Yes definitely agree that some level of general discomfort is guaranteed with long days and heavy pack. And definitely adjust your straps through the day as needed! Interesting to learn the the straps don't need to be symmetrical length... I always did that for some reason. Cheers!
OUTSTANDING video, I greatly appreciate the way you showed (not just said) HOW to put the pack on and adjust the straps (in what order, as well as how much to cause a proper fit. Thank You.
Very helpful and great solutions for getting something like a real pack load. Also, it appears that your cat has no respect for you nor, presumably, for humanity. Also also I already wanted to be your friend but when you start throwing out the “groovy” and such it makes my TH-cam fandom fantasy complete. Such a good thing for REI to be supporting. Makes me proud to be a member.
I have a Flash 45 and a much more expensive cottage industry pack. I like the cottage industry pack, I LOVE the Flash 45. It just fits my back and carries so much more comfortable.
I just got a new REI flash55 in olive oil and between this video the REI virtual pack fitting appointmen i had and your other video on how to measure for a pack yourself . i got it so my pack is very comfortable . i used three cans of French Canadian pea soup and a can of crisco shortening and a hudson's bay wool blanket. i got a two thumbs up for the fit from Carlos. so far i love the pack. i accually found out that i can use the straps that hold the lid on to secure the top brain pocket to the front and use it as a chest pocket. i find the top lid works well as a chest pack. Great infrmative video Miranda
Nice, Miranda. Some really great tips and as I’ve just purchased an Osprey Atmos I now know I have to empty the larder for cans to get the fit right! Genius! 🙂 Great video editing too and really easy and interesting to watch. Good job 👍🙂
Wish i would have saw this before my trip last week. My pack was not sized right and during my 20 mile hiking trip i did some damage to my shoulders and back. Great information
I am a long waisted woman and it has been difficult to find a backpack that the hip belt actually sits on my hips and not up on my waist. Finally I found one like new at thrift store a REI ridge line frame woman medium and love it.Fits me like a glove
"Carrying a backpack is less comfortable than not carrying a backpack." Got a chuckle out of that one. Soft and grumpy people tend not to be outdoorsy, or not for long. I suspect this is also why people who work for REI are often super chill, peak outdoorsy-ness. I'm comfortable just wandering around the store even if I don't have anything specific to get, there and home improvement stores. More than stuff, it is a means to possibilities, to adventure.
Funny thing is, for her comments about comfort, Miranda straps on a backpack that is twice the size and weight of this one in another video and looked even more comfortable.
If, somehow, you’re not a fan of campfire patina use something like Cameo or Barkeepers Friend when you get home. For me and my camp cookware I figure if the outside isn’t rubbing off on me or my pack the. it’s sufficiently clean plus I don’t look like noob.
I feel like a lot of weight is still on my shoulders and always seem to have a gap on top of my shoulders. No matter what I do it doesn't seem to fit right lol 😢 I have an adjustable torso bag so I'm not sure if I have that part wrong and that's why
A different video on fitting a pack said there should be a gap between the shoulder straps and the top rear of the shoulder. They said the standard rule is two fingers of space. I didn't see the space when you fitted yours. What are your thoughts on that? I think it might have been Hike Oregon's video, I can't remember now.
Great question. The way I learned was that you should be able to slide two fingers between your straps and the top of your shoulder as an indicator that you don't have too much weight resting on your shoulders. I'd say be cautious of intentionally leaving a gap, as this can create a pain point on the front of your shoulders. It's definitely a balancing act! - Miranda
I need some help how do I get rid of the space between my shoulder and top part of the strap? You referred to it as "puckering" but its just like a triangular space....what if your shoulder strap won't lie flat on your shoulder? Miranda heeeeelp
The sad thing is if your on a budget you can't buy a brand new pack from REI and find the fitting instructions online like the nice pack I picked up from a yard sale it's a few years old and a discontinued model so finding any info on it is next to impossible.
Miranda need help, I opened cans in pack and now pack is California Baja Burrito. HOW DO I CLEAN PACK MIRANDA, PACK HAS TOO MANY CALORIES IN IT I CANT EAT ALL
Miranda your cat has disappeared at 2:35 . Please confirm you have since found cat. He appeared to fall into space-time anomaly. NOT GOOD FOR CATS, SPACE-TIME ONLY FOR SUBATOMIC PARTICLES NOT CATS
We alerted Miranda to your observation! Here's her response "CAT HAS BEEN LOCATED. Cat did fall into space-time anomaly but came back for pets and catnip. Cat is now safely sleeping in a box and thanks you for your concern."
I really enjoyed watching your cat teleport around the room. : )

We need to see more of that cat
I’ve been hiking over to my pantry a lot lately. I miss you REI.
We miss you too (and can relate). Take care and be well, Cord!

Bought my first backpacking pack during quarantine so this is incredibly helpful given I haven't been able to go into an REI! Much appreciated.
It's uncanny how informative you are...
Oh, there is nothing like a good pun, and that was nothing like a good bun.... (to steal a line from the film Mary Poppins)....
Miranda for the win! She’s great with teaching/presenting! Happy and safe 4th of July! 🇺🇸

Hi Miranda. thanks for the great tips on adjusting you backpack. Something that I was never really sure I was doing correctly.👍
Thumbs up for that power belch!
I love watching these! Wow just bought that Flash45 online a few weeks ago and it's great as my first pack!!!❤

Love to hear this!
Have you ever taken that cat camping with you? I've been thinking of taking my baby girl.
Here's something that may help as you consider the possibilities. Happy trails! bit.ly/2ZrEclF
Oscar!!! Doing GREAT Girl!
I wonder what the straps on top of the shoulders straps were for very informative thank you going to do this now
I’d love to see a layered sleeping system for an ultra light pack. I’m hoping to do the PCT next year if Covid cooperates.
At 6:35 subscribed immediately 😆

I have exactly the same cat.
Please do a how to clean camp cookware video, especially after its cover with black smoke, thanks

I usually use clothes and find the pack to become too heavy before it’s too full… winter clothes are freaking heavy
its easy...if I read REI/Miranda on a video...im in....
2:35 Has your 🐈 got superpowers?

The best time to do "the backpack shuffle" is always at home... on the trail it's an unwieldy dance

@@rei Thank you Miranda and Cat
cool! but 2lb 9oz doesn't equal 2.9 lb
I love women who burp without shame.
Do you have tummy problems? Just wondering, I've never heard someone burp so much and I have a teenage boy!
Huge mistake letting Miranda leave REI... Huge!
Miranda is a cutie. 🤓
