Hello Carl. Love your videos. Taking notes and paying attention to steal some topics for my own productivity channel ;-)

Hello. Greetings from Turkey. I follow and like your content. I've been having problems with time management for a while. Thanks to this video, I also changed my perspective and it was very useful for me. Thanks...

How is it going? Did you find this new tactic hard?

Hi Carl! Love your content, thank you! The system works perfectly with one-time and recurrent tasks, but I fail to understand how you use it for things you want but don't know the next action. Let's say I'm taking on a completely new task at my work with new processes etc which has a deadline for this Friday. If it's Saturday today and I'm planning my week, I only know the next step. When I put it just like that, it makes me anxious -- what if I forget to continue adding the next steps? With projects, I didn't have this problem (had many more though!). Would love if you could answer how you'd deal with this! PS I don't really schedule my work time like writing/reading etc. in my calendar because I tend to have quite a spontaneous life -- even my sleep time may vary significantly from day to day. PPS Using Todoist or Things3 sometimes. Thanks!

Hi Ivan, I use the Start, Continue, Finish technique.

Thank you @@Carl_Pullein! Checked this, thank you! The problem is that 90% of my tasks are big, like writing an article, a chapter, or something like that, not necessarily to do with writing. And I have many of these with strict deadlines throughout the week. The problem I experience with the Start, Continue, Finish technique is that I have to have 5-7 'Start...' tasks on Monday and the same amount every day unless these become 'Finish...'. And, as I only have them for one day, it's tough to know how many more tasks I can do, let's say, on Wednesday -- I'll only know how much's left on Monday evening. And then on Tuesday evening. And so on. Do you think I'm using the technique the wrong way?... Thank youuu

@@IvanVenberg HI Ivan, one thing I've learned is I cannot fight time. That's fixed, and it doesn't matter how much I want to get done; I will always be limited by time. However, one area I worked on was to improve my processes. For instance, when I began writing a weekly blog post, it would take me 90 minutes to write the first draft. Today, having refined my processes over the years, first drafts take around 45 mins.
If you are struggling with time constraints, focus on refining and improving your processes.

This comment is so on time and on point; thank you!
I had some morning work today and wanted to chat a bit in a cafe afterwards. I saw that my time boxes started conflicting because I spent that time on things that hadn't been planned.
Then, I came home, watched your videos, and realised I tried to plan like Elon Musk, which did not help me. Realizing time is minimal and knowing you can't block every minute if you want to be productive and healthy was crucial to me.
I'd usually put the task of answering you in my inbox, but I’m replying now since I have free time before my planned activities.
Thank you a lot for the responses you've given. I so much want you to know how much you've done for me and how much you've helped me stick to what I want to achieve, protecting my rest. This is a journey anyway, and I’ll probably face challenges planning stuff, but thank you a lot for landing your hand on this journey. You're doing a great job, and you've helped me a lot. Thank you! @@Carl_Pullein

@@IvanVenberg Always happy to help, Ivan. Testing ideas and trying new things is a great way to find a system that works for you. You've now discovered Elon Musk's system doesn't work (I doubt it works for him either, TBH)

Prioritation isnt that another term even used in schools, universities.. as (everyone want your priority over others. Plus nobody put in time for preparation and evaluation) Overtime! (For many it even means working for free to keep up to demands, from the boss and other Co-workers doing the same or skipping corners of the adminstrative non-paid tasks). Pushed of tasks are either firefighted, or never done… or put on colleagues that nobody respects. 😂😢😂😮😂😢😂😅🎉

I suppose that could be the case inside dysfunctional organisations.

Carl, I've heard of a new app, over the last few days, for just this issue called TickTick. It seems to have all of the benefits of Todoist, with the ability to add your tasks to your calendar/time blocks. Have you tried it?

    • @Carl_Pullein
      @Carl_Pullein  ปีที่แล้ว +4

I stopped app switching a long time ago. It wasn't a very productive use of my time. Todoist will also allow me to sync tasks to my calendar. However, tasks can be done at anytime, calendar events need to be done at a set time.

@@Carl_Pullein I can appreciate that.... I'm trying to figure out a good way to get my tasks on my calendar in some form, in order to stop moving back and forth between batch time on the calendar and spending too much time on tasks. Any suggestions with Todoist?
