Not even 10,000 fans were in the stands in San Diego on June 12th, 1970 for that evening’s doubleheader between the San Diego Padres and the Pittsburgh Pirates. Dock Ellis, the Pirates’ starting pitcher for the first game, was in the bullpen warming up. Something was off with Dock that night. He had only arrived to the stadium at 4:30 pm, a mere hour and half before the 6:05 pm start time. When he did get there, he had trouble locating his locker. In addition, he seemed very confused about what day of the week it was.

When I was “everybody’s best friend” in the 70’s/80’s selling acid here in Memphis I once tripped for 27 days straight. Couldn’t help but notice how unreal reality was when I stopped. Course I was working at a record shop so no worries about endangering any of my co-workers by doing that.
As someone who grew up in the Midwest..... taking psychedelics and standing in a sunny field was the only good thing to do! ;)

That's not completely accurate. There have been multiple times in MLB history where two games have been played on the same day but they weren't Doubleheaders. A doubleheader in Baseball is when you buy one ticket for two planned back to back games.

a traditional double header the fans get to see both games with the same ticket with about a 45 minute break between games. more recently MLB has gone to the "Day/Night" double header where each game has a seperate ticket. the first game starts around noon, the second game starts around 7pm with 2 to 3 hours between games. they really don't put double headers into the schedule ahead of time anymore, they just do it to make up for rain outs.
@@TA_Plus_Hemi nowadays what you described is usually referred to as a single admission doubleheader and is rather rare these days. Now they usually empty the stadium after the first game, charge a separate admission, and call it a "day-night doubleheader".

Simon's a surprisingly good comedian.
1. Doubleheader: Playing two baseball games in one day, against the same opponent (which is uncommon and usually reserved for making up prior games that had been postponed; ie, rained out previously)
2. Bullpen: The area where the relief pitchers stay during the game, who are available for use in the game as relief pitchers (as compared to other starting pitchers, who would be in the dugout, not fully dressed in theproper uniform, and not available for play as it is not their turn in the starting rotation, watching the game with the rest of the team). There are usually two pitcher's mounds and the accompanying home plates, to be used by the relief pitchers to warm up, prior to entering the game in relief.

@@stefanschleps8758 Hello, my Swiss Bro. Three Rivers was the stadium in Pittsburgh from 1970(the year that I was born) until 2000. It's been torn down. The Pirates play in PNC Park now and the Steelers play in Hines Field. Three Rivers Stadium was home field for both teams . The Grateful Dead played there in 1990. Other bands that preformed there include Black Sabbath (1972), Alice Cooper (1972), Stevie Wonder, BB King , Ray Charles (1973), Led Zeppelin (1973),Pink Floyd (1975), ZZTop/Aerosmith (1976),The Who (1989), Rolling Stones (1989), and a butt load of other big acts. I got to see many Pirates games there as a boy. It was a neat Coliseum style stadium.

But I went through the process of my grandmother and my father, and it was very relaxing. The clouds at the beach we're connecting like imaginex (those toys you can link together), my sheep was a little bit more bushy (my tat). Rachel asked me why my lip was quivering (I was cold), and that stopped all the attention and pinned it on myself, and I told her 'don't talk about my face right now' lol. We were making fun of how Travis Scott is in fortnite and when I had to go pee at the public bathroom at the beach, it felt like I was pouring myself into the urinal and I was staring at my hand while I was peeing. I saw the Olmec from Legends of the hidden Temple on the back of my hand 😂😂 and I freaked out because I was staring at my hand and there were other people in the bathroom. But I couldn't stop staring at my hand

LSD is an amazing experience that opens the mind to new states of consciousness and teaches a person about their own brain and how mallaeble their own perception of the world can be.
But it does this all at once and can be overwhelming to the point that it may take some peoples years to understand what they just saw.
People with calmer, happier lives tend to turn badly when exposed to psychedelics of any kind. They don't want to find different places.

Double Header is Baseball slang for back to back games the first game usually a Day game then a small intermission and then the second game will began usually a night game

Simon a Double Header refers to two games done by the same two teams with a short brake between. A Bull Pen is where the pitcher warms up. A bean ball, being beaned etc refers to a player being hit in the head by a pitch or throw.
This feels like a Business Blaze without the memes.

My friends used to have acid games during high school basketball. They always won those games but they shot streaky and half the audience knew. I remember a book I once read called A Primer of Drug Interaction, or, Primer: A Book on Drug Interaction... something like that.
Anyway, it was a great book, about half of it was nothing but facts, toxicity level, first known use/discovery/synthesis, talked about ALL sorts of drugs, prescription and street drugs, ...all very informational but at the same time very interesting. The other half included stories about first know uses and the such.
I remember one where a scientist wanted to know how much LSD was "enough". He proceeded to take LSD in greater doses and then write his experiences down.
Very interesting stuff. I wish I still had it. Let some friend borrow it, then it got "stolen". (Yes he was an addict, but so was I at the time, which is how I first came across the book, ...because I stole it!)
After noticing the effects from handling the lsd, the next day Mr Hoffman prepared a solution and drank it just before leaving for home on a bicycle as it was wartime rationing and essential had the first "acid trip",while riding his bicycle. That's why 4 19 is bicycle day, it's the anniversary.

the 70's and early 80's were a crazy time in baseball. there was this woman named Morgana the Kissing Bandit who would run out on the field in the middle of games and try to kiss the players. sometimes she would be successful, sometimes the player would run away from her but every time she would end up getting arrested. Once the Cleveland Indians decided to have a 10 cent beer night promotion. It did not end well. the fans ended up rioting. Once the Chicago White Sox decided to have a "Disco Demolition" promotion. Also did not end well. the fans ended up rioting.

Imagine being his catcher. How do you catch a man pitching literal fireballs in his mind? He's not gonna understand any of your signs, and you'll have no idea what he's gonna throw. Nevermind the fact that you'd have to deal with wild pitches. That catcher is amost as responsible for this no-hitter as Doc.

You have never tripping have you? It's not like it's portrayed in movies. I have had to drive to emergency rooms. Talk to the police. Talk to parents. Don't know how many times I have ended up throwing around a frisbee. Unless you eat a lot, and I mean a lot, you retain all your motor functions and remain completely lucid. I'm sure he had no trouble reading the catchers signs and then throwing the correct pitch. This story seems crazy to the uninitiated. Doesn't seem strange to me at all. I can totally see someone who's tripping getting in a grove and playing a great game.

From everything I know from people who have tried acid, you'd have to take a massive, massive dose for anything like he's describing to start happening. And even then it's not guaranteed, LSD doesn't really cause open eye hallucinations. But it does remove all filters from all information, meaning he would have been very enhanced while up on the pitcher's mound. And let's not forget the amphetamines he took, those are also significantly performance-enhancing. If he had been on just one or the other he might not have done so well, too, so maybe it was the combination. Some people will take LSD with ecstasy, and they report that it's like the two are fighting each other but in pleasurable beneficial ways to you.
For any truly experienced LSD user, the fact you can be better at something whilst on acid is not surprising. It's a weird drug, dosing and tolerance are important, the line between 'I didn't really feel it' and the torus is a very broad, very layered and very nuanced one. With the perfect amount of LSD you are hyperconscious and time is a joke so you can act before it happens.
I wish they could make a movie out of this, it would be one of the few times I would actually be interested in this (insert derogatory adjective here) game
