- Join me as we embark Emerald Liberte in Arles ahead of a river cruise along the Rhone. I was invited by Emerald Waterways to join them on the cruise, it was INCREDIBLE. (I was not paid and Emerald Waterways have no control over content that I produce). This was my first river cruise and I learnt so much.

Itinerary: Arles to Lyon, Cruising on the Rhone River.
Emerald Waterways Day 1: Gatwick (UK) - Arles (FR)
I got up at 4.30am today to catch my early morning flight to Marseille. We were met by a transfer which took us to Arles where we boarded the ship. The Emerald Waterways cruise fare includes things like the tips of people who 'porter' your bags so you don't have to worry about anything like that which is awesome. The bags were taken from the coach to the ship for us and arrived in our cabin, taadaa!
The document holders below and booklets are sent to all Emerald Waterways guests a few weeks before the cruise. You'll also get an Emerald Waterways backpack. I met a lady onboard who said she had 6!
Orientation Tour of Arles
When we arrived we had a little bit of time to unpack (not long) before we headed out on an orientation tour with the activities manager Drazen. It was great to get an overview of Arles which we will be exploring more tomorrow. There is quite a busy schedule of things going on during this cruise but of course, everything is optional!
Welcome Presentation
Before dinner, there was a welcome talk which told us all about river cruise life and about the excursions that will be happening. As a river cruise newbie, this was SO helpful. It went on for 50 minutes!!
Dinner
What I loved about dinner is that there is no set seating, you show up and sit wherever you'd like. Easy peasy! The food looks like it should be in a really really high-end restaurant. It's all yummy and the presentation of it is incredible. The speed of service is really impressive too, they've clearly perfected this art!
My overall impressions is that I could get used to this... all of the other guests and crew are really really friendly and the ship is SO cool.

I don;t do river cruises too often as I kind of like the larger Broadway shows on an ocean cruise but they sure are very relaxing and a great cruise to unwind from the world.
River cruising will never replace the big ships for me. I totally love them. So many things I prefer about river though! Not being in a city with 5000 other tourists is a big perk haha.

I’m so missing the Liberte... we did the Lyon to Nice cruise late last year. Cabin 216. Fabulous... loved the spiral staircase up the back, linking you to all areas. ... loved the pool area. ...

Ahh yes! I'm missing her so much too and only got off on Saturday ha ha. The bbq on the top deck was one of my favourite parts. Oh and the chocolate samples in the factory haha! Thanks for commenting. Glad you enjoyed it too 😁👍🏼

I was booked on AMA Waterways on Rhine River; but it cancelled due to Coronavirus; This would have been first river cruise; we will wait till things settle down before we book again
Have you ever been on a RIVER cruise that included as part of its schedule a stop somewhere with clean water and lots of wildlife and SWIM and snorkel in the water?

On a Viking river cruise that’s a French Window room. The access to the bathroom is slightly different with the wardrobe at the door end rather than the window.
I'm jealous, looks fab. Maybe we should look at a river cruise for our next family cruise together

We went on a Cunard Med cruise. I have a fish and seafood allergy. They brought me the next days menu so i could order what i wanted, so i wasn’t restricted. The people we were sat to dine with all asked if they had fish would it affect me. You do get looked after if you have any type of allergy. Nice video. Have you or are you going to do the Mosel?

Brilliant video Emma and I really enjoyed reading your cruise review and daily diary. When I've received brochures through the door the river cruises always seem more expensive than ocean cruises. I'd be interested in your thoughts about the cost.
Hey Angela! They are more expensive initially but I came off the cruise with a £0 bill!!! It definitely is a luxury experience, can't really compare it to the budget cruising I usually do ha ha... 😁❤️

Hey Nathan, not at all. Straight on the bus to Arles to board the ship. I've been to Marseille before though and Arles was much much much nicer in my opinion haha. Have you ever been to either? 😁❤️
I've been to Marseille as my cousin lives there. It kick-started a love of France which persists to the present day.

The only thing with those drop window balconies, how would you go on an ocean cruise when it is nearly always very windy? A danger of your things being blown around the room?
Haha! Might be. Celebrity Edge has a balcony like this but haven't tried it out yet. Definitely no wind worries on the river haha 😂💕
Ooo. I saw those little checker board cookies you like at the end of the video! Quick question... it looked like your ship was the only one docked. Was this always the case? I’d heard you’re often rafted up with other boats. ( Or ships... do they call them boats or ships on a river cruise?)
Hey Anne! We actually only had one day out of 7 where we were rafted. We were rafted in the morning when we went on our tour, when we came back the other ships had gone.. Then another parked next to us in the evening. I think it's quite fun but do understand why people get annoyed haha 😂 ❤️

I don’t think it would stop me from going. I’m guessing it might depend somewhat on the itinerary and the time of year.
@@annegreen4141 Yeah I think so! It isn't ideal and is weird when another ship comes up right next to your cabin. Definitely different happen enough for it to annoy me though. But there are busier rivers than the Rhone so might be worse other places...

I did yep! It was all organised by Emerald so if the flight was delayed they would have waited. Only about 100 passengers in total 😁👍🏼
Love your blogs, but is there anyway you can put them together? In blocks of your holidays I can watch 2,3 or 4 then can't find the rest. Don't think I'm explaining myself properly so hope you understand. Every one does the same and I don't understand why. 😜😜 Would make easier to find different holidays, cruise ships in one little bundle of videos.
