’ve been pretty sick. Didn’t see a ruler in mine. Unfortunately, I don’t remember who I ordered it from. Do you think using Saran Wrap or clear contact paper over the board would be helpful? Thanks for this review. 👍🏽👍🏽. You can always get additional magnets and those stick on “feet” (they look like raised silicone dots) to stabilize the board, from an art supply store, Lowe’s or Home Depot. 😉

    I use a extra set of magnets to hold the craft mat. I also have both sizes of the Tim Holtz glass craft mat, so any messy media I use on the glass mats. Great video, and I agree with you on your cons! Mostly making cards and using on the floor, or on the go, with no messy stuff. It works ok.

    Did you consider turning the mat over with your alcohol inks. If it stains who cares and would protect your grids. Love this, ordered today. Loved your review. Also, I purchased a 2nd non stick mat and cut into different sizes, for use with smaller projects.

      Fabulous idea! Will definitely be doing that in the future. Thank you! I hope you love your mat as much as I do!

      Helpful review, and helpful comments, too. I would not have thought to use the back of the Stay-tion for working with media that might stain, or remove the gridlines. I ended up getting the Stay-tion, when I might have passed on it, thanks to comments pointing out that the back could be used as well as the front. Note: The gridlines are *not *etched, unfortunately (though that's probably part of the reason for the relatively low price). Overall, I'm pretty happy with this tool; it's very thin, making it easy to store, and I prefer it to a craft mat when I'm using a heat gun because the magnets seem to reduce the amount of warping. The ruler is a nice feature, though it's flimsier than I'd prefer -- another way the cost was kept down, I think.

    Obviously way way late to video viewing lol. I'm a newbie to cardmaking but also do other types of crafting (like dollhouse renos). I really like this whole concept, it brings out the wanna be architect in some ways for floor planning etc. I've also watched WV's video (at a craft show) using all the extra pieces she's come out with since that work with the mat and it only made me like it more. So . . . in relationship to the cons list:
    Medias that stain - what if you used saran or cling wrap or an acetate sheet to protect the surface?
    Making it skid resistant by using the small stick on rubber feet?
    Making the sheet ruled using a ruled masking tape along the edges? Or a white permanent marker?
    Your thoughts?

    Thank you for taking the time to do the review. I am considering getting this because the word “straight” is obviously not I’m my vocabulary. I have a terrible time doing anything straight. Much to the chagrin of my husband my parking is horribly crooked. I purposely stamp my sentiments off kilter so it’s not so obvious that I can’t stamp straight.

    Hi,. Can you use the magnets to hold down cardstock when you are watercoloring on it? I think it would be great to be able to do that with the MINI stay-tion and then move it aside to dry. Thank you.

  • @pikeandike
    @pikeandike 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks Ashley, your final review says you would use glitter paste, etc., but you talk about how the hand sanitizer took off the grid markings, so I wouldn’t use glitter pastes (myself) and stuff like that because I use hand sanitizer to get stuff off of my glass mat and would probably use it here too...and then my grid would be gone. I guess you would have to be diligent about not using it on this mat, just a baby wipe or wet paper towel. Thanks for the review as I am expecting mine next week from Simon Says Stamp, which costs $19.99 (still a good price imho). 😎

    • @ashlea_crafts1767
      @ashlea_crafts1767  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely still a great price point! Was just sharing where I purchased mine from :) Yes, absolutely refrain from using alcohol based cleaners on this surface. I usually use only water to clean my glitter paste as I try to get to it directly after applying so it’s still wet, but if it dries on the surface and you have to scratch it off, I think it would wear at the grid overtime but I didn’t find that scratching or rough movement took off my grid, in my trial, at least. Thank you so much for watching and for your comment!

    Best review. I saw this selling but didn't get it. Now seeing this review its a definate. I might get some stronger neocadmium magnets too, for when I want to use a craft mat.

      Priscilla S it’s perfect for stenciling! I’d suggest getting some non slip grips for the bottom, or being sure to hold onto the stay-tion while blending to ensure no movement!

    Can you please tell me what the peg board bracket/holder that's holding your (looks like a score board or paper trimmer) is called.... I've looked for a bracket like that for my peg board but can't fine one.... TIA

    QUESITON: If i was to use it and put Nuvo Glimmer Paste on the stencil, would it wipe off the board easily? Thank you.

    • @ashlea_crafts1767
      @ashlea_crafts1767  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Deborah! If you wiped off the paste before it would remove pretty easily, however if you had to scrub very hard the white grid may rub away.

    I’m late to this video, but when stenciling you can tape the card to the stencil from underneath. Then flip it over, attach the magnets to the stencil, the card is underneath, and then ink the card. That way the magnets aren’t on the card, hopefully the card won’t move, and you don’t have to stencil a larger piece of card to later cut down. I don’t have this tool but I think it will work.

    The tonic studios one is foam backed I think, it seems like it won't slip.. However it comes with a measly two magnets.. And no ruler, with little optional extras (that I can see so far anyway).
    The memory keepers one seems OK, but I do prefer the look of this one, with the ruler that comes with, and also the clear ruler option too.. but why isn't it backed, its just going to move around (lots of us have glass craft mats we work on too, to add to the slip).. Urgh. I guess it's just what's important to you, whether you want to add bits to it (none slip backing etc). Thanks for being honest and trying various things, I appreciate that x

    I have a beautiful refurbished retro tanker desk with a cutting mat in my craft room, along with a glass mat for blending and alcohol inks.
    The only thing I’d need here is the magnetic ruler, since it would adhere to the steel tanker desk under the mat, which means I already have my grid and my magnetic base. Do you know if they sell this separately?

    • @ashlea_crafts1767
      @ashlea_crafts1767  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I love the ruler aspect as well! I don’t think they sell this one in particular separately but here’s a link to a flexible magnetic measuring tape which I think would work for your work space! Great review on this new mat! As I'm watching the mat move around I'm thinking that maybe a rubber mat under the "new" mat would keep it from "walking" around so much! You can take that rubber mat up when doing your alcohol inks so you can move your new mat around to move those inks. Just a thought. tfs ; )

    The craft mat is used when you use archival ink. The surface does not accept archival ink. The surface accepts alcohol ink. Per Wendy Vecchi. Know your product before presenting information.
