Your catalyst is somewhat similar to my own. Traveling the country in an RV has always been my retirement dream, but it's being moved up by 15 years. I was diagnosed with bilateral breast cancer 3 1/2 years ago (age 46), which was quickly followed by several permanent conditions/disorders/diseases. It was then that I realized there is a good chance I won't live to retirement age. My houses closes in 2 weeks and I'll be picking up my TT a few days thereafter! (Yay!) I do have worries about whether or not I can do the physical work by myself, but those worries do not overshadow my excitement to see where I'LL be waking up. I've watched several of your videos and I'll be watching many more of them in the upcoming weeks! You're always so peppy and candid and I just love your video style. I am so saddened to hear of your loss. How devastating that must have been, and must still be. I tell my kids to choose a career doing what they love and to live the life that makes THEM happy, so I knew immediately the point behind your sister's question. I wish you safe travels and many blessings wherever you go.
Last year at age 57 I had an unexpected emergency quintuple by-pass. My wife had retired a few years ago and I had planned to retire in 5 years and then we planned to by a 5th wheel and hit the road. When this happened everything for me changed and my time line went from 5 years to NOW! Luckily we were basically debt free with no mortgage and just a couple of minor bills. We aren’t waiting any longer. We have since purchased our 5th wheel and are preparing to start our travels.

I swear what you said could be my own testimonial. I'm a novelist, my daughter an artist, both of us yearning for a mobile lifestyle. We just moved to Washington State and are beginning our journey, or transitioning into this way of life, by doing a travel blog. Love your story, my brother had a similar situation. His wife passed soon after her first chemo. My brother decided to live. He retired and started living their dream to travel. The rest of the family does not understand, I do and support!
I have been raising 3 girls and taken care of brother and Mother past 12 years but both are gone to better place now and girls all grown. RV life ---here I come as soon as I sell this house and get out from under!

Very powerful message, I have 60 in the headlights. No debt, empty nester with my girlfriend (who just retired 1 week ago) and we have had the same conversation about taking off. I don't think you would ever have enough money, and if you did another 08 economy and you'll lose half of it anyway. I know I could make out there with my skill sets, mechanic, electrician.

My husband and I are preparing to start traveling next year, I can hardly wait. This year, January, my mom was told by her doctor that six months would be a long time. She passed away in early May. Her response was: "I thought I would have more time." Time is so precious, we take it for granted. It was a huge eye-opener.

This is very good video. I’m also traveling for two. I’m sure there’s many others. my catalyst was when my mother wanted to travel and got cancer, I watched her wither away and die looking out her window. I became disabled in the late 90s and things had progressed to the point to where I was sitting in a wheelchair looking out the window, then remembered my moms last year, and I said that’s it I’m out of here. I’ve been on the road now for three years, first in a class B+ and now this year I bought a huge van and I’m very happy with it cuz I got to build it out myself and I am now more functional than I was when I was sitting at home, the stress levels or just down to nothing. RV life basically save me and I’m so glad it did.

I so enjoy your videos. I am at this point. I actually lost my job over a year ago. lived on unemployment until it ran out. Funny I always told my children when they all left home to live their own lives I was going to do this. But I did not. It wasn't until recently that I had that ah-ha moment. My only brother passed away last year. He pretty much lived out of his SUV and everyone felt sorry for him because they thought he was homeless. But I get it now. He lived his life the way he wanted. He did what he enjoyed. He traveled, he was an avid fisherman, love ice fishing, and loved his freedom. Wish I had this ah-ha moment months ago. because meanwhile I sold his SUV, then wrecked my car, can't get another. Used all the money to pay rent and bills. Now waiting on disability. That back pay from disability will buy a Cargo van to get me started. I don't fish but my passion is in arts and crafting I have an Etsy Shop but would rather sell face to face and meet people. So I am in the process of selling all I own to help me get where I want to be. I am a bit scared that the disability will come through fast enough but I will be doing this one way or another. Meanwhile I will keep watching people like you, Bob Wells and Caroline and learning as much as I can. Thank you

In fact, I interviewed one for my blog that is able to control her disability more effectively on the road because she is in charge of her environment. That interview is coming out in the next couple of weeks on my blog but I just wanted to let you know that yes people do do this successfully and you can too!

I too have dedicated the last 28 years working hard for all the things we are supposed to have and enjoy. 4 years ago at the age of 44 I became ill with a chronic illness which has changed my life, as most days I feel unwell. However travel makes life exciting again and makes me feel normal for a change. My career is no longer important to me and I just want to spend time travelling with my Husband. He retires in less than 2 years, so my hardest job now is convincing him to give up the bricks and mortar, to go off on our travels. I am grateful to you for sharing your story, as it has convinced me that my dreams are attainable and I can make this happen. Unfortunately the UK where I live is not as motorhome friendly as the US, however Europe in general is great to explore. We are off on a test run soon, hiring a van to visit France & Switzerland, so really excited about that. I’m just binge watching your videos at the moment to get as much advice as I can. Found your channel by accident. I loved this video, I couldn't get out earlier because I was raising a family, then never had much money but we did tent camp whenever possible. I finally retired about a year ago, I was able to put some money on the side and I'm planning to spend most of my time in my trailer on the road. I envy you that you were able to live your dream at a younger age. I just turned 72 yo.
Fortunately my 81 year old mother and I discovered this life style opportunity just as her house was beginning the foreclosure process. We have about a year to sell everything off and get on the road to start her bucket list. I just subbed and hope to learn from you about how to do it right.

I am so glad I found your videos through Cheap RV Living! Everything you said makes perfect sense to me! As a full time hospice nurse, I see every day the effects of deferred living in my work with grieving patients and families, yet I am so fearful to get off the wheel myself out of fear of missing out on the pension and the health insurance. At 54, I feel my back and knees aching more and more every day, and if I have to work this job for another decade, there won't be much left of my body or spirit. You have absolutely convinced me to do this! Thank you!
Jessica - I am 70 plus and I am starting my nomad life in July! You can do it! I have arthritis and my granddaughter has fibromyalgia. We both love camping, and she solos over 7 hours on trips to see me, and I have been a traveler ALL my life. See you out there - somewhere!
Jessica and Melissa, my spouse is a nurse practitioner who had to give up her practice last year because of serious health issues. Three months later my mother passed. We will be selling our house and getting an RV this summer, but I will still have to work for now to keep our health insurance. Life is too short. Hope to meet you at the RTR next January!

OMG, I really hope you keep making videos. This one completely hit home to me. I’ve been researching RVing for the past year and watch the same 3 people on TH-cam you mentioned. I’m a single mom and my youngest son is graduating next year...I’ve already prepped my kids emotionally because I intend to sell the 4 bedroom house and live in an RV full time in about 15 months. Similarly to you, I started out looking for "RV Stuff", and 4 hours later landed on this video. Hello from Manitoba Canada I just came across your stuff and I am a fan already! I am so very sorry about your sister and I too believe she's with you enjoying the ride. I am a full timer but taking baby steps .. in between I stay with my folks and help them out. I am a former teacher. I am about to turn 55. I am solo with my cat Max. I sold my house and contents two summers ago and have taken some long trips. I already had my 21 foot motorhome .. bought it new in 2012 on a home equity loan that I paid off when my house sold. I started camping after our family cabin sold in 2010 .. had a tent / towed a trailer/ got the motorhome. I learned everything online and by just doing it. Ten years ago my life took a very different direction than planned ... I was very unwell and sunk into a dark place .. was a recluse. one day I snapped out of it . I thought I'm either going to die in this house or get out and LIVE. I have PTSD and this is a part of my wellness plan .. a NATURAL wellness plan ... the mental health system did nothing for me and in fact hurt me so I'm getting myself well and it's working. I love being a nomad. I am getting ready to head out on a long trip. I'm going to head west and visit people / see sights and then in Fall I'm heading south. We can only stay out of country for six months if we want to keep our healthcare. I want to connect with others and it seems going to the USA is the way to do that. I'm thinking of attending the RTR in Arizona in January. I want to find that tribe I hear about. I too am very self sufficient/ independent but it's time to meet some fellow nomads. Going to watch more of your videos. ✌
That story about your sister just tugged at my heart. I'm sorry that had to be the reason you were pushed to move forward. I just recently came across your channel and am happy I did. Like you, we've watched every RV'r out there: Nomadic Fanatic, The Motorhome Experiment (got to meet them last summer), Gone with the Wynns, Love Your RV, Keep Your Daydream, Less Junk More Journey, and so on and so on. I watch them to stay focused on our plan and can't wait to get out on the road. We sold our house, sold a boat, and bought our RV and a truck. We're stationary here in Indiana while we work on paying these two items off and save some money to have as a back up. It's hard to leave that great salary. But at the end of the day, I dread every Monday that roles around and each week day morning after that. I start counting down to Friday the very second I walk into work on Monday. It's not motivating and almost debilitating. So right now I'm researching everything I can to start a blog (www.taketheexit.com, not launched yet, literally working on it right now) and we are doing a few things here and there with our Take the Exit TH-cam channel, but it's more a video journal for ourselves and family and friends (that think we're crazy). I've also started my freelance design biz and have a couple clients through Upwork. But I know it's not enough, I have to get serious bout this and the past couple vids I saw of yours, keep me focused on that. Anyway, I think this is one of the first videos I've commented on and just want to say that I'm glad I stumbled across your channel and very glad you're out doing what you do. Take the Exit wow! You have a lot of great stuff going on. I'm sure you'll be successful in the road. Since your attained in IN, have the heard of freelance RV delivery jobs? They pay you to drive new RVs to dealers in other states. Bob Wells did a video on this work a lady a couple of years ago and it was a way for her to make money and travel. LOL....I just cant get enough of you!!! I have been planning to RV Full Time for 3 years now. However, one thing or another has hijacked my plans. I was beginning to think and feel that my plans were just pipe dreams. It has gotten me real down. But on a good note..... I have made the decision that I am cracking down. Hell or High Water I am moving forward! I am going to RV Full Time!! I have a two year plan. I have a daughter getting married, Got to get thought with that event. I need to pay off some debt. I am very moved by your story. I'm actually crying. I am joining the nomadic movement as well. As soon as some debt is paid off and my car is paid (maybe even before that), I'm moving into my Prius to become a digital nomad. I cannot wait. Maybe I'll see you on the road! AMEN to that! I know all to well the prison of commitment to corporate jobs and being a single parent of 2 sons I had to put my own life aside and buckle down which for those years I struggled getting them through school and battling cancer myself. Today I’ve so far been cancer free since 1995 and kids are grown and on their own and my restless spirit of the road is yanking me back to the nomadic lifestyle. My mortgage of my little trailer and double lot of land on the Kennebec River bank in Maine are paid in full... here I go again to test my skills of open road! A little older and slower but I got some fire left, I’ll be looking forward to your videos and I’ve been following all the same folks... I found Bobs site a few years ago, amazing free spirit
Robin, So happy you did just what you needed to do to be happy. I've never been in the corporate world, but always ended up working for one in a capacity I really did not want. I liked just being a worker, and always was edged into a supervisory or low management position. Eventually I ended up disabled, and was let go because I was no longer useful. The past 17 years I have tried to stretch my money to make ends meet, and it seems I am part of the rat race of always being in debt, fueling some rich person. I saw Bob, and now You, and it has gotten an itch in me to do what I always wanted, travel before I am too old or just die. I am nearing 70, but still am very active. But I have basically always been afraid of camping, always worried about being victimized or somehow hurt by a wild animal. I purchase a super tiny cargo trailer (4x6) and have been converting it for what I call a hard walled sleeping tent, and am still up on the fence about how to go about trying the life you are now enjoying. I do own a house, but like you said, it is a money pit, pretty much never allowing you to get any cash freed up. Something in my life needs to change before it is too late, and your talk might have nudged me closer to what you are now experiencing. I guess the only way to discover if the Nomad life is for me is to get out for a few weeks and try it. Maybe this year will be the year. Best wishes to you.

How ironic. Robin, we could be twins, except I got caught up in the rat trap job, trying to be a good mother, handle finances, emergencies, and be the best I could be as an office manager in a Dr's office that had 8 Drs. Talk about stress!!! And then transcribe all of the Drs patient notes and various other types of correspondence once I was home.. Now I'm disabled, sitting at home, watching UTUBE, and following the tribe :). I've been searching and dreaming of owning a beautiful RV, so that it's possible to travel, meet everybody, and see places I've never seen before. I lost my mom recently, and it was devastating. I'm so so sorry you lost your sister. You have encouraged me beyond words. Well, you have a new follower. And I can't wait to see your home :). Happy travels and please be safe.

I’ve been following you for months now, and it was fun to view this video on how you started out and your plans to share your incredible life and decision to head out. I’m 67 this June and have been deciding if this life is for me. I own a 19’ Starcraft Star Steam trailer and have made several week long trips to Maryland’s Chincoteague Island, having loved each minute! In a previous life I was a triathlete and event rider. Horses and bicycling were what defined me until a debilitating back injury grounded me. Retired from critical care nursing on disability since 2013, (btw, I absolutely loved my job and excelled in it) I lost my identity and who I was as a person). At this point I feel it’s now or never to decide to sell my home and possessions and take off. My Mom had contracted polio in 1956 and lived the remainder of her life in a wheelchair. Up until that time she’d been a vivacious woman who was years ahead of her time in pursuing adventures. She died in 2001 having taken life by the horns and participating in activities as she was able while holding down 2 full time jobs from home! Before my Dad died in 1989, they’d retro fitted a Winnebago with a hospital bed and traveled cross country. She was absolutely remarkable! I feel I’d like to honor her memory and take off on an adventure as you have. I know there will be challenges and uncertain times, but It’s my hope to handle them with the maturity and grace as you! Thank you for your vulnerability, your gift of expressing yourself, and your convictions! I shall remain a loyal viewer!♥️
Thank you Robin for sharing your story. It touched me deeply. I love that you have brought your sister along on this journey. I lost my best "sister" friend of 25+ years, a year ago December. Her departure has brought me to the point of my journey to go do what I love, write, draw, paint, photography and travel. Now, I am not young like you, but I have given myself away to the corporate envoirnment for so long and kept my creativety bottle up just to ensure I had the American dream; only to discover that the more I gave the more they wanted and left me depleated. I planned on retiring earlier in life but was recovering from the 2008 housing crisis rebuilding our credit. As a result just kept swimming upstream to keep our heads above water. Hubby could not take it any more and quit his job 1 1/2 years ago (he had inherited a small bit of money which gave him the freedom to do this) and I continued to work to keep up our lifestyle. Long story short we made the committment and bought our RV (paid cash for no debt) and began making our serious plans to retire. Like you, I have been glued to You Tube channels of Bob, Eric, Carolyn, and more to absorbe all we can to prepare. Paid off our debt. I turn 66 in June, I am so ready to retire, give my notice and hit road on July 29. Thank you for the insperation. Mike and I love your channel and all the tips. I love this video and the honest message you're sending. I'm so sorry about your sister. The brother of my childhood best friend (my family met their family 45 years ago on the plane moving from Seattle to Japan when our respective fathers got their new naval station assignments) just died from pancreatic cancer. He was 52. My mom and I are flying out to Maryland at the end of the month for his memorial service. I turn 50 in 3 months. There are no guarantees and I have finally asked myself WHY I've been trying SO HARD--working, owning a home, etc. for so very little in return? I look around at all of the "stuff" that is supposed to make me feel like I succeeded as an adult and the truth is, none of this crap brings me the kind of joy that a desert sunset does, or a challenging hike or catching a fish big enough to keep and eat or seeing friends in other states...and the daily stress is slowly killing me, I just know it. I'm extremely lucky to have a loving and emotionally supportive husband but our dreams are different. He says he'll hold down the fort (our home) while I'm away and of course he'll join me when he can. I can't wait til the day when I pull away in my own RV. It's been a long time since I was so completely sure of a monumental, life-changing personal decision. Thank you SO MUCH for sharing your story. You're making a difference!
OH and I lived in Seattle for many years. I left 5 years ago because it was becoming so expensive. I lived on CapHill. I see a steady stream of people living up there complaining about the excessive costs. When I moved to Seattle in 1997, I lived in a grand old house on Bellevue Ave and paid $250 for the room. That doesn't exist anymore. In fact around the time I left that awesome old house was demolished to make room for some expensive condos. I had a view overlooking Lake Union and the Space Needle. That same view now costs someone probably, easily $2000 a month (if not more).

I am desperate to not have regrets. My sister wanted to travel, to live life fully, and like your sister her life was cut short. I refuse to let that happen to me. I just found your youtube channel a few days ago while on vacation in our 32' travel trailer. Like you, I am a creative - a graphic designer. I've been watching your videos for a few months now and went back today to watch the first one, after having watched the most recent one today, Seotember 15, 2019. In thar video you talked about your first one and I realized I never watched it. It was so wonderful, pure, sincere. I was enamored by it. I absolutely love your videos. Thanks for providing this great resource and public service to....especially to the women audience! I just bought a PW Ascent, will travel with my sweet Josie, wire Fox terrier...not full time, maybe later though. I traveled full time in a 45' Newell with former husband and I realized that I miss it especially since I'm ALWAYS researching rigs, apps, videos. Dreaming about it has taken over my life!!! Will continue to tune in and follow you and refer your channel to all the ladies I meet who are new RV travelers, which I have already on several occasions. I'm a Facebook follower too. I listed 12 books I have titles & ideas for, and 10 of them I have one chapter or more and keep telling myself I will take a year or two off from work to complete them...and the years go by. Maybe this is my year to live the writer's life. You've inspired me!
Wow! I'm 23 and for the longest growing up, I loved writing and reading. I even started writing a fiction novel but never finished. I told my mother that I wanted to be an author, but of course she said that wouldn't be able to steadily pay the bills. I understand that. There are many things I love to do so I pursued a more "realistic" career and hope to be able to have the time to write and fund the publishing as a registered nurse. I'll be graduating next year, plan to live the mobile lifestyle as soon as I can buy a small rig, work 3 days to really have more freedom/downtime. Since last year, I found the Ashtanga yoga practice and really want to commit to it - it is a lifestyle of 6 days a week practice. I also love photography and travel too lol There's so many things I'd like to accomplish, but I dread my dreams may be too much. This has touched me greatly ... so many people think the bigger the better, the more the merrier ... it all just surmounts to too much stress and that literally kills according to my nursing studies on the body! I'm still going to strive for my dreams, stay creative and not lose sight on that. Who knows, maybe one day I'll gradually stop working as a nurse which is a shame because I truly love connecting with my patients. It will be a dilemma I'll have to face someday. Thanks so much!
When you said what your boss told you my blood started boiling, we are 25 years old and i drive a truck locally, everyday i daydream about leaving im working towards it i have 1 year left. I will not get stuck with the life everybody says thanks for the videos im watching them all as i write this.
First I'm so very sorry for the loss of your sister. Thanks for opening up and sharing the "why" for you, I completely feel the same way. Last year was filled with loss and it really got me thinking about life and death. When you find out that you have cancer or something occurs that will soon be taking your life, it totally shakes up your world. What if there is not a later, nothing is guaranteed. I don't want to live with regrets and take that gamble. I choose to live in the now and cherish every moment. Just found your channel and will check out your videos and blog. Thank you for sharing this video. I am in the mist of planning and learning “road skills” working on my next two Christian books, blogging and more. Praying I will be on the road in 2021. I need to finish up some financial contracts then get my new home. 😊 It will take me at least until then to close down my company which is a skill that does not travel state to state, but teaching it does. I have been faithfully learning RV life through many of the same videos you did just to be mentally ready while I get financially ready. Thank you again!!! It's the same catalyst for me except that I'm older. My big sister passed away almost 2 years ago from ovarian cancer but it seems like yesterday and I was so stuck in grief I couldn't get out of my own way. Somehow the idea of RV came into my head and I, like you, spent months researching. I'm in the process of cleaning out my house and getting it ready to put on the market. I have my RV and am ready to go. Your story touches my heart and I hope we meet someday. Wish you the best of everything!

Your catalyst is somewhat similar to my own. Traveling the country in an RV has always been my retirement dream, but it's being moved up by 15 years. I was diagnosed with bilateral breast cancer 3 1/2 years ago (age 46), which was quickly followed by several permanent conditions/disorders/diseases. It was then that I realized there is a good chance I won't live to retirement age.
My houses closes in 2 weeks and I'll be picking up my TT a few days thereafter! (Yay!) I do have worries about whether or not I can do the physical work by myself, but those worries do not overshadow my excitement to see where I'LL be waking up.
I've watched several of your videos and I'll be watching many more of them in the upcoming weeks! You're always so peppy and candid and I just love your video style.
I am so saddened to hear of your loss. How devastating that must have been, and must still be. I tell my kids to choose a career doing what they love and to live the life that makes THEM happy, so I knew immediately the point behind your sister's question.

Last year at age 57 I had an unexpected emergency quintuple by-pass. My wife had retired a few years ago and I had planned to retire in 5 years and then we planned to by a 5th wheel and hit the road. When this happened everything for me changed and my time line went from 5 years to NOW! Luckily we were basically debt free with no mortgage and just a couple of minor bills. We aren’t waiting any longer. We have since purchased our 5th wheel and are preparing to start our travels.

Love your story, my brother had a similar situation. His wife passed soon after her first chemo. My brother decided to live. He retired and started living their dream to travel. The rest of the family does not understand, I do and support!
I have been raising 3 girls and taken care of brother and Mother past 12 years but both are gone to better place now and girls all grown. RV life ---here I come as soon as I sell this house and get out from under!

Very powerful message, I have 60 in the headlights. No debt, empty nester with my girlfriend (who just retired 1 week ago) and we have had the same conversation about taking off. I don't think you would ever have enough money, and if you did another 08 economy and you'll lose half of it anyway. I know I could make out there with my skill sets, mechanic, electrician.

My husband and I are preparing to start traveling next year, I can hardly wait. This year, January, my mom was told by her doctor that six months would be a long time. She passed away in early May. Her response was: "I thought I would have more time." Time is so precious, we take it for granted. It was a huge eye-opener.

This is very good video. I’m also traveling for two. I’m sure there’s many others. my catalyst was when my mother wanted to travel and got cancer, I watched her wither away and die looking out her window. I became disabled in the late 90s and things had progressed to the point to where I was sitting in a wheelchair looking out the window, then remembered my moms last year, and I said that’s it I’m out of here. I’ve been on the road now for three years, first in a class B+ and now this year I bought a huge van and I’m very happy with it cuz I got to build it out myself and I am now more functional than I was when I was sitting at home, the stress levels or just down to nothing. RV life basically save me and I’m so glad it did.

I so enjoy your videos. I am at this point. I actually lost my job over a year ago. lived on unemployment until it ran out. Funny I always told my children when they all left home to live their own lives I was going to do this. But I did not. It wasn't until recently that I had that ah-ha moment. My only brother passed away last year. He pretty much lived out of his SUV and everyone felt sorry for him because they thought he was homeless. But I get it now. He lived his life the way he wanted. He did what he enjoyed. He traveled, he was an avid fisherman, love ice fishing, and loved his freedom. Wish I had this ah-ha moment months ago. because meanwhile I sold his SUV, then wrecked my car, can't get another. Used all the money to pay rent and bills. Now waiting on disability. That back pay from disability will buy a Cargo van to get me started. I don't fish but my passion is in arts and crafting I have an Etsy Shop but would rather sell face to face and meet people. So I am in the process of selling all I own to help me get where I want to be. I am a bit scared that the disability will come through fast enough but I will be doing this one way or another. Meanwhile I will keep watching people like you, Bob Wells and Caroline and learning as much as I can. Thank you

In fact, I interviewed one for my blog that is able to control her disability more effectively on the road because she is in charge of her environment. That interview is coming out in the next couple of weeks on my blog but I just wanted to let you know that yes people do do this successfully and you can too!

I too have dedicated the last 28 years working hard for all the things we are supposed to have and enjoy. 4 years ago at the age of 44 I became ill with a chronic illness which has changed my life, as most days I feel unwell. However travel makes life exciting again and makes me feel normal for a change. My career is no longer important to me and I just want to spend time travelling with my Husband. He retires in less than 2 years, so my hardest job now is convincing him to give up the bricks and mortar, to go off on our travels. I am grateful to you for sharing your story, as it has convinced me that my dreams are attainable and I can make this happen. Unfortunately the UK where I live is not as motorhome friendly as the US, however Europe in general is great to explore. We are off on a test run soon, hiring a van to visit France & Switzerland, so really excited about that. I’m just binge watching your videos at the moment to get as much advice as I can. Found your channel by accident. I loved this video, I couldn't get out earlier because I was raising a family, then never had much money but we did tent camp whenever possible. I finally retired about a year ago, I was able to put some money on the side and I'm planning to spend most of my time in my trailer on the road. I envy you that you were able to live your dream at a younger age. I just turned 72 yo.
Fortunately my 81 year old mother and I discovered this life style opportunity just as her house was beginning the foreclosure process. We have about a year to sell everything off and get on the road to start her bucket list. I just subbed and hope to learn from you about how to do it right.

I am so glad I found your videos through Cheap RV Living! Everything you said makes perfect sense to me! As a full time hospice nurse, I see every day the effects of deferred living in my work with grieving patients and families, yet I am so fearful to get off the wheel myself out of fear of missing out on the pension and the health insurance. At 54, I feel my back and knees aching more and more every day, and if I have to work this job for another decade, there won't be much left of my body or spirit. You have absolutely convinced me to do this! Thank you!

OMG, I really hope you keep making videos. This one completely hit home to me. I’ve been researching RVing for the past year and watch the same 3 people on TH-cam you mentioned. I’m a single mom and my youngest son is graduating next year...I’ve already prepped my kids emotionally because I intend to sell the 4 bedroom house and live in an RV full time in about 15 months. Btw, I haven’t heard you mention the rv brand you own but I totally know just by the background! I plan on buying the same model you have.

Similarly to you, I started out looking for "RV Stuff", and 4 hours later landed on this video. I am so very sorry about your sister and I too believe she's with you enjoying the ride.
I am a full timer but taking baby steps .. in between I stay with my folks and help them out.
I am a former teacher. I am about to turn 55. I am solo with my cat Max.
I sold my house and contents two summers ago and have taken some long trips. I already had my 21 foot motorhome .. bought it new in 2012 on a home equity loan that I paid off when my house sold. I started camping after our family cabin sold in 2010 .. had a tent / towed a trailer/ got the motorhome. I learned everything online and by just doing it.
Ten years ago my life took a very different direction than planned ... I was very unwell and sunk into a dark place .. was a recluse. one day I snapped out of it . I thought I'm either going to die in this house or get out and LIVE.
I have PTSD and this is a part of my wellness plan .. a NATURAL wellness plan ... the mental health system did nothing for me and in fact hurt me so I'm getting myself well and it's working.
I love being a nomad.
I am getting ready to head out on a long trip. I'm going to head west and visit people / see sights and then in Fall I'm heading south. We can only stay out of country for six months if we want to keep our healthcare.
I want to connect with others and it seems going to the USA is the way to do that.
I'm thinking of attending the RTR in Arizona in January.
I want to find that tribe I hear about. I too am very self sufficient/ independent but it's time to meet some fellow nomads.

That story about your sister just tugged at my heart. I'm sorry that had to be the reason you were pushed to move forward. I just recently came across your channel and am happy I did.
Like you, we've watched every RV'r out there: Nomadic Fanatic, The Motorhome Experiment (got to meet them last summer), Gone with the Wynns, Love Your RV, Keep Your Daydream, Less Junk More Journey, and so on and so on. I watch them to stay focused on our plan and can't wait to get out on the road. We sold our house, sold a boat, and bought our RV and a truck. We're stationary here in Indiana while we work on paying these two items off and save some money to have as a back up. It's hard to leave that great salary. But at the end of the day, I dread every Monday that roles around and each week day morning after that. I start counting down to Friday the very second I walk into work on Monday. It's not motivating and almost debilitating. So right now I'm researching everything I can to start a blog (www.taketheexit.com, not launched yet, literally working on it right now) and we are doing a few things here and there with our Take the Exit TH-cam channel, but it's more a video journal for ourselves and family and friends (that think we're crazy). I've also started my freelance design biz and have a couple clients through Upwork. But I know it's not enough, I have to get serious bout this and the past couple vids I saw of yours, keep me focused on that. Anyway, I think this is one of the first videos I've commented on and just want to say that I'm glad I stumbled across your channel and very glad you're out doing what you do. Take the Exit wow! You have a lot of great stuff going on. I'm sure you'll be successful in the road. Since your attained in IN, have the heard of freelance RV delivery jobs? They pay you to drive new RVs to dealers in other states. Bob Wells did a video on this work a lady a couple of years ago and it was a way for her to make money and travel. This is I've of my back up plans if I ever need it. Since your in the hub, might be good for you. Safe travels!
Robin, I have to just say THANK YOU!!! I found your channel not long ago and binge watch you until I caught up to your current video. Now I am going back and re watching select videos. LOL....I just cant get enough of you!!! I have been planning to RV Full Time for 3 years now. However, one thing or another has hijacked my plans. I was beginning to think and feel that my plans were just pipe dreams. It has gotten me real down. But on a good note..... I have made the decision that I am cracking down. Hell or High Water I am moving forward! I am going to RV Full Time!! I have a two year plan. I have a daughter getting married, Got to get thought with that event. I need to pay off some debt. And at the same time I need to save some cash-o-la, I am getting my ducks in a row. I am determined to make this happen. You are very inspirational. I love how raw and real you are in this video. Love this! Debt equity. I had a CEO tell me once, "Carol, you can just walk away." While he didn't know my finances, he was concerned that I wasn't in debt enough to work for him forever. Well said, Robin.

I am very moved by your story. I'm actually crying. I am joining the nomadic movement as well. As soon as some debt is paid off and my car is paid (maybe even before that), I'm moving into my Prius to become a digital nomad. I cannot wait. Maybe I'll see you on the road! I'm going on a month-long trip across America in April 2019 to give myself a taste of the full-time travel life. Stay awesome!

AMEN to that! I know all to well the prison of commitment to corporate jobs and being a single parent of 2 sons I had to put my own life aside and buckle down which for those years I struggled getting them through school and battling cancer myself. Today I’ve so far been cancer free since 1995 and kids are grown and on their own and my restless spirit of the road is yanking me back to the nomadic lifestyle. My mortgage of my little trailer and double lot of land on the Kennebec River bank in Maine are paid in full... here I go again to test my skills of open road! A little older and slower but I got some fire left, I’ll be looking forward to your videos and I’ve been following all the same folks... I found Bobs site a few years ago, amazing free spirit

Robin, So happy you did just what you needed to do to be happy.
I've never been in the corporate world, but always ended up working for one in a capacity I really did not want. I liked just being a worker, and always was edged into a supervisory or low management position. Eventually I ended up disabled, and was let go because I was no longer useful.
The past 17 years I have tried to stretch my money to make ends meet, and it seems I am part of the rat race of always being in debt, fueling some rich person. I saw Bob, and now You, and it has gotten an itch in me to do what I always wanted, travel before I am too old or just die.
I am nearing 70, but still am very active. But I have basically always been afraid of camping, always worried about being victimized or somehow hurt by a wild animal. I purchase a super tiny cargo trailer (4x6) and have been converting it for what I call a hard walled sleeping tent, and am still up on the fence about how to go about trying the life you are now enjoying.
I do own a house, but like you said, it is a money pit, pretty much never allowing you to get any cash freed up. Something in my life needs to change before it is too late, and your talk might have nudged me closer to what you are now experiencing. I guess the only way to discover if the Nomad life is for me is to get out for a few weeks and try it. Maybe this year will be the year.

How ironic. Robin, we could be twins, except I got caught up in the rat trap job, trying to be a good mother, handle finances, emergencies, and be the best I could be as an office manager in a Dr's office that had 8 Drs. Talk about stress!!! And then transcribe all of the Drs patient notes and various other types of correspondence once I was home.. Now I'm disabled, sitting at home, watching UTUBE, and following the tribe :). I've been searching and dreaming of owning a beautiful RV, so that it's possible to travel, meet everybody, and see places I've never seen before. I lost my mom recently, and it was devastating. I'm so so sorry you lost your sister. You have encouraged me beyond words. Well, you have a new follower. And I can't wait to see your home :). Happy travels and please be safe.

I’ve been following you for months now, and it was fun to view this video on how you started out and your plans to share your incredible life and decision to head out. I’m 67 this June and have been deciding if this life is for me. I own a 19’ Starcraft Star Steam trailer and have made several week long trips to Maryland’s Chincoteague Island, having loved each minute! In a previous life I was a triathlete and event rider. Horses and bicycling were what defined me until a debilitating back injury grounded me. Retired from critical care nursing on disability since 2013, (btw, I absolutely loved my job and excelled in it) I lost my identity and who I was as a person).
At this point I feel it’s now or never to decide to sell my home and possessions and take off. My Mom had contracted polio in 1956 and lived the remainder of her life in a wheelchair. Up until that time she’d been a vivacious woman who was years ahead of her time in pursuing adventures. She died in 2001 having taken life by the horns and participating in activities as she was able while holding down 2 full time jobs from home! Before my Dad died in 1989, they’d retro fitted a Winnebago with a hospital bed and traveled cross country. She was absolutely remarkable! I feel I’d like to honor her memory and take off on an adventure as you have. I know there will be challenges and uncertain times, but It’s my hope to handle them with the maturity and grace as you!

I lost my best "sister" friend of 25+ years, a year ago December. Her departure has brought me to the point of my journey to go do what I love, write, draw, paint, photography and travel.
Now, I am not young like you, but I have given myself away to the corporate envoirnment for so long and kept my creativety bottle up just to ensure I had the American dream; only to discover that the more I gave the more they wanted and left me depleated. I planned on retiring earlier in life but was recovering from the 2008 housing crisis rebuilding our credit. As a result just kept swimming upstream to keep our heads above water. Hubby could not take it any more and quit his job 1 1/2 years ago (he had inherited a small bit of money which gave him the freedom to do this) and I continued to work to keep up our lifestyle.
Long story short we made the committment and bought our RV (paid cash for no debt) and began making our serious plans to retire. Like you, I have been glued to You Tube channels of Bob, Eric, Carolyn, and more to absorbe all we can to prepare. Paid off our debt. I turn 66 in June, I am so ready to retire, give my notice and hit road on July 29. Thank you for the insperation.

I love this video and the honest message you're sending. I'm so sorry about your sister. The brother of my childhood best friend (my family met their family 45 years ago on the plane moving from Seattle to Japan when our respective fathers got their new naval station assignments) just died from pancreatic cancer. He was 52. My mom and I are flying out to Maryland at the end of the month for his memorial service. I turn 50 in 3 months. There are no guarantees and I have finally asked myself WHY I've been trying SO HARD--working, owning a home, etc. for so very little in return? I look around at all of the "stuff" that is supposed to make me feel like I succeeded as an adult and the truth is, none of this crap brings me the kind of joy that a desert sunset does, or a challenging hike or catching a fish big enough to keep and eat or seeing friends in other states...and the daily stress is slowly killing me, I just know it. I'm extremely lucky to have a loving and emotionally supportive husband but our dreams are different. He says he'll hold down the fort (our home) while I'm away and of course he'll join me when he can. I can't wait til the day when I pull away in my own RV. It's been a long time since I was so completely sure of a monumental, life-changing personal decision. Thank you SO MUCH for sharing your story. You're making a difference!
OH and I lived in Seattle for many years. I left 5 years ago because it was becoming so expensive. I lived on CapHill. I see a steady stream of people living up there complaining about the excessive costs. When I moved to Seattle in 1997, I lived in a grand old house on Bellevue Ave and paid $250 for the room. That doesn't exist anymore. In fact around the time I left that awesome old house was demolished to make room for some expensive condos. I had a view overlooking Lake Union and the Space Needle. That same view now costs someone probably, easily $2000 a month (if not more).
Thank you, Robin. I too lost my big sister. She was five years older than me and died of lung cancer at 52 - the same age I am now. I am desperate to give up this predictable life I lead. I am desperate to not have regrets. My sister wanted to travel, to live life fully, and like your sister her life was cut short. I refuse to let that happen to me. I just found your youtube channel a few days ago while on vacation in our 32' travel trailer. Like you, I am a creative - a graphic designer. I've been watching your videos for a few months now and went back today to watch the first one, after having watched the most recent one today, Seotember 15, 2019. In thar video you talked about your first one and I realized I never watched it. It was so wonderful, pure, sincere. I was enamored by it. I absolutely love your videos. Thanks for providing this great resource and public service to....especially to the women audience! I just bought a PW Ascent, will travel with my sweet Josie, wire Fox terrier...not full time, maybe later though. I traveled full time in a 45' Newell with former husband and I realized that I miss it especially since I'm ALWAYS researching rigs, apps, videos. Dreaming about it has taken over my life!!! Will continue to tune in and follow you and refer your channel to all the ladies I meet who are new RV travelers, which I have already on several occasions. I'm a Facebook follower too. Sorry to hear about your sister. Thank you for sharing your story. You were talking to me today about writing those books. I listed 12 books I have titles & ideas for, and 10 of them I have one chapter or more and keep telling myself I will take a year or two off from work to complete them...and the years go by. Maybe this is my year to live the writer's life. You've inspired me!

Wow! I'm 23 and for the longest growing up, I loved writing and reading. I even started writing a fiction novel but never finished. I told my mother that I wanted to be an author, but of course she said that wouldn't be able to steadily pay the bills. I understand that. There are many things I love to do so I pursued a more "realistic" career and hope to be able to have the time to write and fund the publishing as a registered nurse. I'll be graduating next year, plan to live the mobile lifestyle as soon as I can buy a small rig, work 3 days to really have more freedom/downtime. Since last year, I found the Ashtanga yoga practice and really want to commit to it - it is a lifestyle of 6 days a week practice. I also love photography and travel too lol There's so many things I'd like to accomplish, but I dread my dreams may be too much. This has touched me greatly ... so many people think the bigger the better, the more the merrier ... it all just surmounts to too much stress and that literally kills according to my nursing studies on the body! I'm still going to strive for my dreams, stay creative and not lose sight on that. Who knows, maybe one day I'll gradually stop working as a nurse which is a shame because I truly love connecting with my patients. It will be a dilemma I'll have to face someday.

When you said what your boss told you my blood started boiling, we are 25 years old and i drive a truck locally, everyday i daydream about leaving im working towards it i have 1 year left. I will not get stuck with the life everybody says thanks for the videos im watching them all as i write this.
First I'm so very sorry for the loss of your sister. Thanks for opening up and sharing the "why" for you, I completely feel the same way. Last year was filled with loss and it really got me thinking about life and death. When you find out that you have cancer or something occurs that will soon be taking your life, it totally shakes up your world. What if there is not a later, nothing is guaranteed. I don't want to live with regrets and take that gamble. I choose to live in the now and cherish every moment. Just found your channel and will check out your videos and blog.

I've been following you for a couple months and came back to your first video and am so touched by your story. Good for you and God Bless your sister. It's the same catalyst for me except that I'm older. My big sister passed away almost 2 years ago from ovarian cancer but it seems like yesterday and I was so stuck in grief I couldn't get out of my own way. Somehow the idea of RV came into my head and I, like you, spent months researching. I'm in the process of cleaning out my house and getting it ready to put on the market. I have my RV and am ready to go. Your story touches my heart and I hope we meet someday. Wish you the best of everything!

My first trip to Oceanside was productive. I learned about getting hot water by hook up. I hooked it up like boondocking. Great lesson. Gone 8 days. Tired! Resting for a couple of days.

Hi, great video! I am an author and artist. We (me and spouse) are planning to take off on an rv life this fall. just bought a class C motorhome and busy downsizing our house. I am so happy to find your channel. So sorry about your sister Carrie. It hurts to lose them. My dad died of cancer before he could retire, so it weighs on me also. He died at 62after 7 long years of illness and chemo. Now that I am close to 60, I realize we can’t wait to live our dreams. Love your quote, “now I own the wheel,”.
