DIO was so traumatized by what Jonathan was able to do to him (despite DIO "transcending humanity") that he could not help but panic at every unexpected movement Jotaro was able to make. In a way Jonathan was protecting his great great grandson even after all this time.

13:15 when polnareff attacked he 100% believed he was the last surviving crusader. Imagine the fear and bravery needed to attack DIO after seeing all your companions being brutally murdered.

I never even realized that. Avdol, Iggy, and Kakyoin were all dead, Joseph was still dead, and Jotaro was playing dead right in front of him. Polnareff was ready to die as the last Crusader fighting for their cause.
Oh shit I never realised that. He also had such a good chance to kill him as well.
I mean, he probably didn't find Kakyoin's body, since Jotaro only figured it out bc DIO said it out loud, PolPol knows how cruel DIO is and probably guessed that he was the only one remaining, but there could still be a little hope deep inside since he saw no corpse
and later he would spend 10 years hiding, without contacting anyone to avoid being localized, protecting and guarding a powerful arrow so it wouldn't fall on the hands of people like Dio, because Jotaro asked him to do so, Polnareff was really determined and loyal to his friends, too bad he wasn't able to make himself a family and just be happy, Polnareff was the one that deserved the most out of the crusaders, he was the only one who didn't manage to save his own precious person in life, that's just sad :/

It looks like they’re flying but they’re actually just jumping, they talked a lot while they did it in the manga so they had to compensate in the anime by kinda slowing it down

This is a great battle every time I revisit it. Agreed that Dio is super annoying, but every utterance of Za Warudo is *chef’s kiss*. Art lol
That intro switchup with Dio popping up is easily a contender for the best OP/ED change ever, even with the viewer being used to them adding extra sound effects on the Part finales. Only other one that gave me chills like that was the *No Game No Life* outro switchup (a [spoiler] happens at the very end of an episode, which immediately cuts into the entire ED changed to match leaving you stunned, it's fantastic).

Fun fact: Araki had recently attended a convention in Italy couple years ago and revealed a little cool detail about DIOs Stand The World. As many have compared The Worlds design to that of a scuba diver, Araki has stated that the reason that DIO is able to fight in stop time is because The World has oxygen tanks on its back.
See, I always assumed it was because the singer Dio has a song called "Holy Diver" hence the diving canisters... learn something new every day, I guess :)

See, the World isn't Jonathan's stand, it's actually Dio's.
Jonathan's stand was actually that Hermit Purple looking thing Dio used way back at the start of the season to spy on them using the camera trick Joseph uses. Since Jonathan was a Hamon user, his stand is identical to Joseph's.
The World is definitely Dio's stand. If you look back earlier in the part, Dio was monitoring the group (and planting the flesh buds) using a stand that looked like Hermit Purple but themed like a rose bush. Araki has confirmed in interviews that that stand is the one possessed by Jonathan's body.

Usually when villains monologue and talk to themselves so dramatically it bothers me, but DIO is the only exception. It totally fits his character.
Stardust Crusaders made Dio far more terrifying in these final eps than he was in Phantom Blood. I first watched the JoJo's OAV series from the '90s, which did the Egypt Arc then later went back and redid I think at least the latter half of the story arc. So when I started watching Phantom Blood in S1, I knew where it would get to but now how exactly they would get there.
Part 1 Episode 3 Dio remains the most terrifying and best Dio we have ever seen IMO

It may seem silly but Dio actually has to be %100 sure that he can attack without major consequences which is why it looks like he is wasting time. In his head if he is careless and tries to go kill Jotaro too quickly he could get caught in another trap like he did when Jotaro let him get close and punched his stomach in and his leg went flying off.
Dio sees Jotaro's hand move during ZA WORLDO! and immediately shows what a coward he is. Typical of a bully when they are finally challenged.

Dio and Jotaro have a simlar stand by coincidence. Jonathon's stand is a variant on hermit purple. So basically Dio has two stands.
Fun fact: Polnareff's attack, in his mind, was the last attack of the Crusaders, since he thought Jotaro was dead (the whole knife thing). So he really did a suicide charge against DIO, like per say [Spoilers for AOT]

3:50 Well according to the Stardust Crusaders fighting game from way back in the day, if you do "let Dio have his day", he winds up taking over the world and ruling it through fear and chaos forever, because he can just use The World's abilities for as long as he wants, and does so to wreak endless havoc. And that's the closest to a canon idea of what would happen if they just let Dio do what he wants.
