  • April 1982.
Footage of troops of the South African Defence Forces (SADF) embarking on a mission to hunt for guerrillas of the South West African People's Organisation (SWAPO) during the South African Border which is alternately known as the Namibian War of Independence.
    The location was Tsumeb, Namibia.
    Reuters Text from April 1982:
"In northern Namibia (South West Africa) South African troops are stepping up bush patrols in an effort to beat back the current SWAPO (South West African People's Organisation) offensive in the white farming districts. A total of 37 guerrillas have been killed since says SWAPO infiltrated from Angola just over two weeks ago. South Africa says the incursion was the eighth since 1976. This elephant became a victim of the bush war after triggering off a landmine. SWAPO is against South African rule of Namibia and has been waging a bush war for sixteen years. The official Angolan news agency reported a SWAPO statement that guerrillas pushed their attacks to the outskirts of Windhoek. The communique said that guerrillas "dominated the military situation" in the white farming area of the north and that many farmers had fled to the city. However, South Africa's Security Forces Headquarters reported on Monday (26 April) that four black nationalist guerrillas were killed by their troops near the north central town of Otavi after a SWAPO attack on a white farmstead."
