I remember this game , George Mira struggled in the first half .During the off season, 71-72 Earl Morrall was cut by the Colts. Shula claimed him off the waiver wire. That was probably one of the best moves Coach Shula ever made

I understand Chuck Noll had to talk Mel Blount off the ledge after Warfield humiliated him in this tilt with three receptions for 186 yards and three touchdowns.

He was a homerun hitter, that the defense had to account for on every play opening up great running attacks for the Browns and Dolphins, who won their LAST championships with him on the roster ...

The next year the undefeated 14-0 Dolphins had to play the 11-3 Steelers in Pittsburgh in the AFC Championship. How ridiculous.

Cool video,Dolphins were hitting their championship stride and the Steelers were still a few pieces shy of that 74 team. There were some soon to be HOF coming to the Steelers over the next 3 and 4 years that were still in college at this time. Alas, i was a Viking fan and my Vikes got crushed by both these teams in the ........ah crap why relive that again. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Great game ... both Bradshaw and Griese were on-target. Dave Smith should have been a star and Warfield left the great Mel Blount in the dust.
He would do the same thing to Emmitt Thomas of the Chiefs and Charlie Stukes of the Colts in the playoffs. Only the Cowboys neutralized him with double and even triple coverage ...

I’m surprised the Dolphins didn’t make the Pittsburgh Steelers wear their Home Blacks in the middle of the Florida Heat.
If I do recall, in the 1973 AFC Championship Game played in Miami the Raiders had to wear their Home Blacks in 80 degree temperature during the game.

I"m also surprised that the Orange Bowl had artificial turf back then. Players would describe playing on Astro-turf as playing on carpet over concrete. Almost unimaginable by today's standards.

From what I understood, playing on Artificial Turf only made the field temperature 30 degrees hotter than what the weather actually was during game time.
So when you are playing a game in 80 degree temperatures, it feels more like 110 when you are actually on the field. Imagine if the Steelers did wear their Home Blacks during this game, I bet you anything Miami would have easily defeated the Steelers. Why do believe the Dolphins always wore their Whites when they were at Home? That Florida Heat can be stifling!

The Steelers were an awful team in 1969, a bad team in 1970, an average team in 1971, and a very good team in 1972......draft picks, patience, good coaching, and good fortune all contributed to their metamorphosis.

    • @martinfelsenfeld6012

They did wear names on the white uniforms, but the names were in a single color yellow and hard to read. Pittsburgh at that time was just learning how to win! But they would be one of the NFL's best teams in the 70's and somebody named Franco Harris would do just that. So would Lynn Swann and Mean Joe Greene, and some quarterback named Terry Bradshaw! But 1971 belonged to Miami until they played Dallas in the Super Bowl.

@@westarsatelliteservices2428 The Steelers did not make the playoffs in 1970, they went 5-9. Terry Bradshaw and Terry Hanratty combined for 11 TD passes and 32 INT's. They didn't make the playoffs until 1972, two years later. If you don't know that, it's easy enough to look up.
