Interesting tutorial. One thing I would say is that you need to be careful of where in the chain you put the correction LUT. I'm less familiar with how the effects layers work in FCP these days, but generally you want the correction LUT at the end of the chain. If you perform the colour corrections after the LUT, then you are working with reduced data. So, for example, if you have a blown out sky after the LUT is applied, that sky is pretty much baked in if you do corrections after the LUT in the colour correction chain. However, if you have the colour correction processed before the LUT, you have access to the full log data. This is particularly important if people use DaVinci Resolve. Lastly, you don't have to use a correction LUT. Log footage can be graded perfectly well without one. Lastly, lastly, I find that the Action 5 still looks overly sharp even with a -2 texture setting. I noticed that your footage definitely looks like it has had some extra softening applied, almost like some sort of Pro Mist filter?
Man editing filts and LUTS are so subjectuve. I personally hate the way you edit your video as i prefer a brighter scene but the beautiful thing about this camera is that you can change all this in post and edit it to your own liking. Grest video overall
Good video but isn`t the footage pretty dark? I can see it`s not filmed on a sunny day, but all the same. Are you keeping the ISO low because the noise will be quite prevalent?
Love your channel, Sam. You mention that this camera is the first camera that can produce cinematic results and arguing that it due to the option to shoot in 10-bit D-log M. Well, so does the Osmo Action 4 as well.
Not just 10-bit D-Log M, the OA4 also does it in 150Mbps instead of 100Mbps like on the OA5 Pro. With that said i don't think you would be able to see any actual difference between the two because of that.
@@LiamMarskog that’s interesting, didn’t know about the bitrate differences. Any way to actually identify the bitrate? I miss the advanced setting options on the Gopro Hero 12 where among others the bitrate could be set manually. However the image quality at D-log M 10-bit and both sharpness and noise reduction set to -2 is in my opinion really good and comparable to GP12 shot at 150Mbps (immensely much better rendition of details compared to auto settings!).
@@oisteinthomassen There is no way to see or manipulate the bitrate in either the OA4 or the OA5 Pro. Also it's not CBR but VBR so the bitrate will change depending on the situation which means the bitrate will most likely be similar if not the same a lot of the time even though the OA4 has a higher maximum bitrate. I believe it's the same on the GP12, you can set the maximum bitrate but it's still not CBR but VBR so it will change. CBR = Constant Bitrate, VBR = Variable Bitrate. I absolutely agree, the IQ is better on the OA4 compared to the GP12. It's also still better than the GP13 which ofc still uses the same sensor as the GP12 and they didn't really do anything about IQ at all in that camera. They just introduced (basically stole) the magnetic mount from DJI and improved it a little plus really improved lens filters. Other than that it's about the same except for some higher frame rates which aren't all that useful. DJI still has them beat when it comes to sheer IQ in both OA4 and the OA5 Pro. Like i said earlier i cannot see a IQ difference between the OA4 and 5 Pro that could be attributed to the lower bitrate. As the OA5 has much much better processing there's reason to believe stuff like HDR and ofc the possibility of no pixel binning whatsoever (full sensor readout) could increase IQ meaning no visual difference. Could also be that as both cameras use VBR the bitrate is most of the time similar if not the same which is why there's no real visual difference between the two IQ wise.
I believe it is already confirmed that the next firmware for the OA5 will allow higher bitrate and fix any issues everyone has had with that. So! Just hang in there.
@@HeyEllwood I have not seen any official statement whatsoever from DJI about allowing for higher bitrates in the OA5 Pro but it would make sense. As for fixing issues people has had like the halo-effect around objects in normal color mode from the bad HDR implementation i'm sure they will fix that in firmware. Quite surprised that issue was allowed to not be fixed before release though.
Thank you for the video i got a 4 in the mail box and your video is just what I'm looking for! Even if you are sponsored by DJI i appreciate your view on the footage
Hey First timer on your channel. i just purchased a DJI Action 5 Pro. I was very impressed the way you made the footage look. Thank you for this video. I just have one question, you said you use Gamut LUTS as style luts. which one of the LUT packs use purchased for the OA5 PRO?

Try doubling the shutter speed again. So if you’re running 30fps at 1/60th try switching to 1/120. Gives the sensor just a little more info and it will help the micro stutters while still having motion blur.
Hi man , can you give me a tip or suggestion actually i bought osmo 5 pro and whenever i see output is bad its blurry so idk what happened with my camara.!
Aloha~i just got my action5, switched over from many years of experiences w/gp9,10,12...after first video recording in outdoor sunny sky my video is too dark...i have chekced the setting but not sure what am i doing wrong? thx.
Great video, Sam! I recently tried a similar setup with my new DJI Osmo Action 5 using an ND8 filter, shooting at 4K24fps with a shutter speed of 1/50, and RockSteady/RockSteady+ enabled. Unfortunately, I ran into an issue where the footage had a noticeable shakiness or flickering, but the problem disappeared when I turned off stabilisation. Have you ever noticed a similar issue with these settings?
Electronic stabilization absolutely needs high (i.e., short) shutter speeds. So the best way to use it - as an action camera - is to shoot at 60p, with high shutter speeds = without ND filters (and forget about "cinematic" B$. ) 24 fps is the worst frame rate for an action camera. Actually, it is terrible for any content to be watched on a 60 fps monitor.
Hey @komandagleby_GB! Thanks for the reply :) I just heard back from DJI support, and yeah, they confirmed what you said! stabilisation doesn’t work well with those settings. It kinda sucks seeing so many TH-camrs claim that it does work, when clearly it doesn’t...

I’ve been filming a few things and then when downloaded to PC (iMac) the footage is jumpy and not continuous. Sound isn’t, tried internal and external on 4k and both seem to provide the same footage. Is this faulty or I’m I stupid and doing something wrong which I’d be shocked at.. tried all sorts! Many thanks if you can help explain
You can never get truly cinematic footage following the rules because of the digital stabilization. You need a mechanical gimbal. You can get cinematic footage if the action cam is not moving, though.
I get the feeling that you use too much halo blur or similar. It is so exaggerated that it looks like the optics are dirty instead of giving the feeling of nostalgic.
Waiting for DJI to address the very low bitrate with a firmware update before considering the AC5. 100 Mbps MAX is terrible, considering more popular resolutions and framerate combinations are closer to half that. The hardware aspects are great, but DJI went very conservative with the software.
