Interesting. May be GOI & Indian Railways should think about adding Shopping Complex, Farmer's Market & hotel to these stations. Turn them into City Center for these towns/cities. Stations could b source of economic activity & could generate a separate stream of revenue for Railways.
That idea will fail. Why well these station are outside towns first. Secondary these tribal towns will have their weekly markets where farmers can sell their produce and mostly they donot need to give rent for space they occupy. Then why they will give rent to indian railway. Please realise even in developed nations. Stations are only able to utilise real estate for shopping arcade if that station has very strong commuter population.i.e in millions. I donot think think that's case in Manipur

On the other hand, it's most common that these empty building are taken over by anti social elements and business district arnd it never develops due to bad reputation. Instead let locals open shops outside railway station like it is present all over country. If they find a strong business environment developed over couple of decades near station. Then they can rework on station and create a integrated shopping center.
If we go by happy and beaming faces of passengers, they were enjoying the comfort of railway journey. Now we are waiting how much time it will take to connect the Imphal. Love from Haryana.

I ll take another 1more year to reach imphal. Currently it's up to khongsang which is 100km from.
