Ostashkov is a town in Tver Oblast, located on the shore of the southern part of Lake Seliger.
The original settlement has known to exist from the 14th century as a frontier post of the Moscow Principality. In the mid 18th century the settlement was transferred to the Tver governorate. During the 18th century, the town was redeveloped, like a number in these years. The new plan of Ostashkov was used as a template for other Uyezd towns of the Russian Empire...
