  • Proper behavior on-leash is one of the most fundamental aspects of a well behaved dog, In this video, Jim works with a new dog on the leash, and explains the first step in our leash training, which is to get the dog to follow the human.Brutus is learning to just follow Jim, instead of Jim following Brutus. In this way Brutus learns to pay attention to Jim on-leash and he is calm and relaxed.Once Brutus learns to follow, his leash training will progress into walking on a loose leash. Stay tuned for more videos on Brutus' training with us.

    For in-ears-users, who like to use just one to hear surroundings: Sound is solely on the left so you might want to switch which headphone you put in your ear.

    I started lead training a bit late, before I just let my lab pull until we got to a field and let her off so she's well trained off the lead, but not on. Should I avoid taking her to these places until she's fully lead trained? They're quite far so she probably would heel all the way and I wouldn't want to give her mixed signals if ya get me

      We would recommend loose leash walking for long walks. the heel should really only be used for short times, especially when you first teach it

    What do you do when you have a 100lb dog that just sits down and starts going backwards when it doesn't want to go into a building. If I turn my back and just walk he just keeps pulling backwards. I believe he is anxious or scared of the pet store. Thanks for you help

      Going into stores can be overwhelming for dogs. You need to practice these urban skills with your dog slowly. If you try to force him, he will get more and more afraid. The sliding doors in a lot of stores can be very scary. Just stand outside with him for a while and let him watch the door open and close. Don't try to make him go through until he is relaxed. Hope this helps.

    what do you guys think about retractable leashes? i currently use that with my frenchie

    • @mcsdog
      @mcsdog  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      retractable leashes are great for walking the dog, but they do induce pulling. we like them for regular walks, so the dog can get off to the side and explore
