14 Ways to Tell Your Rabbit You Love Them

  • You absolutely love your rabbit, and you’re not afraid to show it. But all the toys, comfy beds and treats, can’t let your bunnies know how special they are to you.
In this video, we’ll show you 14 ways to tell your rabbit you love them in a language they’re sure to understand.
    Hiding Spot
Bunnies are always on the lookout for places to shelter. It makes them happy knowing there are places they can hide and feel safe. In their natural habitat, they protect themselves from predators with underground tunnels they can run into and hide.
So to show your rabbit you care for them, make them a hideout, like a wooden house in the style of a small kennel, so that they can have alone time when needed.
This will show them that you understand their needs and that you love them
    Talk to them
A study conducted by Dr. Robert Nerem found that rabbits who were talked to and received affections during the feeding time, lived healthier and longer lives than bunnies who weren’t.
This means that speaking softly with your rabbit while petting them will calm them and help them relax.
    Respect your rabbit’s nature.
Many rabbit owners dress up their bunnies or discourage them from certain inherent behaviors such as digging, chewing or eating their own droppings. This can cause anxiety and frustration.
It is important that you love your rabbits for who they are.
Pet them where they enjoy it most
Rabbits see petting as akin to grooming, which happens between two friendly bunnies. When you pet your rabbit, you’re telling them you care about them. It’s the most direct way to tell your little pet you love them.
The best places to pet rabbits are their forehead and behind their ears. They also love getting strokes down their back or around the shoulders. With that said, they dislike being touched on their bottom, feet, stomach or tail.
    Get down to their level
Rabbits are prey animals and they find anything towering over them intimating.
When you’re standing or even sitting down, your bunny can only engage with your legs. They’ll see you as a big scary creature and are more likely to be wary of you.
Instead of hovering above them as an imposing giant, bring yourself down to their level.
Sit or lay with your rabbit on the floor and let them come up to you if they want to.
    Chewing
Rabbits’ teeth will grow continuously all their lives, and they’re designed to be worn down to the right length by grinding away at food. In the wild, a rabbit’s buffet menu often includes hard vegetation such as hay, twigs, tree bark, and other material that requires lots of chewing. The extensive chewing keeps their growing teeth under control. This is why it’s important to provide your little pet with unlimited access to grass hay which they can graze on throughout the day.
    Prepare their favorite food
Although many cartoons have misconstrued that rabbits love carrots, the truth is that rabbits love bananas more. This is because rabbits love bananas more than any other fruits or vegetables in the world.
    Scent Mingling
Rabbits are territorial creatures and they love everything that smells like them.
Rabbits often mark their scent through their droppings, urine, licking, or chinning. Yes, that’s right. Rabbits have scent glands under their chins. When they rub their chin against something, a tiny amount of their specific scent is deposited on that object.
Spend time with your bunny and let them spread their scent on you and your clothing. Don’t move away when they lick you. Let them wander in and around your legs. It’s their smell that help them know you’re theirs and they will feel at ease with you.
    Keep them calm
This is the best way to tell your bunnies you love them. Rabbits are prey animals and anything unexpected will end up scaring them or putting them on alert. If you make your rabbit’s day-to-day life scheduled and expected, they will be a lot happier in their environment.
    Spend time with your rabbit
Like with any relationship, spending time together is a great way to show affection. Try not to get too distracted by the TV or your phone. Make a schedule and devote some time every day solely to your rabbit.
    Never let them go alone.
Rabbits are incredibly social animals and appreciate constant companionship. In the wild, they live in large family groups, and constantly interact with each other.
Without your interactions, rabbits can get bored, even to the point of becoming depressed.
    #3. Let your rabbit explore
Rabbits are curious creatures, and they love having the chance to explore new places and run around.
So make sure to provide your bunny a large enough space to run around and satisfy their explorative nature. You can even build a nice playground area for them. Cat tunnels are great gifts for your rabbit as they simulate their tunnels and burrowing systems. You can also use cardboard boxes to make them someplace to chew, hide and explore.

My bunny really loves it when me and my sister just sit next to him and talk to each other. It's like we're his personal podcast. He completely relaxes and goes into a loaf or a flop. Also, whenever I see my bunny eat his cecotropes, I make sure to praise him a lot. He's a senior bunny who's had his incisors removed recently so eating his cecotropes isn't as easy as it was and he sometimes leaves some laying around. So now especially, he gets lots and lots of praise when I see him eat them.

When the video said that you should go down to their level, I knew that my bunny really likes me. If I even just attempt to get up after playing with her on the floor or just petting her laying down, she stands upright and gives me a look that absolutely breaks my heart. She realised a while back that it makes me stay, so now if I try to do literally ANYTHING that is not in our room, she bullies me with that look. It is horrible, and she just makes it cuter and cuter over time 🤣

My mom has even experienced it, ESPECIALLY if she knows she is getting a treat. And when I accidentally step on one of her little feet, I feel so bad, and she doesn't even seem to care or even notice, as long as she gets her treat 🙄😂
Sometimes she runs to me if I open my cupboard door, because she loves playing in the bottom shelf with one of the old blankets I left there for her and an old leather belt, because apparently they are obsessed with anything leather 🤷‍♀️except for school shoes. But so I open my cupboard to get dressed or something, she then comes sprinting to my feet, but I have to stand still for a good minute for her to fully calm down and just go play. Otherwise she keeps on running around my feet, and then she sommer looks confused when I almost step on her or she I shoo her away 🤣like I love her to bits, but o my flippen soul she stresses me out sometimes 🤦‍♀️😂

Depends on the bunny and how much they trust YOU. I knew many very skittish bunnies who felt insecure in my lap if on their backs. Others would flip demanding a belly rub because they knew my very well and we had that trust built... but that take serious socialization and trust building efforts at the critter's pace, not mine. I do not recommend this for inexperienced bunny folks. Every animal species has personality traits and their own language you must learn to fully engage that animal in a 'convo' or to build a happy relationship.

When I got my bunny from the pet shop, one of the ladies who were working there decided to take one of the bunnies out to show us. She held the bunny on her back. She then proceeded to show me and my mom how you can "hypnotize" a rabbit by laying it on its back and rubbing their stomach in a circular manner. I almost had a bloody heart attack. I could not have been more happy to get the bunny I chose out of there. They used a water bottle as well, but the back thing was stressing me out the most. Like what even, you work at a bloody pet shop lady?????

No matter how small or big. I already forgot what dumb thing we got into it about but I know when he left the room, my bunny came from behind me, climbed up to me, all the way to my face, (I was laying down side ways w/ my back turned), all in my face, bc hes that small, as if to say you good? Now I feel kind a bad about the dog. Just kind of. Bc she might not always like the other pets & have their backs but she's a mean 1 that'll have mine. Against him too. & thats more of his dog. 😔 I wish she didn't eat the neighbors bunnies. Prob gonna take awhile for me to get over. & I bet she knows it too. He gave her a "bow, bow" for it. Ok, she got a spanking.

When I was a teenager I had a rabbit that I used to snuggle up to in bed when it was cold outside. She just sat there loving the petting and fell asleep with me for hours. She also used to feed out my hands too. She was so cute, I used to give her dandelions to eat and she loved eating them like they were the only meal she had for a whole day. Fun fact, feeding bunnies carrots regularly is actually really bad for them. They are unable to properly digest the complex starch that carrots are comprised of. My entire house is bunny proofed. My buns run free all but 3 hours a day- for nap time. The FIRST thing I taught them was the right to say "No"! They have bodily autonomy and it is repected just like everyone else in the house. They are our family NOT pets.

I got my bunny when he was old already, so he's set in his ways. But he loves to come and put his chin on my hand, so I would scratch his neck and jaw. He also loves when I stand up so he run and hop around my feet.

I had a bunny when I was a little younger and I used to carry him by his back lucky for me my dad is a veterinarian and he tells me everything I need to know about caring for a rabbit this video is basically most of the things my dad told me about and i have a rabbit and her name is Stella she is free roaming in our house we bunny proofed the house and we have some boundaries that we made with those baby things where they have like little gates and we put in in the kitchen and some other places and the reason Iam telling u this is bc if you fell like free roaming your bunny and u don’t know what to do you can watch many videos and u might have heard them talking about free roaming so I hope it helped 🐇😊💕

    • @MemoriesLove1999
      @MemoriesLove1999 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

And still it spends 19 hrs alone.. dont try to have a Single bunny and expect that its okay. A Human interaction will be never the same as other Bunnys.
Imagine you have only 5 Horst per Day to spend with a Dog or Rabbit an no other Humans ever. And of course the other 19 hrs per Day ur completely alone. No social Media or anything to interact with other Humans.
Of course the bunny is happy to have at least 5 hrs with somebody but u dont know how it feel when its alone. So if there enough space And Money I would recommend to buy a Friend for ur little one. You will totally notice a big change in their behaviours, also towards you!

We got a boy !! We can't have another boy cause they would fight and we also don't want a female cause they would have babies

    • @MemoriesLove1999
      @MemoriesLove1999 2 ปีที่แล้ว

You know u can go to the Doctor for a Castration. If you castrate both, you can even have two boys. Also, fighting is normal in the Beginning. As the Video tell us, there are very Territorial, means in the Beginning they fight to make clear who's the "boss".
I have one Boy and 3 Girls and they all fighted in the beginning. And now they are cuddling all day long and can't live without each other's.

@@MemoriesLove1999 we can't castrate our rabbit when we do they will say he is too young or too old and the cage would be small for the 2 rabbits my parents say we can't have 2

I rub my rabbit in between his ears 🥰 he loves it so much. He used to like it on the cheeks until he got a teeth problem 🥲 his teeth are to long so it hurts and about once ever 1 or 2 months he finds it hard to eat and drink because of it. He rubs his hand on my hand and it’s so soft and comforting ! Although, my rabbit HATES being picked up but now he’s so old (9 yrs old) it doesn’t bother him and that’s how we know if he’s ill but usually he’s still the same. He has this blue ball that he plays with and pushes it about me and my family love it and are surprised about it. If any of these things happen to you rabbit, why don’t you comment on this and we can talk! Btw the teeth thing is totally normal so just go to a vets and they can sort it out! Hope this made you happy and helps! :)
