- I was so looking forward to this ride from Shanghai to PuDong airport, but it wasn't up to expectations. Come and explore a beautiful temple, government memorial cemetery and witness the absolutely crazy crowds at the Bund. I have never seen crowds like this before.

You now that train can reach 431 km/h, but just 4 times a day I think. Last time I went there I rode it 431 in the afternoon. It was autumn last year.
Actually there is a board, telling you which shift runs at the speed of 430km/h, near the ticket office.

The music is beautiful.
Well, I have been to Shanghai four times over the years, and have never ridden on the Maglev train. First couple of times in Shanghai, Pudong airport wasn't open, so flew in and out of Hongqiao airport west of Shanghai. At that time, (1993) the ONLY major building on the east side of the Huangpu River was the Orient Pearl TV Tower. The Bund was spectacular - and deserted. The streets had few cars, but a sea of bicycles. My last time there was in 2009, and the Bund was closed off for construction while they prepared for the 2010 Expo. Your pictures looking from the Bund towards Pudong show the remarkable metamorphosis of Shanghai, and much of China in the past 25 years. I never saw anything like crowds that you saw - just as well as I don't do well in big crowds. What you showed was even worse that having to walk down the concourses at the Atlanta airport. 😵💫 Anyway, great video and stunning pictures. Cheers, Ian
Glad that you were able to recognized and get away from those scammers....hope to visit Shanghai after the Covid crisis.
Hi, what's the title of the music you're playing here? It's awesome.
Enjoyed watching your vlogs. Seriously, I really think I must start planning a trip to Shanghai now
The bund is a miles long waterfront stripe. The intersection going from Nanjing Road (the busiest shopping street) onto the Bund is always crowed but if you keep walking either left (recommended) or right (nice view as well) the crowd disappears quickly in a minute or two.
the maglev won't reach the top speed 431km/h only on particular time which the detail will display in the station.
I must go back and ride it again. I think it's the fastest you can travel without wings.
I strongly recommend you to visit chongqing ,China, which is 3d city, where A metro can go through A tall building in the sky. food here is also impressive.nothing would make you disappointed.
@@PlanesTrainsEverything Almost. The Chuo Maglev in Japan runs at 500km/h but you can only ride that when they open up tickets every so often.
Max. Speed : 1) To Airport : 6:45-8:45--->300km/h,,,,,9:00-10:45--->430km/h,,,,,11:00-14:45--->300km/h,,,,,15:00-15:45--->430km/h,,,,,16:00-21:40--->300km/h
2) Airport Back : 7:02-8:47--->300km/h,,,,,9:02-10:47--->430km/h,,,,,11:02-14:47--->300km/h,,,,,15:02-15:47--->430km/h,,,,,16:02-21:42--->300km/h
The classical music that you choose...Great music
I did experience the maglev train speed of 450kph speed way back in the 1990s. I remember, we weren't even seated because the trip to the city from the airport was less than 9 minutes!
It opened in 2003...
I have been on the Maglev numerous times as well. Last time that I was in China, it ran at 300 km/ hour
This video was a joy to watch.
Another great vlog - thanks
Shanghai is a terrific city. I was there 15 years ago - those views brought back memories. The Bund was crowdd when I went on an ordinary day. The food was wonderful. I rode the Maglev and it reached 431kph - I can understand your disappointment reaching "only" 301kph.
Expensive coffee.... I think you will end up paying a lot of RMB for the drinks. I have had them approach me in the past as well
If you go to the tea or coffee places she recommended, that will be the most expensive coffee in the world!
hahahahaha
You can always ask train station staff for information. They're friendly. Although not all of them speak English but usually they will find one to help you.
We got caught with the Maglev times as well. The view of the skyline from The Bund is breathtaking.
Hi Brian - the Bund view at night was probably on top of my list of things to do, just above the Great Wall. It's an amazing sight and one of the instantly recognisable skylines in the world.
Nice one Scott Love it. 👍👍
BGM is '画心 (Guzheng version)'.
Hi Scott, just watching your video on the train, the pseed of the train made me feel dizzy! That was just watching the video! Did it have any effect on you on the train?
Come to Leicester and /or Northampton that would be an interesting video often overlooked
nice video..
Fantastic journey xx don't you ever feel a little lonely?
That's a deep and meaningful question I'm always asked when I travel. When you travel alone you are more likely to talk to strangers, and drum up conversations. If you travel with someone, I think much of your time will be spent as a travelling couple relying on each other instead of plucking up courage to ask strangers for directions etc. I think you are only lonely if you want to be, and I can honestly that is something that has never crossed my mind.

Planes, Trains, Everything. Yw
Couple of questions: Did you have any trouble uploading videos to youtube while in China? And did you get any static from the police walking down the street shooting video?
do you see the one party system running much better than donkey&elephant system?
7:50 : All these characters mean the same thing : dragon 龍
You weren't rip off. The Shanghai Maglev only travel at 431 km/h 4 or 5 times a day (peak hours). You were on the off peak hours.
True
Only certain periods in a day it will run 430km/h.
I visited Shanghai in 2010 (World Expo) and used the maglev to the city, or actually the outskirts as the service was never extended to serve the city centre. Had to take a taxi to the hotel, hotel very wisely had a card on their website for guests to print & show taxi drivers with details of the location as many do not read the Latin script. Maglev certainly exceeded over 400 kph, I checked my video! The taxi went on the circular motorway bridge, very interesting. On the way back the taxi driver to the maglev drove like a madman, it was unsettling, perhaps he wanted the fare to the airport instead? Whilst in the city I was approached by a lady asking how I was getting on using public transport, I explained that as so much is in English with great ease, later she said she was a journalist interviewing Westerners in the city! But, I never had any lady friends ask me for a drink, a few wanted to touch my beard (Chinese men can't grow much facial hair) - prehaps having my wife with me was a relevant factor!!
When will we EVER see Rusty Nails return!!?!? We MISS HIM and THOSE adventures!
Stay safe my friend.
Hi and thanks for your comment. I injured my right arm in the spring (torn ligament) and as a result lifting anything, such as a metal detector, or using force, such as a shovel, is agony. I just have to rest things.
Planes, Trains, Everything. geez that’s horrible! You’re always getting yourself into some kind of mess (campus fight comes to mind!). I hope your recovery is going well. Looks like you’re finding ways to keep yourself busy in the meantime. I really hope to see you return to the treasure hunt one day. Really love the Rusty Nail videos.
Take care of yourself.
I loved the Maglev
The crowds at the bund only happens on national holidays.
When I was there I was told it was nothing special. It was just a typical Friday night, according to two people I spoke to. I'd hate to see the place at Chinese New Year. :-)
👍👍👍
🎶🎶🎶👍
Hi. Was your trip comfortable? Mine wasn't and comment was made by all western travellers on the particular train how rough it had been . Tried both economy and business class - no difference
去机场吃个大家乐又回去了😄
感觉现在的中国人的生活很幸福 ,很棒 !😀😀😀
中国现在在走上坡路,自豪感满满
👍👍👍🇨🇳💕
I took a photo of the screen of the words you wanted translating and used a translation app
It says "Maintain the original aspirations of the Communists and bravely shoulder the glorious city mission"
I believe that was one of the many British inventions that we gave away.
So they are either scammers, or "professional women who charge by the hour".
SUKIYA is actually japanese food,haha
Nice video! Modern trains. But if you want to experience "the most scenic" train journey, visit Sri Lanka. Just a suggestion.
Sri Lanka is on my bucket list, so one day...
What the hell!!! Where is our pm Trudeau? Which party is dare to make one of these connecting Québec city, Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto??? So jealous, how China is developing.....
Canada needs a high speed rail/maglev/potentially hyperloop!
China didn’t build this, Siemens of Germany built it.
The world's fastest train built in Germany.
Come to Thailand.
You will be a " Very Hunsum Man "
188 mph a rip off
Loos like you went the bund on a public holiday
Lots of crowds but Bloody orderly lined up and well behaved!!!
Anyways Girls all over You.......
YOU ARE a CHICK Magnet !!!
A WELL TRAVELLED person like you shouldn't have to ask !!!!
You are insulting your own intelligence !!!!!
你说中文我大爱中国火车马格勒火车
