Queen have 2 great albums. Lots of fluff and annoying songs. Beatles, stones, who, kinks, pink floyd, yes, Led zeppelin, deep purple, black sabbath, iron maiden, judas priest: all are way better than Queen. Way more better bands too. Most overrated band in history. Queen have lots I love but did nothing new.
Freddie was a classically trained pianist and grew up surrounded by classical music. The operetta section ( staccato with Scaramouche!) is directly influenced by the great English operetta composers, Gilbert and Sullivan. Their works were filled with humor and killer rhymes! This is why a broad exposure to all kinds of music is the best- you have so much to draw from with your own songwriting!
There is an entire documentary on how Freddie wrote this song and how Queen put it together in the studio--very interesting--this was all recorded "old school" so it wasn't easy. Also anything from the Montreal and Wembley concerts are great live performances but to really see what one of the concerts was like you need to watch it in it's entirety not chopped up. There was no down time between songs--just so much energy--you feel like you were there.
During the operatic part of the song, Queen would walk off stage. The reason being that that part of the song was a pure studio creation, and really couldn't be creditably reproduced in concert.
As always, I love the journey you have taken on all styles and times of music through the years. Reactions and reviews without bias. Amazing input, guys. Thanks for keeping it fresh and interesting for all the fans.
Queen is one of three acts I regret not seeing live. However, I was possibly one of the first in my school to hear of the band, and they freakin' blew my mind.
Everything from this show is incredible. If you want a vocal and performance masterclass "Somebody to Love" from this same show Montreal 1981, will blow your music socks off !
Enjoy the 'Queen Rabbit hole' One of the reasons their standard is so high is because all members could write hit songs, and they did. They were the first band to be inducted into the Songwriter's Hall of Fame in 2001.
This was about the same time that I saw them in Detroit. STILL the best show I ever saw...They use tape loops for the Operatic section, sounds amazing live!
I thoroughly enjoy both of your thoughtful reactions and discussion. I’ve been a guitarist for 20 years and I’ve gotten to watch you react to and analyze some of my favorite music ever (e.g., The Wall) but I’ve also gotten to experience some great music with you that was entirely new to me. Keep up the great work 👍
I saw them on this tour at Madison Square Garden in September 1980. Amazing show! Every song from this concert is epic. This is about halfway through the show, you can tell as Freddie is slowly undressing. By the end he's barefoot and in shorts.
Hey, kids.. of COURSE they could not do the "opera" section live.. I saw them during this period... they're catching their breath while the tape plays... and watch how they come out! This is widely considered one of their best live performances.. EVERY song is fantastic.. I hope you react to more..
Freddie wrote all of the lyrics himself. Fun fact: Queen spent days overdubbing the vocals in the studio using a 24-track tape machine. The analog recording technology was taxed by the song's multitracked scaramouches and fandangos: by the time they were done, about 180 tracks were layered together and "bounced" down into sub-mixes.
It's a rock opera says this person who admits not knowing what a rock opera IS. The Queen band says Freddie had this composition of his, a masterpiece done ... lyrics and music ... when Freddie brought it to them. The four of them and crew worked several weeks to record what he had on paper. . . and what he played for them. Queen, a magnificent team. Truly, them and each Legendary. Of course Thanks much for your attention to this.
Without a doubt the best front man of all time with maybe the best band of all time and before anyone jumps on me creatively and technically superior to most who have come before or after and in terms of musically well ahead of there time
Is it me or did this start in the middle somewhere? The OG video starts out with an entirely awesome harmonization section......then Freddie with the beginning of this video....
There has been much reacted to w/Queen and Freddie, no one here needs to be told how amazing he is....but lots of stuff reacted to focuses on much of the same stuff.... Chanced on something different than what you usually here, but amazing. Freddy singing in an opera. Really. With a woman legit opera singer woman counterpart with an amazing voice. Very much worth checking out, I've heard lots of Queen over the years, somehow missed this. Freddie Mercury & Montserrat Caballé - Barcelona (Live at Ku Club Ibiza, 1987)

I am generally not a big fan of this song live unless I am actually in the crowd, I prefer the layered harmonies of the studio version but Queen has so much energy on stage that it comes through even on video and pulls me in. Thank you for your reactions.
If given a choice I would prefer to listen their music live. There’s always a difference between what’s being played on the album and what they are playing to an audience. Because it wasn’t a concert, it was a show. But the next 2 days afterwards you still knew it was loud because of the ringing in your ears. If I remember correctly, Bohemian Rhapsody in 1981 was the last song performed, God Save the Queen closed the show.
@@vespoint That was what they worked out when fans craved hearing the masterpiece in concert. So with lighting and smoke, etc. the taped highly overdubbed music on the track was shared quite effectively with Concert goers...their energetic, fiery, musical return to the stage wowed everyone.

Should do their whole Live Aid Set 1985. One of the greatest guest sets ever. Maybe the best.
20 minutes that changed music
Queen live anytime is always something special!!! 😊
Four fabulous musicians with beautiful voices. 😊😊😊

It seems like they played that middle part from the album and then came back live again.
They’ve always done that. Or at least they have since I first saw them in 1977 💕
BINGO
After watching the movie , this song hits different😔 R.I.P King !💯🕊
There is PLENTY to experience from this concert in Canada.

Queen is majestic and they Rule 😊 Great reaction. There are hundreds more songs by Queen you will enjoy reacting to 👑✌🏼🥰
My Queen songs stops at about 5 or 6. Quite a charismatic lead man, and a good band with a few solid hits.
They just don't make em like they use to.
Indeed, nothing compares
Especialy to queen
So true!
Their will never be another Freddie
What a performance!
You really need to do more Queen, All of their music is great. Their live music is the greatest.
I have seen dozens of live shows. Freddie Mercury was far and away the best front man of all. Could not take your eyes off of him. Amazing.
Third part is the headbanging
Fantastic band great front man
You should see the Whole show from which this performance is taken from and you would be amazed by the total package
Somebody to love-that’s really exceptional ❤️🎶❤️
Pretty much perfect.
Consistently considered the best rock song ever written.
Queen are among the gods of Rock n' Roll!!!

Queen Live Aid 1985 worth the 20 minutes

This concert video was taped over two consecutive nights. I'm lucky enough to have been at both

Other than what others have suggested...."Stone Cold Crazy" and "Sheer Heart Attack".
Freddie. 👍❤🤙
