    This channel is an encyclopedia for Black Metal, another great interview from a living legend of old, amazing insights on the Hellenic scene and the early bm scene in general, Jim is a no-nonsense pureblooded black metal fan the way I imagine the people in the early Scandinavian bm scenes used to be, that which surprises me is that it seems he still has that flame! Thanks a lot Rauta for the quality content!

    The first Greek Black Metal bands I discovered were: Varathron, Rotting Christ, Thou art Lord, & Necromantia. Have to agree with you, R.C. went overboard with the gothic stuff. Great interview btw\m/

    for the question about the "greek style" : public schools in greece dont teach music so you have to learn by your self DIY or private teacher or school, no money, anticommercialism,corpsepaint was considered too fake, lot of influence from punk-thrash, anarchistic ideology, no imigrants,incidents between footbal fans, no support from media or state until now,danger of war from turkish invasion until now so nationalism was an influence, political terrorism from far left organisations untill now,, going to the army is obligatory until now, the music was and is dominated by greek music bouzouki style, , or greek traditional, no tradition of classical music, metal or rock was too extreme you were a punk or a drug dealer or a terrorist, traditional religious society in contrast with rest of western europe, at the borders with communist countries eastern block or muslim countries, P.S Black metal or heavy metal in Greece became mainstream and dangerous when the case of 3 teenage 2 boys 1 girl SAtanists that murdered 2 women after raping them in 1991-1993 happened in East Attica a suburb of Athens..They were listening to metal and Rotting Christ. All of that in a sunny country in contrast with western europe full of tourism and beautifull landscapes in mountainous mainland+ a lot of history and full of orthodox churches. Unconsciously Orthodox christianity played ahuge role as all of greek orthodox priests are dressed in black, :) Greek black metal musicians totally denied to use any greek byzantine style melodies in their music as a reaction to their religion and dominant greek music. This tried to filled it with keys making atmosphere. Too bad for me as its sounds more evil...:) As Greece entered in EU in 1981 it was easier than from the past to get in touch of what was happening in Europe and Scandinavia . "Greek style" Black metal is an achievement cause they ve done it without support from no one only from friends . Black metal is the only non greek music style i think that Greece has sthng different to produce without using something "greek" melody or instrument in order to be different. They deserve a proper documentary movie...:)

      Thanks! This is a very good explanation. If I had the money and time, I would do this documentary myself but alas not possible.

    • @emperorsavron-peterdewind0358
      @emperorsavron-peterdewind0358 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Absolutely on point. Sakis Tolis, or Necromayhem of Rotting Christ [who even worked at a construction place to get some money] said that he and his band were called satanists and were pretty much treated like that by the locals and media after the incident in Pallini in 1992. But the greek black metal scene considered one of the killers who were theistic satanists very very stupid. Magus still is unhappy because that dude didn't give him back his occult books that he lent to him. "If there was someone younger there (sic), he could convince him to join the cult. Very easily".
