Imo Mortal Kombat is the best. This one is not too bad, but I can see myself loving MK without playing the games, while this one requires knowledge with the game or it'll be a fairly whatever movie.
what critics don't understand, that sometimes we want to watch a movie that is only about action and adventure, and I don't care it makes no sense to others, the fighting scenes, the exploration, the puzzles, ancient artifacts, that atmosphere...we who actually grew up in the 90s and player Tomb Raider on PS, wanted that world recreated, and that is exactly what we got. I think it's kind of amazing how we get introduced to Indiana Jones in the 80's, the Mummy films with Brenden Fraiser in the 90's, and then the Lara Croft movie daulogy in the early 2000's.
This movie is a perfect execution of what it's meant to be. John Wick asks you to suspend belief for a weak payoff but this gives you so much style and magical bombasticness.
im 17 and i just bought the tomb raider remastered trlogy and so far i just finished the greece section and am now in egypt in the first tomb raider game. God this game is a blast once you get used to the tank controls, which imo arent even as clunky as ppl say they are.
I went to see Lara Croft: Tomb Raider at the cinema with my late grandfather Fred. Such a great movie. Angelina Jolie was an awesome Lara Croft. She was perfectly cast as the awesome iconic video game protagonist.
0:03 classic line! That is sooooo Lara. I remember seeing that clip over and over on commercials for the movie back in 2001. It's one of the few lines I remember from the movie.
Jon Voights performance in Anaconda is literally the single best thing about that film, His performance literally elevates that film to cult status, Without him the movie wouldn’t be ever worth watching again
TBH, I can't remember what the other actors did or said in that movie, except for Jon Voight being such a badass villain and a few of his lines from the movie, he stood out amongst the others that much.
Last year I saw a bunch of people on Twitter saying how Alicia Vikander was a much better Lara Croft than Angelina Jolie because "she's actually a good actress and wasn't casted because she's sexy, much like how old Lara sucks and new Lara RULES!!" It's because of people like this why I refuse to play the reboot series. Also, yeah, uh, which movie actually made enough money to get a sequel? Spoiler: Not the Vikander one!
Both worked hard on their performances but twitter just simply hates naturally pretty women and therefore disregard Angelina. Also they basically love to hate actually good products and actually strong women.
Newsflash: Lara Croft was always meant to be sexy. I think a lot of people deny it for some reason, but Lara being sexy just happened to be a part of who she was as a character since the very beginning. She sure as hell wasn’t meant to be innocent or demure. Did that sexual appeal negate her incredible intellect, resourcefulness and overall cool factor? Not at all. As a little girl, I was over the damn moon when I got to play as Lara. Wanted to be like her. Also, twitter loves putting women against each other. Which is also completely ironic. Both women gave their all in their performances, but the numbers don’t lie and we know which Lara most of us like more.
Angelina knew what it meant to be Lara Croft, and the effort, dedication, and downright passion for the character really shines through this movie. This was certainly not a throw away role, and I'd go as far to say that this film inspired Tomb Raider Legend down the road, making it one of the best in the series to date. Underneath the film, the keyword is FUN!!
The Mummy, Tomb Raider, I miss this era of movies. Just good fun. No political messaging or "deep underlying meanings", but adventure and humor from start to end.
I'm playing the remasters too and was inspired to indulge in a movie and pizza night with this film 😁🎞📽. Crazy thing is my opinion of this flick hasn't changed AT ALL since it was first released. It's not faithful to Lara's back story and takes major liberties with the source material. But it's just balls out fun; a rollercoaster ride from start to finish which retains enough personality from the games to justify its existence. Jolie absolutely nails the role and the supporting cast are all fun and interesting too. It's no cinematic masterpiece but it's fun and memorable in a way that few films of the genre manage. WATCH THIS MOVIE! 😃👍
Literally my favorite movie ever made, there is so much adventure, action, crazy artifact, it’s light but deep towards the end, it’s truly perfect in every way for me. The quality to me is phenomenal and as a tomb raider fan I’m so happy my girl was done Justice. The most successful female video game franchise (95 million units sold) DESERVED such an iconic film!
So good to see someone acknowledging how cool this movie is ❤ it's a classic ! Perfect casting. Real stunts. The games are respected yet they brought new cool stuff. And then the games were inspired by the movies ! 😀
A brilliant fun movie that's part of my childhood...Angelina Jolie was such a perfect choice for this movie, And I realised that people didn't understand who the spirit girl was who appeared in the present of Lara in a couple of scenes...but as I'm an artist and see these puzzling things the spirit girl was a spirit guide who was sent by her father from the afterlife in order to guide her...and with a nice little touch before the spirit girl leaves Lara's present the spirit leaves behind the jasmine flowers for Lara to let her know that her father is in her present and helping to guide her...and you know the Jasmine flowers were indeed sent by her father from the afterlife because we saw the scene at the beginning where Lara place the flowers on her fathers grave and also see the flowers in the present of her father in flashback scenes.
I've always hated it when people say there are no good video game movies. There are plenty of good ones is all you want is some fun on a Friday night eating a big tub of popcorn.
I've actually never heard someone reject 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder' before. I'm not sure i agree right off the bat but it's definitely an interesting thought experiment to ask what the implications would be if beauty was objective. There is a good amount of evidence suggesting that there are universally beautiful things (even if some people hate them because of their beauty). Of course, the nature of something's beauty is a very case by case specific thing
I think that fit=beauty is the most universal standard. Yes women can be more pouchy due to the role of being a mother. But in the end we are still inthe bodies of stone age people tryingto survive. Diving into kinks can be dangrous but interesting, too.
@BlackCroft666 That's why I like Alicia Vikander's Lara. She may have been flat chested, but it certainly can't be denied that she was very fit in the role.
I really enjoy both Jolie Tomb Raider movies. I may like the second more overall, but the first one's got a lot of good stuff in it, including one of my favorite line deliveries from Jolie toward the end ("I just woke up this morning and HATED everything."). To me, the original era IS Tomb Raider. I don't have anything against those that prefer the more grounded, modern era, but I simply couldn't connect with it. I guess I just wanted to have a badass lady dual-wield pistols, kick ass, solve puzzles and find archeological artifacts.
I don't enjoy the "survivor trilogy" either. Doesn't have much to do with Tomb Raider at all. Where's the dual guns? The exploration of archaeological sites? I bored out halfway into the second game and haven't continued since...
Loved this review! TR has been my favorite franchise since I was a kid, and people are pretty often harsh on it these days, so it was really nice hearing all your kind words about it! I really miss the cool, edgy, and attitude laden games of the 90s, I hope that comes back in style someday!

Tomb Raider movies are absolutely cool movies. Jolie was made to play Lady Croft & any fans of the old school Lara owe it to themselves to give them a watch and enjoy the show
Loved this film as a kid and will so be spending my valentines day playing the remastered games, although I still have the originals and a ps1 if I felt like setting it up. Pity the second one wasn't as good and that they never made a trilogy.
Fun Fact: Angelina Jolie's Lara Croft in the 1st *"Tomb Raider"* film was dubbed by three voice actresses in Japan: • Rika Fukami (who was the original voice of Minako Aino/Sailor Venus in the original 90s *"Sailor Moon"* anime and its film trilogy) for the film's 2005 TV Asahi edition. She returned to dub for Lara in the 2nd film for its 2006 TV Asahi edition. • Yumiko Shaku (who played JXSDF Lt. Akane Yashiro in the two Kiryu films in the *"GODZILLA"* Millennium series) for the film's 2004 Fuji TV edition. • Atsuko Yuya (who also dubbed for Natasha Henstridge in the first three *"SPECIES"* films and Sunny Mabrey for the 3rd film) for the DVD edition. She returned to dub for Lara in the 2nd film for its DVD edition. Both Atsuko & Rika also dubbed for Angelina Jolie in the two Japanese dubs of *"Mr. & Mrs. Smith".* Rika for the 2008 TV Asahi edition and Atsuko for the DVD edition.
I liked this movie and the kick ass theme song, "Elevation" by Irish rock band U2. The sequel wasn't a box office success, making $160 million dollars against a $95 million dollar budget, thus killing any chances of a third film. In 2018, a reboot starring Alicia Vikander, was released. It was going to have a sequel, but in January 2022, it was cancelled as the contract with MGM expired, and Alicia Vikander stepped down from the project. Another reboot was announced, this time, it's going to be the start of a shared universe.
Taking bout shared universe, comic version of Tomb Raider in late 90's/ early 2000s were a part of Image/Top Cow universe, alongside Top Cow characters such as Witchblade & Darkness, also had a series of limited series crossover between Witchblade, Fathom & Tomb Raider.
Nice video. When you mentioned Sonic the Hedgehog was in the year of edgy and extreme attitude, it got me focused on this year since many fans have said that 2024 is the year of Shadow the Hedgehog.
As a non Sonic fan, Shadow comes across to me as cringey, like his creators were trying too hard to make him a badass, such as giving him guns in his game, giving him a human love interest lol...I don't know, maybe it's the series in general.
Now if only Crystal Dynamics would embrace the old Lara Croft for how cool and amazing she was and stop trying to push the survival trilogy reboot Lara. The only reason we are getting the remasters of the originals is because Embracer Group (current owners of the IP) pushed for it to happen.
That will never happen. I guesss even the people from Legend, Anniversary and Underworld are no longer around anymore considering what they publish now.
I believe most film critics hardly played Tomb Raider game & had ridiculous expectations on film mostly on Angelina Jolie's choice of role rather the adaptation from the game. Also many should look out for Tomb Raider comic book during late 90s/early 2000s under Top Cow/Image Comics, as Lara Croft was part of one badass comic book universe with Witchblade & Darkness.
Jolie has been perfectly cast twice: Tomb Raider and Maleficent. Say what you will about the films where she plays the character but she was always perfect.
They Combine Cores and Crystal Dynamics OG Lara Croft's and made them one! I cant believe this movie is Already 23 Years old. Im 27 now and remember this to be my Favorite Childhood Movie! I had them both on DVD back then! till today, Angelina Jolie ist still one of my most Favorite Actors, she never failed that!
Oh just to correct this, crystal dynamics based their first reboot Tomb Raider legend on both the tomb raider films and classic lara Crystal dynamics didn’t release a tomb raider game until 2006. This was their first reboot series which spawned 5 games and they rebooted tomb raider again in 2013
Keep the Dragoncurve coming Klayton. This film for me quite a guilty pleasure movie. Its entertaining bad its good, although who can say no to Jolie crazy Lara croft.
Martin Luther said something like second to theology music is a beautiful thing. Blessings on your Ash Wednesday Klayton! And great movie pic-one of the best VG movies and Jolie could do the moves like Croft herself
This movie was my teenage years. I was 12 when it came out and I had NEVER played a Tomb Raider game at that point. Even my mom loved it! This past November, I played Tomb Raider 2013 (my first TR game) and I enjoyed it so much that I went on to play Rise of the Tomb Raider, Tomb Raider: Anniversary and Tomb Raider: Legend. I also recently started playthroughs for Tomb Raider: Underworld, Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness and Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Tomb Raider: Legend is HANDS DOWN my favorite in the series, so far. I hope the games go back to the classic style in some way merged with the “Survivor Trilogy” and I hope if we get another movie, it will be more similar to the Angelina Jolie movies.
Im surprised you didn't mention the Legend series and Underworld cause those games took a lot of inspiration of these movies. From Lara herself the mannerism personality and the locations also. I always rewatch these 2 movies and play those 2 games every year. Easily the best version of Lara Croft
Love tomb raider, played all the games, and im very happy that finally we are going to see lara croft return in the next tr game, because im tired of reboot lara honestly. Really loved the movie, and can't wait to play the remasters!!! Great vid!
sadly we will never see a third part, i would liked to see more acrobating shooting and jumping on the second part but thast me awsome movie game from past
Just only if the third did happen they should had made the third more unique that's like a loose continuation that's R-rated which would lead it to be more darker and hardcore...and that we get to see Angelina's Lara a little more older which is a Lara that we have not seen before.
Love the bit about objective beauty, bro. Didn’t know you are a Christian, but I figured as much when you spoke about beauty being objective haha I love philosophy. God bless 🙏 Oh, and this film is still so much corny fun. Love it!
Fantastic movie. I saw this in theaters and while there was a thunderstorm outside, adding to the epicness. Either boy or girl, you wanted to grow up to be Laura Croft!
Tomb Raider was my first PS1 game, when I was a kid. It was so captivating to have these dangerous, Indiana Jones style adventures in 3D! I've loved the series ever since. I often vacillate how I feel about the movie though. The movie is outrageous, early 2000's cheesy, but fun when it's doing things well. I think the difference between the movie and the games is, the movie plays a lot like how the games were advertised back in the day, versus the actual experience playing the games, which is slower, more methodical and atmospheric. Where the movie loses me is when they reach that spinning globe thing. I just tune out then. It's a shame. It fizzles out for me just after the end of the second act in that big tomb action set piece with the statue coming to life, which was pretty great and very Tomb Raider! I wish they could have made that set piece the third act finale instead somehow. I'd also say that I wish there was more to the villain to make him memorable, personable or charismatic. Seriously, Natla, the villain from the first game, had more personality than him, and she only had a few short cut scenes in the game!
I used to love that movie... Jolie was born for this role and guys... the OST... it's flawless. I wish tomb raider 2 was in the same vibe, I mean it was ok but i prefer this one
Just be glad that Uwe Boll wasn’t attached to direct either movies. Can you imagine how much of a garbage it would’ve been if he was the director? Just look at his attempt with Blood Rayne, Alone in the Dark, and others.
Hmm I didn't like it much when it came out. But I did really like the other Tomb Raider they made 15 years later. It's been 20 years though so maybe I should check it out again!
Everything said here is how I felt first watching this (and cradle of life). With the material they had, where Lara Croft was in gaming, this was executed very well. I remember also watching the auto bonus features on the vhs and watching Angelina Jolie's preparation for the role being a real point where I got my first insight to working as an actor and wanting to pursue it, yeah she could have prepared in the traditional way, she looked the part, prepped mannerisms etc, but she went the extra mile and then some. She learned to drive and perform stunts on horses, bikes etc, she utalised aerial gymnastics, she physically increased her stamina, she attended yoga and spiritual enlightenment, researched specifics on world cultures, firearms training. One of the few she wasn't allowed to do was when it was something extensively dangerous and specific like aerial shots during the bass jumping scene in cradle of life.
I think this film worked in the same way the Resident Evil series worked. It took aspects and characters from the franchise and went on it's own journey, whereas the 2018(?) Tomb Raider tried to copy the 2013 game too closely to work completely for me. Same with the Silent Hill films, 1 worked because of the above reasons, 2 tried to be the third game on screen and failed.
Jolie was absolutely the perfect real life Lara Croft. This was, and still is a really fun film.
Angelina Jolie in the both Tomb Raider movies is a better female protaginist then 90% of modern day female protaginists.

Another reboot was announced, this time, it's going to be the start of a shared universe.
very well said
Taking bout shared universe, comic version of Tomb Raider in late 90's/ early 2000s were a part of Image/Top Cow universe, alongside Top Cow characters such as Witchblade & Darkness, also had a series of limited series crossover between Witchblade, Fathom & Tomb Raider.
awesome job ...right on point ...your review was great ....Angelina Jolie is Lara Croft
Angelina Jolie was perfect casting.
Wayyyyy better than that trash movie they came out with in 2018.
I never saw either of the Angelina Jolie films, but I did see the reboot film, and I really enjoyed it.
Oh just to correct this, crystal dynamics based their first reboot Tomb Raider legend on both the tomb raider films and classic lara
Crystal dynamics didn’t release a tomb raider game until 2006. This was their first reboot series which spawned 5 games and they rebooted tomb raider again in 2013
You've earned a subscriber. This movie was my childhood lol
I love when you make this videos energetic with more positive energy, keep going forward man.❤❤❤❤
Definitely underrated, it could have had more tomb raiding lol but overall it was pretty perfect. Even the mansion looked pretty spot on.
Keep the Dragoncurve coming Klayton. This film for me quite a guilty pleasure movie. Its entertaining bad its good, although who can say no to Jolie crazy Lara croft.
Wasn’t the biggest fan of these movies but the games were great thanks for the video brother!
Martin Luther said something like second to theology music is a beautiful thing. Blessings on your Ash Wednesday Klayton! And great movie pic-one of the best VG movies and Jolie could do the moves like Croft herself
Never played the games when they came out in the late 90’s, but did see both movies in the theaters, even have the DVDs for them.
Lara Croft is without a doubt the sexiest female video game character of all time
Still love these movies to this day!
Agree on all fronts. One of my favorite movies of all time tbh, because it's simply so enjoyable to watch, and Angelina kills it.
The way I screamed when “waiting for tonight” came on 😅
Im surprised you didn't mention the Legend series and Underworld cause those games took a lot of inspiration of these movies. From Lara herself the mannerism personality and the locations also. I always rewatch these 2 movies and play those 2 games every year. Easily the best version of Lara Croft
We didn't get a remake of TR3 - it was a remaster.
THANK YOU!!! I’ve been telling my friends forever that footage from The Lost World was in the DX intro music video 😂😂😂😂
Angelina lucía como Lara ó Lara lucía como Angelina.
Encajó perfectamente 👍🏻
Love tomb raider, played all the games, and im very happy that finally we are going to see lara croft return in the next tr game, because im tired of reboot lara honestly. Really loved the movie, and can't wait to play the remasters!!! Great vid!
sadly we will never see a third part, i would liked to see more acrobating shooting and jumping on the second part but thast me
awsome movie game from past
Just only if the third did happen they should had made the third more unique that's like a loose continuation that's R-rated which would lead it to be more darker and hardcore...and that we get to see Angelina's Lara a little more older which is a Lara that we have not seen before.
Love the bit about objective beauty, bro. Didn’t know you are a Christian, but I figured as much when you spoke about beauty being objective haha I love philosophy. God bless 🙏
Oh, and this film is still so much corny fun. Love it!
Korn did a music video for Tomb Raider with their song "Did My Time" im not sure if it was for the first movie or the sequel
I love both the Jolie Tomb Raiders.
5:10 Now Im concerned that Im in agreement with fucking Eber who has been wrong on basicly all of his ratings.
Watched this in the cinema when it released back in the day. Great times!
This film is perfection. The only that bothers me everytime I watch is the opening scene, where she recharges her guns with a scene from Cambodia.
30 years ago six kids created Tomb Raider from 1994 to 96 as the first 3rd person 3D action-adventure ever.
Omg my favorite movie
Look at The Phantoms with Ben Affleck.
An impeccable timing, a remastered bundle of the first three games was just released. Edit: you did time this because of it, my bad.
Will you do a kingdom of the planet of the apes trailer breakdown?
Am planning to watch this movie and when are we gone to get a video about Street Fighter and Rampage?
I used to love that movie... Jolie was born for this role and guys... the OST... it's flawless. I wish tomb raider 2 was in the same vibe, I mean it was ok but i prefer this one
One of the better video game movies.
the first movie absolutely nailed it. one of the best videogame movies in my opinion.
I love this movie.
It's a bummer the sequel sucked.
Just be glad that Uwe Boll wasn’t attached to direct either movies. Can you imagine how much of a garbage it would’ve been if he was the director? Just look at his attempt with Blood Rayne, Alone in the Dark, and others.
Thanks for the video!! See you later!! Stay safe.😊
Hmm I didn't like it much when it came out. But I did really like the other Tomb Raider they made 15 years later. It's been 20 years though so maybe I should check it out again!
Angelina jolie empress is a true lara croft always and forever no other can replace herr
Still got this awesome 😎 movie on dvd 📀
I have it on DVD (Disc only), Blu-ray and VHS
I enjoy 2 as much as 1. Both were (and remain) more entertaining than they have any right to be.
I LOVED this movie. still do
I think this film worked in the same way the Resident Evil series worked.
I love this movie of Lara Croft tomb raider
Hmm, I found the first Tomb Raider film quite weird... The SECOND one on the other hand, now THAT one I like... 😄
They planned to make third movie too, after the release of AoD. But it got cancelled, A. Jolie quit or something.
She didn’t wanna do a third movie
@@isiah6713 Unfortunately, she were great as TR Lara Croft
@@kristjan830 she was great as Lara Croft I wish she did a third movie
Its certainly a gem these days.
BASED
I remember seeing this in theaters when I was 7, jesus Im old
Awesome movie for sure- does what it says on the tin and stays true to the source.
