Thanks a bunch, I was wondering if it was possible to remove the shifter pivot bolt without dropping the box out of the car, personally I just tapped that lip down with a hammer, Thanks :)
Helppp I can not get my 2000 Jetta into reverse. Tried adjusting the cables just like your other video instructed and no luck. The car has done alot of sitting
hey a bit of advise needed. I recently swapped a 02a in my mk2 but i have an issue with the shifter. it's how far i have to move it in order to get it in gear, first is a bit to the left as i should be reverse is a bit more and third is up. but fifth is really far from third so far that im struggling to got it in gear. now i don't think it is the adjustment, because if i move it just a little bit to the reverse side, it won't go into reverse. so do you have an idea what could be causing it?
If its not going into to gear as far as reverse and or 5th gear you may have to adjust the cable inside the motor area. There is a nut there you may have to adjust. I had to do this. Make small adjustments tighten the nut and have someone run thru the gears. The is for 1998-1999 bugs the newer ones are different.
Thank you for showing how to access the shift linkage -I was stumped, and our city has no VW dealer, the nearest one is 350 miles away

You're the man! Very helpful, managed to do it myself thanks to you!

Im having issues where the ball on the welded bracket keeps popping out of the guide when i put into reverse

Can i swap an o2j on the Mk3 tdi?
Yup. You just need the transmission tower, shifter cable box and transmission mounting brackets.
Hope this will work for a 1996 VW jetta
