I have one of these!!! And I LOVE it!!! I pulled a spring out of an ink pen on my desk, fashioned it to match the one from this awesome key.. swapped them.. and it’s perfect now!!! (Original spring was a bit too tight for me).
I have lots of “favorite “ keys. J37,J38, Begali Blade straight keys snd bugs, Begali Intrepid, Vibroplex President, Speed-X. I change them in my rotation. I might try one for giggles.
I saw that two weeks ago and thought it looked good for the price, so I got it. Def happy so far. I'm 95% an iambic keyer but needed one for SSKC. It's solid.
Yeah. I have a green one. Good overall. I wouldn't mind being able to go lower on the spring force, but even if you take the adjusting screw all the way out, there's a little more spring force than I want. (I guess that I could replace, crush, or cut the spring, but it's good enough as is.) I also wouldn't mind if the base extended a little further out from under the knob. The knob is within the base outline, but my finger force isn't always straight down, so sometimes the back will lift (especially with the stronger than desired spring). But a fine key that will see lots of use here (at least until I figure out how to get in and service the contacts in my Navy Flameproof). No cat. Sigh.
The "Big John" key is the same way. For some reason, the Chinese just don't like their key action to be soft. And it does fatigue you after a bit. I've been looking for a softer replacement spring for the "Big John" key, but haven't found one yet... 73 DE W8LV BILL
@@w8lvradio Yeah. The spring form factor will be hard to match. It's not like the spring is what grounds the arm, and thus the arm side of the contact: There's a wire hidden under the pivot bar. There might be a suitable thickness of foam.
I like this, and cw is definitely a goal of mine. I have a keyer rhat goes side to side someone gifted me, which im happy i have for my ft-817 but i wanna learn with a straight key first.
Dammit, Mike! I’m a Begali crew but this looks really cool. And if there really is an iambic, well, the hoarders episode just went off the rails. Damn you indeed ;-) 73 de W8IJN
@@nvrumi I just got the iambic set. Ain't bad. Very quality machine work, solid mechanism. A bit wide paddle spacing but otherwise a very serviceable & useable key. And the mag mount bit sticks it to the desk reaaaaall good.
Yep. I sprung for one of those too. Damn nice key. The mechanism/construction is a copy of the Begali Pearl, 'though with the wider paddle spacing & a different magnetic return system. Not a bad key & certainly rugged looking enough. Wish the paddle spacing was a tad closer but at least it snaps to the desk tight ;-) 73 de W8IJN
I’m an old guy and have absolutely no use for one of these things. But it looks so nice that I could bide my time playing with it and who knows maybe I could call in some UFO’s with it.
Looks good for the price. Nice and rugged for portable use. Only thing I might miss is some holes on the base to allow mounting on larger base or attaching leg straps (nearly all straight keys traditionally have mounting holes). I suppose you could maybe drill some if you wanted. Overall, looks a lot nicer than some of the small straight keys that cost more. The jack socket on the key might be useful as you could easily swap the short lead for a longer one if you wanted.
That way you can plug it into a jack that can also take a paddle, and it won’t short the ring to the sleeve, sending nonstop dahs until you unplug it or change the settings to straight key
Hello, I‘m interested to use this for a workshop to learn the basics. Is it possible to attach the cable e.g. to a laptop and still get the sound/beeping of the device. Or must it be a real radio? Thank you so much in advance for your help
Well you talked me into buying something else and I don't know cw. I do love my rig expert stick pro you helped me pick out at Dayton. Talk to you later I have to go learn cw now!
And remember, kids, "Putikeeg" spelled backwards is "Geekitup"
🤔 😯 😜 🤗 Cool!
Its also spelled in "Code"!

I just ordered one from Aliexpress. I'm going to learn CW, so this is my first key. Thank you for the review. Have a great week.
Bought a blue one in January. Paid $38 for it. It works great. Welcome to the club.
this is the best Little Morse code key that I have ever held in my two hands. Granted, I haven't had that many, but this is awesome!
I have it in blue. Love mine too. Also changed the spring to a lighter one.

I am absolutely loving this thing! Thank you for recommending it!
I got a brand new pair of roller-skates, you got a brand new key....
Melanie.
Thanks for the info, ordered one before the video finished.
I need a more comfortable straight key especially for portable ops, thanks for the heads up on this 🙂

I agree. I just got one today and found that the spring is too strong for the application. It needs to modified or replaced.
If you find a proper replacement spring for Chinese keys, please share, and I will do likewise, Thanks! 73 DE W8LV BILL
Thanks Mike! Getting one for my wife. KD9UQE Craig

I received one on Tuesday. Very nice and solid unit. Wish I could say the same for my cadence.
Great video! Purchased one with your link. Many Thanks.

I was just thinking the same thing! I don't *NEED* another key, but..... ooohhhh, a sparkly!

I'm am looking forward to this video!
I've yet to find anything that beats the feel of my J-37 with a Navy knob; although, my WT-8AMP with Navy knob comes close.
YES! Navy knob!
I would think aluminum being light, without attaching the key to a base, it might walk around ?

I don't even do morse code.... And I want one! It looks to damn sweet!
Throw that & a morse code list, all in the SHTF box!
A PUTIKEEG????? For $35???? NO WAY!!!! Pretty cool looking. Gives me a 50s vibe. Now what color should I get? 73!
All of them... ;)
I just got one in green from Amazon. Going to hook up to my G90 right now.

Nice. I keep wondering why the plugs and cables provided with a straight key are always stereo versions?
That way you can plug it into a jack that can also take a paddle, and it won’t short the ring to the sleeve, sending nonstop dahs until you unplug it or change the settings to straight key
I'll be looking for you, Mikey, on the Straight Key Century Club Sked page!
I got their paddle and larger straight key. Both are decent, but the contacts on the paddle are a soft metal and wear out quick.
Great key! Going to get some more to give out.
I just ordered one, and they must be back ordered. May 19th.
Damn you're a bad influence! This key feels great and feels much higher quality than I expected.
I tawt I saw a putikeeg ?? Looks solid wonder if it’s available in the 🇬🇧?
Amazon have it for near twice the price. Rip off Britain 🙁
Could I plug this into a speaker and practise through that without first getting a radio?

You would need to connect it to an oscillator or radio to hear anything
Wow so cool perfect for the mobile operating.
I'm still amazed at this key months after posting this video. I was just talking about this to a CW op friend of mine the other day.
I just checked (08-27-23) This deal is GONE!
They changed keyers and the price went up!
Mike, can you add the other colors to you amazon store? I'd like to get the blue one, but when I choose it I think it drops you commission off.
It shouldn’t matter so long as you get to Amazon from my like I’ll get credit. Thank you.
Mine arrived yesterday. Ordered August 15th. Also ordered flat top knob for this keyer ($6.99). 73's KZ5USA
when i get mine, im going to polish my knob : )
lol, you call that tight action?
Well you talked me into buying something else and I don't know cw. I do love my rig expert stick pro you helped me pick out at Dayton. Talk to you later I have to go learn cw now!
I have a green one. I love it!!!
If you speak Spanish, you will find the name very funny: puti.... hahahaha
My Wife got me one for Christmas 2023. I love it. Very solid, smooth action. N8JTV
Wow, very nice 👍
Looks like a winner
This is on a flash sale right now. $31.99!
I love mine.
You shake it about how are we supposed to get an eyeball
OK you sold me, placed order TU N7KO 72'
The "knobby thing" is called a "knob".
Put it on the air!..wonder if theres an iambic version...
There is and again, all metal/ Around $83.00. I ordered both
I'm lazy. I like dual paddle keys in my decrepidness. 😊
They make one of those, too!
thank you
LMBO a pute key. great vid ty
I found it very uncomfortable.
Glad I was not the only one. I think I will try remove the spring and pop a less springy one in. I'm not a fan of the key so far
I remember back in 67, in Danang! I got me some Putikeeg, and it was skinny and tight! Beeped all night! ❤
👍73s QRO
$35 for this is cheap? Good joke. That thing is hardly worth a tenth that. Machined? I guarantee you this is cast on a good day.
What’s wrong with you
So beautiful. 73
Chinese spy key?
Please don't wear metallic jewelry around electronics.
Sorry, it is just a key/switch don't be that hyped :) (2a3 dollar)
