    Maintenance videos are my fav! Since no repot is ever the same, seems like there is always something interesting to be learned! 🙂

    Paphiopedilum sukhakulii is an orchid from Thailand, the name honors it's discoverer Prasong Sukhakul (ประสงค์ สุขะกูล), the orchid name pronounced Sook-khà-kul-ii. In Thailand is also called Pik Malaeng Po, which means dragonfly wings.

    I love watching your repotting videos. They're probably my favorite videos in all the time I have followed you. They are not only informative, but there is something relaxing about watching repotting, there's also a satisfying feeling to see the orchid happy with new potting medium. Thank you for your great videos. 💖

    I was scared the first couple of times I repotted my paphs - they seemed to have hardly any roots! But I realised after a few times that they seem to survive and flourish just fine with only 2 or 3 large main roots! Go figure, it's such a contrast compared to my cymbidium and dendrobiums which seem to outgrow their pots so quickly and produce a ton of roots.

    Cinder (a form of lava) and wood chips absolutely work the best for paps here in Hawaii. Wood & cinder bought in bulk are inexpensive here. Sphagman moss is useful too (you use it a lot, Dani) but expensive and hard to find on the islands. I use it sparingly or save it for'sick or stressed orchids. I am also experimenting with native moss since its a renewable resource and is found in wild places here as well as in backyards. Despite all of the differences between your environment and mine, your medium choices & mine, many tips you offer are absolutely suitable to my orchids too.

    This video came right on time. One year ago I bought this Paph and hadn't repotted it so far, but I've been thinking that I need to do it for some time now. The reason being that some of the roots were sticking out of the potting mix. I've been postponing it, but seeing this video made me go and do it right away. Turns out the pot isn't too small, it's just the right size. In fact the roots weren't even that long. For some reason the orchid was just sitting somewhat high up. So I now pushed it down. Fortunately I see some new small root nubs coming. The problem is I realized that the way the roots are growing is kind of high up. I mean I literally have to cover lower part of some leaves under soil to get the roots to grow under the soil, or potting mix. Hmmm, tricky one. I'm thinking of laying a layer of spaghnum moss on top too just so that it will cover all the root nubs.

    Thanks Danni. That was enjoyable. I am trying the same sort of mix with my Paph. She is new and little and got knocked over my my hubby and lost 2 lower leaves afterwards, but hopefully it will be ok. It is tiny still so probably a couple of years before I enjoy a bloom. But the leaves are so cool!

    It is always nice to watch repottings. I am interested in watching for all types of orchids. Especially for the paphs I find it hard to find the line between place them too high or too low in the medium....

    So if anyone could answer this question for me it would be so great, I have a dendrobium caesar warawan its 10 years old but its extremely root bound. What should I do? I would like to mount it but I've heard that mounting is more for keikis so repotting would suffice. I just need advice. Thank you

    Instead of pulling off a dead leaf, can we cut it & use the cinnamon. I cut a dying leaf about 2 inches from the stem, but didn't know about the cinnamon secret, lol. But thankfully it's ok, except it's taking so long to grow a new spike or two, it's last bloom was last summer, completely missing her winter blooms. Did I do that? LOL

    Do orchids need to be pollinated to re-bloom? Thank you Dear

    • @billymacaraeg7761
      @billymacaraeg7761 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      for me no, if you pollinate the orchid flower, it will spend it's energy to the seed pod and not on the next blooms or growths. just care for the orchid well and it will rebloom depends on the type of orchid and care needs.

    • @billymacaraeg7761
      @billymacaraeg7761 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      hi, for me keeping the environment around the orchid warm and good air flow is one way or use fungicides to protect the orchid fron fungus attack especially on rainy days or shelter the orchid if you experience days of rain and keep the crowns of you orchid dry in high humid season because there is not much air movement. but if the orchid is well established in a way that it sustains itself, like it's attachd to a tree, then no need to do these steps.
