    Character designs that will be turned into 3D models definately play by different rules than if they are drawn by hand in 2D, both for animation and comics. I heard an interesting interview with Phil Bourassa about the Vox Machina character designs where he explained that something as simple as a buckle had to be carefully considered. They made the buckles solid squares instead of having the extra detail of the hole in the middle, where the belt shows. When you are drawing that buckle thousands of times, it adds up just having to add that extra inside square, and having it be consistent as the form turns etc.
    Definately worth finding that interview and checking it out for great insights into designing econimically for comics too.

    Hey guys, I stumbled upon this chanel today and have been hearing all day while working, I usually dont comment in youtube so I dont know how the comment is signed, my name is Nico Leon I have been working for Marvel for about 8 years or so, a bit in DC too and since I live in Japan and don't speak Japanese, I barely have anybody to talk art stuff with, nor the time to. I'm through the worst and longest burnout in my life and it has been really awesome and healing even to hear the interviews and your own stories and experiences in the industry. Thank you so much for putting together this blog and talking sincerely about all this stuff! Big fan from now on! Wish you guys the best for the channel!

      Maybe I'm biased, but there seems to be a resurgence of comic book podcasts and vlogs. Although we always hear that the industry is in trouble, hopefully, it means that the audience for good art and interesting stories is coming back. Nico, I checked out your art. It's amazing. Try to take care of your health and avoid burnout. All the best.

    Great episode!
    Nice to see a nod to the og pod cast with some poop talk. Maybe the next sketchbook should be Greg Louganis. Think I remembered that poop terminology correctly?

    The best way to check your value in Photoshop is to make a black solid layer in color mode above all of your layers. It will show you the correct value:)

    I have ordered Matteos sketchbook and did get it already. It is great but missing sketches ;) … he just put in his commissions he did. Maybe you should tell him what a sketchbook is 😂

    Do any of you use an editor for your own books? It sounds like Matteo isn't showing his to anyone, and that surprises me. I would think you'd show an outline or script to get feedback before drawing.

    • @inkpulp
      @inkpulp  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Eric, does. Matteo isnt yet. But to be honest, there are so few editors that offfer anything in terms of understanding how comics work. We've worked under their ignorance for a long time and we know better than most of them. This is the joy of going independant

    Loved FARGO! But I couldn't with this Season Maybe I'll give it another pass. I LOVED S4 of True Detective, it's worth your time. Gotta go back and watch S3. As a rule I don't really like TV shows, they just take so much commitment and time. I'd rather watch animation 100% of the time...and the fact that when a show is happening and it's good...then they don't finish it. (I am not OK with This Netflix...I'm looking at you). At any rate, love the insight about work, the process, and all the nerd talk we are all watching/listening to while we're drawing.
