It's incomprehensible that logging is allowed in the old growth areas! Haven't we evolved enough as a species yet to understand they are irreplaceable? Apparently not. Great images and a classic opening sequence. You really need to put all those together one day in a highlights reel! Cheers Adam.
Just wanted to say a big thanks for joining the Pubcast Live lock in last night Adam, much appreciated. We raised £300 for the children's hospital and had some laughs along the way! Hope the snow stuck around!
In Spain, years ago, some medieval watchtowers that ran along the entire Mediterranean coast were about to disappear, due to real estate speculation, but photographic associations began to campaign with exhibitions, photographic competitions and conferences ... In that way they managed save a few. An expensive idea to recover those ancient forests ...
I agree with you. It is vital we save these old growth forests, but governments always seem to have their own agendas. Great explanations of composition and love the new camera!
Again I really enjoyed the video, sceneries and photographs. I share your love for ferns, old trees and ancient forests (unfortunately not present in The Netherlands!). Adam, you really are an artist!
I have enjoyed the way the videos have felt like you're hanging out with the viewer, very candid. I like it, like a one on one workshop. Beautiful scenery....love the old growth groves here in WA and OR...wish there were more. The gfx100 is intense. Oof. Like Ansel Adams, showing these special photos garners more love from everyone to support the magic of our natural world. Take the shot, share the shot... Thanks, Adam!
Happy new camera! Looking forward to seeing all the future videos with it. Off to a flyer with the burly tree shot. It's great you benefited from having it on loan for a while so we've all had a great preview of what is to come. Roll on 2021.
another incredible intro... very very close proximity flying there .. 400mp images... wowzers... like having the histogram as its own display .. that second growth forest looks like it has more to explore ...nice to see the new merch getting a run out too .. great Episode , gorgeous shots !!
Very interesting video. I've never seen the forests on Vancouver Island so close up. It is lovely and really naturally beautiful. Sad to hear about the logging cutting the forests down. Lovely photography with wonderful narration. It's greatly appreciated.
I like to admire your videos on my big screen. There is not a way to give a like when watching on television. So then I look up your video on TH-cam to give it a like. A little work but worth it.
watch you and Simon Baxter mostly now...really enjoy the conversation around composition with both of you, and the results in general. my gfx 100 arrives today; decided to go medium format for the depth, color science, printing large, detail in the image, portrait work and also shooting in the 16:9 format for both video and stills. take care! KM
Great Film Adam, that's some tree, I imagine you have some affection for it after such an acquaintance. Looking forward to seeing what you can achieve with the new Fuji! All the best.
Those old growth forests are beautiful . The photographs are stunning . Love the new camera . Would I like to own one . Yes please . I got a new camera body way back in march . Then we went into lockdown . I have immunity issues so I've pretty much been confined to home since then . Not quite going mad yet . We moved at the beginning of October . Got a river at the bottom of the garden so plenty of photo opportunities there . Thanks for sharing your adventures .
Thank you Adam for yet another fantastic video from the west coast of British Colombia. Above all I like to thank you for bringing up the heart wrenching topic of logging again. Unfortunately I can tell you that what you said about the politics over there is true here in Sweden as well. As we speak, our type of old growth is being logged although we do have laws to protect them. The big corporations have ways of getting around these legislations over and over again. The sad part is that up here in the far north it takes ages for a destroyed forest to grow back again. What many seams to miss is that when these old trees are gone so is the undergrowth as well, as you mentioned. The whole environment is destroyed for many hundred of years to come! Many species of flora and fauna are lost for ever! We talk a lot about the Amazon and Borneo being logged to death (which is a true disaster for sure) but at the same time we are logging the old forests in our own backyard to death too. The hypocrisy is absolutely astonishing. For shame!
Couldn't agree more. And not to be a Debbie Downer but the reality is that neither governments or the general public could really care less, out of sight out of mind.
I spotted the gfx100 as soon as you lifted the camera out the bag. That was definitely a question for you in the comments as I remembered that the previous loaner was going back...but you immediately took the wind out of my sail (LOL). So pleased you've bought one Adam. I was rather hoping Thomas Heaton had spoken to you like he said he was going to do about your 50R experience, and possibly get a 50R himself. As usual brilliant drone work.
It’s a great pity if they do destroy the old growth forest, they are just wonderful. Love your photos Adam. Hoping to be over in Canada again next summer. All the best Graham🇬🇧🇬🇧📷📸
I am happy for your attention to the old growth forests, the stills you create will hopefully be published. I could watch your drone rolls all night long-ever considered a workshop on this style of photography?
Hey Adam, great video to watch. Love always your Woodland Photography and Videos about it. Hope there will be soon a chance to get back to Canada. Cheers Jürgen
I've recently been playing with the hi res mode on my Olympus EM1 Mark 2. It outputs an 80 Meg Raw or 50 Meg Jpeg (or both). The resolution of a file that large is amazing! Looking forward to what you might get on your Fuji.
Actually had a trip planned to Vancouver Island earlier this year. Then the pandemic hit. You and Mr. Hardcastle have been schooling me on the best locations. Hopefully I'll be able to visit some time next year. Love your photography.
Adam, 2021 calendar arrived yesterday and I have to say it’s absolutely amazing. I couldn’t help but have a flick through and the images are incredible. Great work! 👊🏻
Hi Adam thanks for sharing, true old growth wildwood really lovely. Question why do you use exposure compensation and what advantage does it provide over just using or manually adjusting shutter speed / aperture and ISO
Congratulations on your new amazing camera. Thank you for documenting the old growth forests on Vancouver Island. We were there about 20 years ago and I am worried that what we saw, which was jaw dropping, will not be there when we are able to return. Amazing images.
I’m so happy that you were able to find your new camera. Watching you without a camera Figuring out the composition For the next morning was wonderful. Your respect for nature clearly shines in every video you make. Wishing you the best of luck with your new camera. My XT 4 and the 16 1.4 Will just have to do
Adam, glad to see you grabbed the new body. I've been shooting with it since last March and have enjoyed my experiences with it. Great vid too. I was wondering what type of boots you have on?
Nice video footage panning out from the trees! Great composition tips too.... but............. OMG! You put your tripod down on the ground just like my wife does - with the head down in the dirt. She watched this video too and now feels vindicated. I'll never hear the end of it! LOL!
Wow, I wish I lived on Vacouver Island because it's spectacular! However I live in Australia which is also quite spectacular. Better be happy with what we have. Congrats with the camera upgrade - and thanks for sharing the fantastic drone footage and images!
Another great video. I have used the pixel shift on my Olympus Pen F and it is great for architectural work but as soon as you need to go to longer shutter speeds it just doesn't work.I will be interested to see how technology, both in-camera and post editing catches up with this. I see it as a solution that fixed a specific problem when cameras were at the sub 20mega pixel level.
We're down to about 2% coverage for ancient woodland in the UK. It's essentially irreplaceable, biodiversity rich habit that brings mental well-being to millions of people, yet we're removing it to build railways through and houses on, and those who stand up to it are called do-gooders and treehuggers. We're in a bad place as far as the environment is concerned, these days.
I agree. In recent years here in North Devon we have lost two ancient woodlands to development. In return we now boast a Lidls, a McDonalds and a 'pizzeria' and a large housing estate the current infrastructure can't support.
Great video, Adam, love the opening drone shots. They add a lot in terms of understanding what the forest is like and give a sense of being there. Have fun with the new camera!
Beautiful impressions - stills and video. Surely a wonderful area to be preserved. I also wonder who was lucky enough to inherit your Fujifilm 50r now that you have gone max GFX 100.
Awesome images mate and lovely drone footage. I was so lucky to be able to visit some of these old-growth forests with you last year and hope it's not too long before I can get back to see more before they are all gone😞. Thanks, mate 😀👍✌
Congrats Adam on your gfx 100!! stunning images n video !!! i downloaded the firmware about a week ago havent used it yet ,,it will be good for macro ,,studio n structures n some landscape or trees i must say .anyways stay safe Enjoy your camera n GOD BLESS !!!!!!
Carry a handle held chain saw with you. It’s just a small bit of chain with fabric handles from Amazon. It would allow you to cut away any deadwood and shift it out the way if you ever need to, like in the last shot.
I'm thinking the pixel shifting Fuji does may be similar to what Olympus does with some of their camera bodies. You may want to check out Robin Wong's cogent explanation of pixel shifting implementation and it's applications. Frankly, 100 mega-pixels is pretty awesome! I hope you have a fast computer to handle those giant files. Happy Sunday from California! By the way, your B-roll drone footage is getting really good.
Thanks for posting Adam , I was really impressed with the video while you were setting up your shots 13:40 even at 12k it looked so gorgeous . One question regarding your new friend. Does 100mp pose problems if you wanted to clone say that branch out in PS ? It seem that the resolution you achieve any "pixel moving" would show up. Just curious have a great week.
Hello Mr Gibbs. I was thinking on making a small project of a park in central Saanich were there are large trees and typical west coast lighting conditions. It needs to be in winter to capture the best of the moss growing on trees. My question to you is, do you worry about the quality of light or is it more of a quantity of light a bigger concern when shooting under a dense tree canopy? How do you avoid the picture turning flat colours when shooting under winter light conditions?
Excellent shots. I thought that the waterfall shot would have been improved by raising the camera, but I am sure that if that were possible that you would have done that. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and prospective!
Beautiful video as always. And an official congrats on the Fuji 100. Have to admit, I have a bit of camera envy. Of course I have no need for such pretty things. No one needs to see 100 mega pixel crap photos. lol But I do like that play-back button on the right side of the camera. A bit nit-picky eh? lol Anyway, thanks for all the work you put into your videos. Love the drone footage. 👍

There are far to few Old Growth forest areas in general, and where I live on the Ma. - RI. border it is a 2 hour drive to the nearest location. Even at that, we don't have the very large species as found on in other climates. Luck has it that most of them are along the Appalachian trail and therefore relatively safe and accessible. The saying goes that you don't miss what you don't have.... So, Fuji also understands.

Hi Jamie, my pleasure wish I could have joined in earlier. It was great to have a bit of a gab with some familiar faces.
True, but money talks unfortunately.
Wow that creek shot at 20 mins Mr G, pulls you right in to the forest, can almost smell it.
Thank you for highlighting the plight of old growth forests 🌳
Man that picture with the waterfall is absolutely superb.
Thanks for the gentle reminder about old growth preservation.
Thanks for another great video !!! The forests there are REALLY beautiful, like a magic place ...
11:36 that looks incredible! Such a good composition!

incredible drone footage Adam wow - so many places to explore on Vancouver island, thank you .
Anyone: Who's the best drone pilot in landscape photography?
Me: Adam Gibbs!
You are, however, lucky to live in such a place!
I especially like how he runs the video backwards to make it look like he is flying backwards. Excellent effect. Love Uncle Grumpy.
Without a doubt👍🏻
the back motion is very cool, works great when it is landscape.
actually I fly the drone backwards, I like to live dangerously
another incredible intro... very very close proximity flying there .. 400mp images... wowzers... like having the histogram as its own display .. that second growth forest looks like it has more to explore ...nice to see the new merch getting a run out too .. great Episode , gorgeous shots !!

Amazing Adam, thank you for sharing.
You are amazing! I do greatly enjoy all your videos.
Such nice footage! Cheers.
Fantastic, Adam! Great insight into your amazing work. Excellent vid, thank you.
Great as always buddy
thanks, man!
Still think you should make a video compilation of your drone intros and their music - I find them quite mesmerising!
Another great video
I did! wasn't that popular th-cam.com/video/EnS4mqGEJo4/w-d-xo.html

Beautiful images and thank you for spreading a little awareness about these beautiful forests! Loved the intro to this video!

Another good-one from the Grand Master.
Yeah... Adams intro’s are back! Not sure why, but firns can make the image. Beautifull work with the Douglas trees.
gorgeous

Ps, GFX50 going cheap? 😂😂😂 also, my Xmas present of a Nikon Z7 and a certain book 📖 has me very excited 👍

Really enjoyed the small creek image, spotted the white rock but it didn't seem too obtrusive in the final image. Cheers

Wow I was just in Port Renfrew/Juan de Fuca yesterday! I'll have to go back and check out Avatar Grove and area. I love the stream shot.
Awesome images mate and lovely drone footage. I was so lucky to be able to visit some of these old-growth forests with you last year and hope it's not too long before I can get back to see more before they are all gone😞. Thanks, mate 😀👍✌

living in marsh lands with almost no trees i like your videos from that kind of forest.
congratulations to the GFX!
Congratulations on your new camera. It seems to me it was designed. for thoughtful, highly skilled artists like you. 👍
Beautiful location, nice images Adam, thanks for sharing.....
My pleasure!
Nice raincoat
Adam, your intros are the most cinematic. Great work! Oh, your photography ain't that bad either. :-)
I appreciate that!
When it is safe and Canada allows us, I'm booking you!!!!! Again, great job.
Of all creatures on this planet, the human creature is the most destructive.
Covid is to us what we are to this planet...
Fabulous images once again Adam , really like the b&w pines
I've started to grow my hair long!.
Carry a handle held chain saw with you. It’s just a small bit of chain with fabric handles from Amazon. It would allow you to cut away any deadwood and shift it out the way if you ever need to, like in the last shot.
That first area was a broken ankle waiting to happen. Nice walkthrough, as usual. Rock on!
Thoroughly enjoyed this Adam just what I needed 👍😁
Glad to hear it!

Hello Mr Gibbs. I was thinking on making a small project of a park in central Saanich were there are large trees and typical west coast lighting conditions. I like your video very much! Good luck! Hi from Russia!
Great shots a always mate, Paul T did say you have but the bullet. Got to love a bit of retail therapy 🤑
Excellent shots. I thought that the waterfall shot would have been improved by raising the camera, but I am sure that if that were possible that you would have done that. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and prospective!
A fitting tool for a master craftsman. I thought you may be pulling the trigger on the 100MPs. Now Santa...
Brilliant and lush images. Also, nice wheels; do you and Thomas Heaton shop at the same used car lot?
No but we share notes
always a great watch :)
Beautiful video as always. And an official congrats on the Fuji 100. Have to admit, I have a bit of camera envy. Of course I have no need for such pretty things. Nothing like creating camera envy ;-)
@@QuietLightPhoto I knew it was for more than epic detail in your images. You had an ulterior motive! haahaa
So nice “to be back”. Just heard about Mt. Cain ! Shoud be a cool place to ski !
Yeah never been, it's quite far north for us. Mt. Washington is closer, great snow there
Thanks for another great video Adam. Is it really still that green there?
I was born mid-Island and live in Vancouver now. Yes. It’s that green. And wet.
Yes it is! at least until or if it snows
It's a shame about the old growth forests. :(
But congrats on the GFX 100! I've just had a similar situation with a 'can't be refused' deal on a used D850 the only thing I didn't get with it was an XQD card and the L-component for the RRS plate that came on it.
We've visited Vancouver Island a few times to see friends who live in Qualicum Beach, but haven't yet had a chance to visit any of the 'old growth' areas. Hopefully at some point in the future this can be remedied.
I would love to see how you fly your drone in the opening scene. Do you fly forward and then reverse the video? Is collision avoidance turned off? What drone do you use? Are you flying slower and then speed up the video in post? You seem to have mastered the "close quarters" drone flying better than anyone I know of. One or more sessions on your approach to flying drones and capturing video would be valued VERY MUCH!
