I enjoyed the original “Tanks” I’d prefer to have to build the models but I can understand why they’ve made the decision to have them already built. The models look really good and the priming seems very well done, you probably wouldn’t need to base coat them, just go straight to weathering. As I understand it the rules are pretty much the same as the original game which are really simple but enjoyable and ideal for new gamers. I don’t think this starter set is too pricey either so I might add it to my collection.
I wasn't a fan of building the original tanks. Too many micro pieces. Although some options would've been nice. I'm sure this will just be for the starter set. I'm excited for this game though, ready to move on to send new games
Totally feels like they took a lot of inspiration from X-Wing. Which is good. X-Wing has its flaws but it has great bones. I hope this can be a friendly ‘beer and pretzels’ pickup game. I think I’ll be getting it for the models at the very least!
I'm still concerned about how/if the original game will mesh with the new one. I already have so much invested in the original. It looks like most stuff will carry over well. My only complaint so far is that the original starter set also included cards for all of the other existing tanks out there so that you could look at what you wanted to buy next or make use of models that you might already have. This set looks to only come with cards for the 4 tanks in the box, so it takes that nice feature of the original away.
I'm sorry, I didn't even know the old one existed, so I'm coming at this with fresh eyes. This is a starter set designed for new players and they probably have to keep it a price point, so like Star Wars X-Wing 2nd edition you don't get all the cards for everything in the starter.
@@EsotericOrderGamers Yeah, The game originally came out a few years back simply titled "Tanks" with a "Panther vs Sherman" starter set. Game play wise, it is nearly identical except for a couple rules that have been removed. They overhauled the UI of things a little and slapped on the WoT sponsorship. I get what you say about them not including extra stuff. I was just spoiled by the original game. It would have been nice to have some extra cards in there for those of us that already have a large collection, since they have changed considerably and the old ones aren't really compatible anymore.
@@EsotericOrderGamers Should probably note that the original starter was also only $25. It did come with one less model, but a lot more other stuff. I guess licensing fee's raised the price of this one.
@@EsotericOrderGamers These aren't "primed" either. They are molded in faction colored plastic, just like the original ones. The old ones weren't built though, which is a plus and a minus. Prebuilt models are nice because they might bring in different people who had no interest in building the models, but at the same time, it removes the ability to build actual variants of different tanks with alternate armor and weapon loadouts.
One of the few times I would have bought two base game sets if I were to play due to the lack of expansion. That said , I’m not to fond of the quality of the tanks, reminds me too much the tanks I used to have as a kid and well , not to be disrespectful but they were cheap. The one thing I wanted to ask however is related to JOA instead. Have you played it’s expansions? I’m having a hard time deciding between Apocalypse and the new Teutonic expansion or neither. On one have I absolutely love the Apocalypse contents and find the Teutonic ones somewhat lucklaster, on the other it offers a better value for money and I’m Polish by nationality , even if I havnt lived in the country since the age of four.
The tanks look good to me, what more would you want at that scale? Re Joan of Arc, I can't really decide for you, though as a rule of thumb I tend to go for what excites and interests me rather than worry too much about 'value' - value is what you end up playing the most, not what includes the most 'stuff'. I have Apocalypse and I love the weird and wild Medieval fantastical style of it. Haven't played any of the scenarios yet but it's going to be fun and challenging to paint it, and will look amazing in action!
The Esoteric Order of Gamers Maybe painted they’ll be more appealing to me , might be the glossy shine that’s lowering my opinion. With Joa, I’ll have to take a relook at the box continent and gameplay of the two expansions. The appeal is there for both honestly. The new expansion adds a new variety of gameplay elements with new tiles while the apocalypse is just gorgeous. Would buy both if I had the guarantee I would play it or the money for that mind you. Ironically I had this dilemma with the initial pledge manager , then it finally closed and whilst I had regrets , I was happy it was behind me. Now it has been reopened....
They are the exact same models as the ones used in "Flames of War", just preassembled. The ones from the original game were those exact models even. While I did like buying the unassembled ones so that you could customize them and build alternate variants of the tanks, I can see why they went this route. Because of their size, the models were rather tedious to assemble and it likely turned off some potential players from taking an interest in the game.
Trueflight Silverwing Fair enough, I’ll see if my opinions change from watching a play through. Except for the tank issue I had, I’d say the game seems fairly solid to the point I wouldn’t mind playing it myself. Or at least that’s the idea I get seeing the other components. Might actually share this game with a friend whom I know is a large fan of this particular game in its online scope and loves the dudes on a map style games. Or whatever the genre of 40k , conquest etc was called.
The Esoteric Order of Gamers HEY, that’s an idea!!!! Completely immersive game pieces!!! My tank in the middle 90’s was used for the sounds of the game M1 tank platoon... Credits on the back thank the California Army National Guard... I’m sure they still have the digital recordings!!🤣🤣🤣
