This is exactly what I needed thanks Chris! Starting to love this stuff for tuna diving. The only thing I don’t like is it seems hard to hold onto if you’re really trying to keep a fish off of the bottom. Do you tie the same knot on the other end for the reel, or break away?
Chris, why not use a simple bowline knot? In the days before mono that was how we tied shooting lines. I personally never had a failure that I know of.
Hey Luiz, bowline is good, easy and you can untie it. Which makes it very handy. But the dyneema knot is stronger and the bowline slips when using dyneema. Its probably fine for 90% of spearing tho.
Isn’t the bowline bulkier? May send shaft down more. I was using the bowline and found this vid a while back and switched but have not tried shooting with the knot yet
Good vid and good knot, I tried it and like it. There’s even commercial guys who use bowlines though. Idk maybe I’m not good with knots it’s too hard to remember. Out on a boat I’m all about a bowline. If I’m at home and comfy I may use this knot. Either way it’s a good choice.
with 1.9m dyneema the knot gets quite big - should it not sit in front of the wishbone dyneema / notch on load, making the knot less likely to catch on the wishbone dyneema when the spear leaves the nozzle?
Allstar no its best to have the knot behind the bridle. when you shoot the water catches the knot and pulls it behind the shaft. If it is infron it gets trapped by the bridle.
Been using this knot a few years and works like a charm. Thanks for the tip of wetting the line and pulling it forward when burning the end. Very useful tip. Like the 'machete' you are sing to cut the the line🤣🤣
Thanks. In rob allens version he passes through two loops. Is passing through the three loops just the new/improved version? I know a slight detail but just curious.
I usually tie my mono line in the hole of shark fin tip , is it right to do that ? Also what about if I tie dyneema line in the hole of shark fin tip ? I’m using ero shafts
Do you prefer knots to crimps with dyneema? Crimps are slimmer but I'm thinking they could nick the bridle on some shots and cause wear on bridle and/or bridle rails?
Hi Chris pls could you also show how you attached your swivel system to your single roller gun... when you shot that cuta with no teeth pls thx Grant Hall PMB!!!!!
Hi Chris in one of yr vids u said u like a swivel between the reel & yr shooting line Pls show us what swivel u use & how to set it up Pls thx GH PMB SA
What happend to spliced hollow core dynema shooting line? Did you found this dynema to be better and stronger over the years?….i been using spliced hollow core dynema since i saw your video a few years ago. Never had it break no matter how old or frayed it is
There is not doubt that hollowcore dyneema is the strongest and most durable. The problem is finding perfectly cylindrical cord. Most hollow core 8 & 12 strand flatten out and are not round. This means that on a 2mm line the hollow core will be 1mm x 3mm This 3mm causes the line to have drag and slow the shaft down. When I find the right line.... I will get rich 😂
Yes you can, but I prefer not to as you land up not having a quick release knot. You also land up cutting the line shortening the reel line, prefer just to have seperate shooting line.

Yea dyneema is slippery and hard to lift big fish on.
The knot on the other end (loop for reel line or breakaway etc) is the same.
Awesome thanks buddy. Digging this rigging and technique videos 🤙
allways watching your videos..begginer vlogger here from the philipines..full support here
The only thing missing is the other end for those of us who don’t use a reel (on the gun), how it attaches to the elastic shock absorber/pretension.
Thanks, great detail with the instructions. Just more professional
Muy bueno, gracias por el vídeo.

Such an elegant way of showing the best way to do these knots!

Hey Kay the bowline is not as strong. But easy to do in the water.

Just cut off my mono and tied this, really easy and strong. Thanks a lot…
Could you do a close up pick of the knot ?
I usually tie my mono line in the hole of shark fin tip , is it right to do that ?
Also what about if I tie dyneema line in the hole of shark fin tip ? I’m using ero shafts
There should be no problem tieing the dyneema to the shark fin hole 👍
Very nice, what type of dynemma is this and how thick? Cheers
2mm , core dyneema
Std 1.8mm-2mm 'spearfishing' dyneema. The one with the outer sheath and inner core.
Do you prefer knots to crimps with dyneema? Crimps are slimmer but I'm thinking they could nick the bridle on some shots and cause wear on bridle and/or bridle rails?
Thanks Chris! I normally use mono but keen to try use this more simple shooting line approach. Are you using the standard RA dyneema?
Yes std 1.8mm-2mm spearing dyneema.
Thank you
Thanks Chris!
Thank you Chris!!!!
A real pro!
Amazing! Thank you and much love from NZ!
nice Chris , but the quality from yr white 2mm line , kwown as a RA 2 mm or 1,8 mm dyneema , could be a lot better quality dyneema line ! rgds
Hey Marc, What line do you think is better?
Hi Chris pls could you also show how you attached your swivel system to your single roller gun... when you shot that cuta with no teeth pls thx Grant Hall PMB!!!!!
Hey Grant, Will put that on the list of vids to do 👍
Hello Master . Cheers from Corsica . It is better to use dynema Than thé Classic 120 fishing Line for thé roller ? Thank you
Hey Daniel,
Dyneema for some reason snags less on rollers than 1.5 & 2mm mono fishing line. Just remember to always keep your dyneema line tight.
What is the name of that kind of dyneema
Hi. Any reason not to use monofilament line?
Hi Chris in one of yr vids u said u like a swivel between the reel & yr shooting line Pls show us what swivel u use & how to set it up Pls thx GH PMB SA
Hey GH I use a 2/0 power swivel. Anything strong will do.

Would crimping the dyneema be as effective? Of course we lose the ease of just being able to tie, but I was curious
Watch this th-cam.com/video/bsY-G6lsOjA/w-d-xo.html 👍
perfecto amigo, bravo!
My dream spear gun 🥺
You are the GOAT
Excellant, thanks
Nice instructive video! And the nice scalpel(knife)! 😃👍
Thanks 👍
Hey master is 1.5mm dyneema is enough and good setup for 100cm speargun?
Hey Abraham
100% absolutely. The breaking strain with a std knot is around 100kg.... that pressure will drown you before breaking ha ha..
@@CoatesmansSpearfishing wow thank You master 😁😁 I hope it cant drown me I had support Bouy
@@CoatesmansSpearfishing I just exit the MonoNylon setup with my inverted and now I'll be trying to set up a sling with 6.5 and dyneema
Just got a reel and I’m trying to find the right line to rig it with. Can I do dyneema for my shooting line and reel too?
Yes I use std spearfishing dyneema for both reel and shooting line.
@@CoatesmansSpearfishing Sweet, thanks for the response!
Awesome video by the way! The best rigging video I’ve seen
If you use Dyneema for your reel can you not connect this directly to your spear?
Yes you can, but I prefer not to as you land up not having a quick release knot. You also land up cutting the line shortening the reel line, prefer just to have seperate shooting line.
@@CoatesmansSpearfishing thank you
What size dyneema is that?
1.8 or 2mm dyneema
