    Thank you Thank you Thank you, for providing the raw footage. This is an amazing resource. If you ever review cameras, I hope you do the same thing. Working across different codecs, picture profiles, bitrates, is something I want to get under my belt, and you're helping do that by proving the footage. You a real one.

    I work in a similar fashion with the cst in to dwg/intermediate and cst out to rec709/2.4.
    Question: why do you set the source of dehancer to dwg/rec709 when you’re still in dwg/intermediate ? Shouldn’t it be deg/intermediate? If not, why?😅 and what is dwg/intermediate source in dehancer for?

    • @-austinsmith
      @-austinsmith  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      you're totally right lol. I've learned a few things since making that video and that's one of the corrections I would go back and make. lately I've been getting the best results by just using the dehancer camera profile over working in DWG. Like a lot of colorists my process changes every 5 seconds lol. I'm very picky of how my image looks and I'm constantly striving to get the best film emulation. what using the camera profile helps me do is start off with a really strong contrast (which film has) and the compensate from there as opposed to working in DWG which doesn't have a strong look to begin with and so I'm missing getting a filmic contrast.

    • @The_Daliban
      @The_Daliban 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@-austinsmith thanks for the reply, yeah i just learned 10 new things since writing the comment..lol You're right. It seems that dehancer looks "best" when fed rec709 or even better directly inputting the camera in the source tab since dehancers conversion looks way different to resolve's. well i just started out on the dahncer journey(: i guess i'm gonna either have it after my cst out or input the camera profile. The manual says that you should disable CSTs when selecting the camera in the source tab. maybe somthing to try out. Ask me in 10 minutes and i wll have changed my mind again(:

      @@-austinsmith thanks for the reply, i have read a bit the manual for Dehancer, i have seen that as a source you can even select the camera model and their log and gama and work from there. You can leave me a link for one of your vids where i csn dee in detail hot to apply Dehancer to different type of footages. if its no trouble of course.

    HI BROTHER ! Where its better to put dehancer- after or before the last Rec709 [as out] CST node, especially when using the Film & Print options in the Dehancer ?

    • @-austinsmith
      @-austinsmith  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can either put dehancer before the CST to rec709 node and set it to DWG/intermediate or just use the camera profile in the dehancer plug-in to transform to rec709 with no nodes. Using the camera profile gives you more headroom, contrast, separation and saturation while using dehancer in DWG/intermediate gives you a more neutral starting point with less contrast, sat, and separation. It can help to try out both depending on the source footage. It can be really tricky to use the camera profile on shots that are very high contrast already but it’s doable. I personally like the camera profile option the best, the grain looks better to me in that mode.

    • @sidclove6788
      @sidclove6788 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      By Camera profile, u mean by clicking check profile in the options of plugin? I haven't used in that way yet.@@-austinsmith

    • @-austinsmith
      @-austinsmith  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No. So what you’ll do is set up your project as - Davinci YRGB - rec709 gamma 2.4 - Rec709-A (if you’re on a mac). Don’t create any CST’s, just apply the dehancer pro plug-in to a node and in the input selection, you’ll select your camera profile.

    • @sidclove6788

    Thanks for the detailed video about your workflow.
    I've been using dehancer for a while now but with your tips my videos finally get the vibe I was hoping for with the plugin.
    A small question on the side.
    In your cst to rec709, why are you using gamma 2.4 and not rec709a.
    I don't quite understand that yet.
    Do you render the video then also rec709 gamma2.4 or rec709 rec709a?
    Thank you and greetings

    • @-austinsmith
      @-austinsmith  ปีที่แล้ว

      No problem! I’m so glad you’re getting the vibe now with your videos! That’s awesome!
      I have the option “tag rec 709 clips as Rec709a” selected in my project settings.
      So, to my understanding that allows me to set my CST to rec709/ gamma 2.4.
      And also it doesn’t look like you can transform it to rec709/ Rec709 a. I don’t see an option there.
      I’m also learning, but that’s how I’ve come to understand it. It looks great, and when I export it, it looks the same as it did when I was grading.
      Hope this helps!
      Thank you!

    • @wearesilk.6569
      @wearesilk.6569 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That makes sense. But does that mean that you still select rec709a in your export settings right?
      Or do you also enter gamma 2.4 there?
      Unfortunately I can't find the right answers in the manual.
      Thank you for your message 👍

    • @-austinsmith
      @-austinsmith  ปีที่แล้ว

      I totally understand, it’s hard to find the right answers with so many people doing it different ways.
      But that’s Correct, you still enter rec709-a in the export settings.
      So it’s:
      Timeline color space DWG
      Output color space rec709-a

  • @laniakeasupercluster4606
    @laniakeasupercluster4606 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I’m not sure why you are setting Dehancer’s colour space to DVR WG/Rec709 when you’re in DWG (DWG/Intermediate) timeline colour space? You’re in an intermediate gamma so shouldn’t your Dehancer plug-in be set to DVR WG/Intermediate? Your CST after Dehancer then channels your colour space down to Rec709.

    • @-austinsmith
      @-austinsmith  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s correct! it’s a mistake I made but I didn’t know that at the time of making this video.
