the channel's first full year was a stormy one. They couldn't get enough funding to keep the channel on the air and the executives thought no one is watching the network until hurricane alicia caught everyone's attention around the country, keeping the weather channel on the air since.

What a horrible travel situation this was for Christmas. Thousands spent the Day at shelters along I-90 at the Erie lakeshore. Blizzard lasted all of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Highs in the minuses Fahrenheit.

The good old days, back when TWC cared about weather!

16 years after your original comment and forty years after this clip originally aired, TWC cares even less!

This is old. Dennis Smith with a mustache, and I didn’t know Rick Griffin was at TWC in the early days.

The "clicker" was a garage door opener...& that's Dennis Smith giving over the anchor duties to Charlie Welch & Rick Griffin...

TWC used that same map style for conditions deep into the '90s. I think they finally changed it in 1997. Compared to today, where they've changed it like five times since 1997. The satellite didn't change much before 2000.

Yes. Don't we wish the weather was ALL they did here in 2017?
