That was a tough choice. I mean the LXME and LXK2 clearly stood out as my favorites from the get-go, with LXKE being third for sure. But which one was my favorite wasn't an easy call. I think maybe the LXK2 in the end though
I agree, about the little guy sounding bigger than he is. I already bought one! I think the video one sounds the same. I was looking for a carbon fiber parlor guitar (Should be indestructible!) but, they are still priced too high for me. This little guy I bought is a good fit for me. I’m not very big, but I have a lower voice. We make a great pair!
The laminate tops sound like the spruce tops with blankets on top of them. Some might find them warmer but i find them dull or lacking something. Or more like nylon strung acoustics or something. Think I would go for the LX1E
My favorite was the LX1KE. It had an equal bit of warmth and brightness. My least favorite was the Ed Sheeran model. It was too bright and tinny. Thanks for the demo!
Very useful video! I am considering getting a Little Martin, and this really helped. I didn't like the Ed Sheeran model (too tinny and treble), and the LX1 sounded very similar to it. The LX1 sounded tinnier and brighter, and I consistently liked the LX1KE and the LXME. Thanks so much for the comparison.
I really like koa, but I really never use picks and mostly play fingerstyle and strum with my hands so I feel like for that style, its kinda hard to get the treble to come out as much. I think for playing with your hands, I would go with the LX1.
I'm shocked about the differences in sound. I didn't think that even the hpl top guitars would have a difference. So I'm not sure if that's a testament to the possible of tonal quality that HPL could have, my headphones, or an inconsistency in manufacturing. This video destroyed everything I thought I knew about HPL.
Really surprising how much thinner the tone on the laminate tops is. It sounds almost like it's being played behind a blanket compared to the solid tops.
I like the solid spruce top models LX1 and Ed Sheeran model. The HPL tops are dull sounding. I prefer the LX1 HPL Mahogany back to the HPL Kia back as well. The clarity of the spruce top is awesome when amplified.
Wow. I was really disappointed in the Koa sounds especially the all Koa one. I was surprised how different the Sheeran model sounded from the LX1. On that showing, I preferred the sound of the Sheeran by far however I can't see why they difference and I'm wondering it its' the strings. Anyway, at my time of life I wouldn't be all that delighted to sport a divide logo on my guitar! I'm possibly going to buy an LXE1
Okay, so I've read a lot of the comments and know which sound I prefer but I have a question: As these Little Martins are often for travel/campfires/knocking around, is the HPL more durable? Or is the solid spruce top just as durable to temperature/humidity changes? I love my big boy Martin, but really don't want to be taking it out and about too much. Thanks!
For me important thing: ist the body of all of it the same? Or is one a little bit smaller or another bigger? I have had testet the Lx1 an it fits really good to me...one of thousand i tested...so...the lxk2 sounds for me like: buy menin this second, immediately, because i'm finally the best😊😊😊😊
I play fingerstyle and sing over it. I need less bass to pull it off. For me, the LX1 or ed sheeran one would work best. If I was a strummer who didnt sing, I would go with the LXK2 or the LXME.
One of the biggest drawbacks of high pressure laminate countertops is that they cannot be used in extreme environments. That means they have a low resistance to bacteria, chemicals and corrosion. So favorites are: LX ME LX1
That’s fine if you want to lug an instrument of that size around when traveling, but when space is a consideration those little Martins are about as good as you can get.
1:07 LXME
1:17 LX1
1:28 LXK2
1:37 LX1E Ed Sheeran Divide
1:48 LX1KE
Thanks
Excellent video with very objective comparisons--thank you! The real spruce tops sounds more clear and less muffled
That was a tough choice. I mean the LXME and LXK2 clearly stood out as my favorites from the get-go, with LXKE being third for sure. But which one was my favorite wasn't an easy call. I think maybe the LXK2 in the end though
John Noir Smith I agree! LXK2 is just warmer to me. Just purchased one. The others sounded too tinny
nothing's really good except bt2 and lx1e
The koa laminate came in third surprise.
love the koa LXK2 just got it 3 new songs written in 2 days love it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
lxk2 sounds the best to me! the warmth makes it sound like a much bigger guitar.
That was my impression as well.
Instablaster.
See I was between the LXME and the LXK2 for those reasons, but the LXME sounds better for some reason

I agree, I have been leaning towards the E version but the none e versions had much better tone.
Thank for the review bro! I stay with the LXME and LX1KE
The laminate tops sound like the spruce tops with blankets on top of them. Some might find them warmer but i find them dull or lacking something. Or more like nylon strung acoustics or something. Think I would go for the LX1E
100% agree.
My favorite was the LX1KE. It had an equal bit of warmth and brightness. My least favorite was the Ed Sheeran model. It was too bright and tinny. Thanks for the demo!
To bad they are only sold in the uk of course.. it’s always the one I want I can’t have
@@LaPriest I had the chance to get one but I didn’t realise they were limited edition, and got a drum kit instead 😂🤦♂️
nothing's really good except bt2 and lx1e
Love this. Shows how much the choice of woods - even on affordable HPL guitars - affects the tone.
Best guitar comparison ever. Thank you.
I love the sound of the HPL tops tonally, but there seems to be greater dynamic variation in the solid tops
LX1 IS SOUNDS FANTASTIC THANK YOU !
LXK2 me thinks - thanks for showing the comparisons

The best review I have ever seen. Thank you

Excellent review!
Thanks
Bobbby
Love the lxk2 great video and sound
Love the boxy sound from the lxme
Excellent. Le type joue point barre et on peut comparer sur différentes approches. Thanks
I love the color of the Martin LXK2 Koa more. But I love the tone of the LX1 model but the color is awesome too. So my favorite is the LX1 model
I know this post is old but still I totally agree.
I really enjoyed watching this review!😊
Well done video demonstration! Best I have seen. I really prefer the sound of the Martin LX1.
Cheers
LXME sounds a bit exclusive for me, i bought one and pretty satisfied with.
The LXME and LXK2 for me! It sounds warm...
Just got the LXK2 and love it!
Just bought the LX1, I love it! Great vid, thanks.
Bought LX1e, love it. Bright sound, not muted like koa laminate
Think that's how I'm going for my hotel guitar
Close your eyes and pick one.. They're all amazing..
That was extremely helpful! Thank you.
Thanks for doing this comparison!!!!
Really surprising how much thinner the tone on the laminate tops is. It sounds almost like it's being played behind a blanket compared to the solid tops.
@Enoch Pedro wut lmao. Completely irrelevant but anyways, Chile.
It’s like you heard the opposite of what’s in the video.
Great comparison video, thank you!
that's a very useful video, thanks a lot!
I’m Koa x 2 all the way !
I like the solid spruce top models LX1 and Ed Sheeran model. The HPL tops are dull sounding. I prefer the LX1 HPL Mahogany back to the HPL Kia back as well. The clarity of the spruce top is awesome when amplified.

Excellent . Merci beaucoup
LX1KE for me. Clean warm tone.
really helpful thank you
LXME sounds like the most balanced, imo. Just the right warm sound & not too bright sounding. LX1KE comes 2nd for me.
My favourite is the Ed Sheeran signature guitar 🎸
Martin LX1KE 😍
LX1 ❤️
I like LX1KE the most.
I own a LX1 with Elixier 80/20 (my fav. Strings), but I think I need a LX K2 too. ;-)
I always like martin lx1
What is the name of the first riff you played just bought the KOA and wanna see about learning it.
Do these sound better than the baby Taylor’s when plugged in?
This original lx1 was the best!
Great ! thank you !
Hernandez Michael Anderson Charles Garcia Paul
Like the sound of the lxk1 sounds a little bit. More brighter
The LXME sounds like a full sized guitar. It was not too bright, and it sounds smoother, not tiny. It sounded higher quality than the other to me.
In this video ..I prefer lxme and lx1 these are the best sound
Okay, so I've read a lot of the comments and know which sound I prefer but I have a question: As these Little Martins are often for travel/campfires/knocking around, is the HPL more durable? Or is the solid spruce top just as durable to temperature/humidity changes? I love my big boy Martin, but really don't want to be taking it out and about too much. Thanks!
I like bright, so LX1 (Actually I bought the LXE1) is my choice.
I know I'm supposed to like the solid tops, but they sound pretty thin to me; at-least with this recording setup.
What are your thoughts on Martin LX1RE ?
I would be very much interested too.
I wIsh they'll come up with little martin streetmaster (hpl or solid wood)
How do these stack up against Martins Jnr series?
was only sheeran's do in stereo?
The solid top versions had so much more
LX1 all the way, nuff said 🤌🏻
LXK2 for me 👍🍻
How does it sounds if lx Hemp?
Lxk2 sounds more luxurious!
I play fingerstyle and sing over it. I need less bass to pull it off. For me, the LX1 or ed sheeran one would work best.
If I was a strummer who didnt sing, I would go with the LXK2 or the LXME.
Do you guys send to Brazil?
Will the sound quality of HPL top last?
acording to Martin - they will last but they will also never change- unlike the solid tops which will get warmer over time.
LXME & LX1KE
LX1 and LX1KE
The Lx1 broo
The lx1 sounds so ed sheeran😂
HPL top ones sounds more balanced
nothing's really good except bt2 and lx1e
Well, a martin is a martin
i like the hpl top better. 🤷🏻♂️
LXME AND LX1KE has the most great sound but LX1KE looks better.
LX1 is close to Ed's.
Winner lxme?
One of the biggest drawbacks of high pressure laminate countertops is that they cannot be used in extreme environments. That means they have a low resistance to bacteria, chemicals and corrosion. So favorites are:
LX ME
LX1
LX1KE AND LXME
lk1 was so good, but all them sounds nice
To me the laminate tops sound dull and boxy compared to the spruce
ed sheeran lx1e sounds closer to all wood guitar construction..
LX1 for me..
Lx1 sounds a little bit brighter
I think these lil guys are more for finger picking than strumming.
lx1 guitar all sides size, inches,,feet,, plz tell me
Conclusion: buy a bt2 !
If you like koa I would go with the Taylor Gs mini because the Martin sounds very underwhelming
the LXME sounds like a regular guitar and the others sound like toys...
Ed sheeran divide was the worst.
The Ed Sheehan martins are some of the worst playing and sounding guitars I’ve ever played.
The all plastic one, with the Koa picture on it, sounds like a strung up bucket of sh@t.
They are all absolutely crap. Gibson j200 now that's what great sound is.
That’s fine if you want to lug an instrument of that size around when traveling, but when space is a consideration those little Martins are about as good as you can get.
so you are comparing a $400 to a $4000 guitar, hmmm sounds fair
Gibson j200 is not a travel guitar. Why don't you compare the Gibson j200 with a full size Martin?
Yeah, I should also maybe pack John Mayer along because he is a much better player.
