In this lesson I want to show you 8 things you need to know to solo in a position. You don't need to be all over the neck the play a good dynamic solo. I'm doing this solo over a I-IV-V progression in G. I'm using a handful of tools to help me see chord shapes, arpeggios, triads and common scales in a position.

This hit me at the perfect time... I figured it was a lesson that was years old and I look and see it was done 12 hours ago... well done sir, people like you are honestly unsung heroes in the guitar community
Ha same, I came across Jason through Truefire and just started catching up on content on TH-cam. Honestly, wouldn't have noticed had I not read your comment.
Excellent lesson! Thanks so much for doing it in the key of G, which is the most common key! So many videos are geared around the key of C which means I have to transpose everything before I start working on learning the lesson in a form that is useful to me, being that the key of G is so common in country music
Hey Jason, thank you so much for this incredible breakdown. I'm a self taught guitarist and I've been doing gigs recently that really want me to step out as a lead guitarist. I have to admit, my crux is solos and I've been trying to work on that. Solos feel like a momentary thing when you're trying to make up something on the spot, especially in front of a crowd! I'm not necessarily a country guitar player but this and many of your videos filled a lot of gaps in my pursuit of music! Always learning...Thanks again.
So many songs, like the great old country songs, have that 1...4...5...progression . Thankfully I play and sing those songs but only play rhythm. Great place to start learning lead ❤❤❤❤ thank you!!!!
Now we know why Jason sounds so good. He has mastered the mechanics of chord progressions. And, he has ALL that stuff in his head & fingers in real time. Automatic. Almost no thought delays. Truly an ability for a guitarist to strive for.
I will try to add my suggestion that may possibly speed your learning. Get a cheap electronic keyboard. Start @ middle "C" & learn (play) all the major chords up the chromatic scale to the next "C". (C, E, G), (C#, F, G#), (D, F#, A), etc. Say the notes as you are playing them. This will greatly help your recognition of the root, third, and fifth of the chords when you play them on guitar. The keyboard is linear, unlike a guitar. You can "see" the chord components & their relationship to each other. You will also "see" the second, flat third, flat fifth, sixth, and flat seventh much easier.
It also helps to know the component intervals in a scale. Whole steps & half steps. For the major scale, it's (W, W, H, W, W, W, H). Again easy to "see" (and hence memorize) on the keyboard. Will then not be so mysterious when played on your guitar.
Thank you, Jason. Subscribed.
That is a great lesson...but lordy I struggle with mastering these intervals ...naming them I mean..
Awesome Jason!!
Thank you !!
Thank you Jason... Great stuff
Great sound and touch Jason👍
EXCELLENT!!!! EXCELLENT!!!! EXCELLENT!!!❤❤❤ you are the BOSS...thank you for YOU!!!!❤❤❤
Good stuff Jason!
Thanks David
This is the next step I have been looking for without knowing what to look for for YEARS. Thank you so much 🙏
Happy you dug it
Wow! Awesome, Jason!!! 🎸🎶👍
You're a good man, Jason Loughlin.
Thanks man
Man , you are such a great guitar player and know so many styles which I like so much.
I don't think I have heard on TH-cam a better guitar player in the styles you present .
There must be a lot of ( famous ) bands who want you to play with them.
So , do you only teach or do you also studio work or/and playing in bands ?
( from the Netherlands ) 👋👋👋
Thank you for those kind words. I’ve spent my whole life as a performing and studio guitarist. Lots of touring and lots of session work. But I’ve been teaching and taking teaching seriously since I was 19 years old. I’ve leaned into it a lot more over this last year because there’s just not much money in the music business anymore
@@JasonLoughlinMusic Thnx for taking the effort to answer me . Smart move you made with that decision altough I can imagine you mis performing and studio work?
Anyway , you are my favorite guitar player on TH-cam !!
thanks man. I still do a lot of performing and a few sessions a month
@@JasonLoughlinMusic One question : do you also have lessons about your right hand technique ? ( with pick and fingers the same time ) It makes a ton of difference to play those country lick in a faster way .
awesome! is there a PDF for the solo you play at 1:10?
It will be available on my subscription site later this summer
