Fact: “I’m living in Texas since August of 2000, but I was born and raised in California, worked in New York City for 10 years, and a traveler for almost 30 years around the world, and I will never leave TEXAS, period.” Have a great day to y’all…
Wow, you have such a good life. You make all Californians that are unable to leave California jealous of you just because you got the lucky opportunity to be able to leave that state that many Californians wish they could get but are unable to get.
It seems that you dislike more things then what you actually like. The great state of Texas is great cause of the real Texans that made it great. We really don't need outsiders to come and try to change it to be similar to the place that they're fleeing from.
That would be my biggest issue with Californias moving to Texas, they want to bring there political bs with them and change Texas into another cesspool. I feel if you kept voting for the same bs political crap for 30 years or more your braindead and deserve to suffer due to it. I moved out of cali for that reason and lack of freedoms, especially gun ans self defense rights.
I'm from Los Angeles and I took my first trip to Texas about a week before you posted this video in the San Antonio area and totally agree people are totally nice! Even the lady I sat next to on the plan invited me over for BBQ with her family if I decided to move my family out there. While I did not venture out to Austin (got as far as New Braunfels) I felt San Antonio was very diverse and people showed respect to one another even if you did or did not have a mask on. Also a pro tip I found if you are looking to buy a house find out where the city limit is and if you buy right outside it your property taxes will be about half compared to living in the city. Great video! Thanks for sharing your experience. If all goes well I'll be in Texas by June!
Cool!! San Antonio is nice! & New Braunfels seems really great if you have kids! The river there is beautiful fun to float in the summer. That’s awesome, good luck! The one thing that’s been really great at the grocery stores compared to Cali is the steak! 😆🥩🙌🏽 so I’m sure you will enjoy that! Thanks for watching! ☺️👍🏽
Any updates on whether you are still moving to texas and when exactly? I hear texas has great food, but the scenery looks a little boring. From my experience, when I had a layover at dallas, the people working at the airport seemed to be the same as los angeles airport.
I don't know what part of California she used to live in. But I'm a home owner here in California. My property tax is $8000.00 a year on a $900,000.00. Which is the average price of a decent home here. Good luck to anyone trying to buy a home here. I don't know how high it is in Texas but it can't be as high as California just because of the average price of a home.
Well she is young...your perspective and priorities change when you get older or have children. I would be negative on Austin too when I was in my twenties...but that changes when you get more responsibilities. Not having sidewalks means you're not having homeless, crazies and roaming thugs wander in front of your house or take over your block. You don't think about your safety or your neighborhood 10 years from now as much when you're young.
Born and raised in Austin. I didn’t really have anything against Californians, most that moved near me were pretty friendly… Until… they moved in. A MASSIVE family from California moved in a couple houses down. I think the parents were constantly drunk as there were A TON of alcohol bottles littered around their yard. Worst part was that the dad or something would ride his LOUD motorcycle at like 3 in the morning through the alleyway. Thank god they moved out about a year ago and got replaced by another, but friendly California family.
i feel like if youre born in cali its extremely hard to live anywhere else, i know everyone promotes the california exodus but tbh most are doing it not by choice but rather monetary reasons
Yeah I feel you!! I could probably live somewhere else long term, but that will still be home! Grew up in Cali and yet there is still soooo much unexplored natural beauty! Exactly, it’s getting so expensive to live there some people don’t have a choice but to leave. That’s why I don’t understand all the haters, we are just trying to survive and thrive ❤️
@@girlvamonos Honestly the hate is from back in the day....not saying all but most Californians use to talk a lot of shit about texans and texas in general back in the day way before that started moving here and i know because i grew up back and forth from texas to California considering my mom is from cali and my dad is from texas ...so therefore texans see it as fake in a way...."like u hated our state but now you need to move here to survive "....but like i said not all Californians...it was some out there like you that back in the day that never hated on texas ....so yall are more than welcomed....
Yes that is the point, there is an exodus and its because only the wealthy can live in california, everyone else is just surviving. The fact is that crime and homelessness is still rising and the big businesses are gradually all moving out which takes the jobs and money and will impact the economy negatively. If this continues, 10 years from now california will be a wasteland.
I can kinda understand this. I was born in another state but my boyfriend was born here. He doesn't know how other states are and I feel I need to take him out for a couple weeks before we actually move anywhere.
It's crazy how so many people don't like living in Austin after having moved there due to buzz. I thought Austin seems like a cool place to live but so many people regret it. Yikes!
Lol.. so true.. I still have a lot of people reaching out to me about Austin bc they’re interested in checking it out, but you never truly know until you move there! 😅🤷🏽♀️
I live in Champions, just north of Houston. We are the most diverse city in America. Everyone, no matter their race, are friendly and we all have one thing in common…we’re proud to be Texans!
I just got back from a trip to Austin and I was bothered by no sidewalks and the fact that you need a car to get anywhere. It’s insane. I’m like dang when y’all built this place y’all didn’t think 🤔 about convenience. A simple freaking walk. 😒
This isn't meant to be rude in any way but it is funny that you could almost guarantee that someone coming from California plans on moving to Austin. I mean a lot of people from California are definitely moving here to San Antonio but I'm not really understanding why people want to move to Austin so bad because Austin is a shadow of its former self. Texas is also nowhere near as cheap as it used to be before this influx of people. I would say a good plan is to move to somewhere that no one else is really moving to unless you just really need that city life.
I chose Austin because of the nature surrounding it. I hike twice a week, it’s part of my lifestyle and a lot of Californians value it too. 👍🏽 Agree def not as cheap anymore.
I used to live in Austin back in the 90's, now I live in L.A. I really miss Austin. I miss the live music scene. I could go down to 6th street and see multiple bands at various venues 7 days a week. Also, the South by Southwest film/music festival was always great. I miss some of the best Tex-Mex food you could ever get there as well as some of the best BBQ. I miss going to Lonhorn football games. I miss taking a boat out on Lake Travis and Lake Austin. I miss all the friendly deer in Lakeway. L.A. is filthy and full of homeless. There is garbage and graffiti everywhere. The politicians who run California have turned it into a giant trash heap.
The streets are dark to preserve the night sky. Dripping Spring and Wimberley are one of the few International Dark Sky Communities (along with Fredericksburg and Horseshoe Bay) in the entire country. If you go to those cities at night, you’ll notice that you can see a shit ton of stars…..which was what the hill country was known for to begin with.
Great video thank you for sharing. As a Californian I always hear that Austin is the "Bay Area" of Texas is this true? Bay Area meaning much more Liberal, very expensive etc. Not sure I agree with your "high property taxes". Yes CA has Prop13 to control property tax, but TX has no state income tax and a sales tax of 6.25% vs CA State Income Tax of up to 13% and SF sales tax of 8.6%, which after local add ons is actually around 9.2%.
@@rockingredpoppy9119 How would they lose their home over property tax? Is there some estimated yearly increase? Does it fluctuate wildly? For many coming to TX from CA, they don't have a mortgage b/c they sold their Cali home and have a lot of cash to spend.
@@boogie7778 where did you get some crazy idea people from CA don't have a mortgage on their homes? And yes the property taxes in TX can go up 10% a year.
I appreciate you for this video big time. I’m from Fresno CA & thinking about moving to Texas alone. Just trynna find out where in Texas so I’m doing my research. Again, Thank you.

I moved from Oregon a few years ago to Texas, but I am in the Dallas area actually north of Dallas in the Frisco area, we have plenty of sidewalks up here so I'm not sure what that's about. I lived in Portland most of my life and Austin is compared to Portland a lot so I would never consider living there. I love it here and will never move again.
Austin is nowhere near as bad as Portland, trust me. The liberals in Austin can entertain a conversation, the liberals in Portland are violent and intolerant. It is much more moderate.
What is with this comment section being so salty that she’s from California?? Guys it’s just another state chill out. You can’t gate keep Texas, or any place for that matter.
This comment. Finally, someone decent for once. People forget that california and texas are still part of the same country, and texas isnt that different from california.
@@haz4dc394 aside from Texas having a huge ego, higher percentage of desert land, and being hotter, I fail to see any other differences. List other differences for me. Please, I need to know.
@@haz4dc394 yes I am, cause aside from the three differences I listed, I don’t see how else the two are any different aside from both of them being two separate states that don’t border each other.
Assimilation is huge. You moved out of California for a reason. Yes, the food is different but there is a really good reason why Texas "feels safe" and people are friendly. Assimilate or people are going to end up changing these good things.
I lived in CA for about 40 years in both So.Cal & Nor.Cal and now live in Texas for the past 4 years. There is a lot to like about Tx. The people are very friendly, lots of greenery, parks, trails, diversity and nature. The population density in general is way better than CA. In my experience food is more expensive here in TX and it's very hot. There are so many CA transplants here that I'm amazed. For the most part I feel the time has passed to move here for financial reasons. Property taxes are high and home prices have almost doubled in the past 5-6 years and at a much higher % than in CA in area's close to Dallas. TX is definitely more business friendly and is attracting billions of $'s in new development and companies moving here. A lot of people that move from LA or SF might not like it here because it's not intense or high strung and it has a very casual laid back vibe. My absolute favorite thing that I love about TX is the political diversity. You won't be hated or assaulted for having certain political views and you won't need to be in the closet about it like you do in CA. If you truly want to have freedom of speech and want to live free, TX is a great place to live. I frequently visit CA and talk to friends about the TX lifestyle and many think it's what TX used to be 20 plus years ago. I enjoy visiting CA and have plenty of friends and lot's of family there and would move back under the right circumstances. Just know that TX is very different so you should do your homework and talk to both people that have lived here for a long time as well as people that moved here from CA to better understand the differences.
I'm getting a job offer and I have the choice of staying in MA and working about an hour away from Boston, or going all the way to Austin, and working in the city. I am entirely torn and full of anxiety about this decision, so your video helped a little bit, thanks. Still cant decide though
Halfway through still but I gotta say, this is really interesting to hear! I love hearing how other people live, gives me more perspective! Really wouldn’t have thought Austin was so green! Show me next time! 😉😝🤓 I’d love to see more of these watering holes that you speak of! I had more to say and shit I forgot but I’ll brb! Thank you for the insight so far!
Yeah! I’m sooo bad at taking videos while I’m out and about 😭💔 I really gotta get better so I can make some adventure vlogs! But it’s really nice out here fr!! Come visit! 🙈
I am from So Cal and can critique this well. First off, Don't California Texas if unhappy with California than why would you want one of the best states in the union to end up like Cal. People leave California for various reasons. Property tax might be higher but do the math. If your property tax here is 5k on avg but you do not pay state income tax you won and then some. I own property in both states I pay $4500 on a 600k 1500 SQ FT 3bd Condo in Downey and I pay $5300 on a 1800 SQ Ft 4+3 Home in Austin. However, I see my money at work. Yes it's not perfect and I lived in multiple countires so maybe people should not expect the same or compare one place to another. There are bike lanes all over Downtown Austin so I am not sure what you are talking about. Have you been to Hot Pot Alley or the Little Sheep. For me finding true Mexican food is hard because it's Tex Mex. But the limited amount of Homeless compare to LA, lower cost of living even though Austin still isn't cheap, gas is $2 less, good luck finding a 1+1 under 3000 in SF or LA Downtown about half in Austin. Minimal traffic at best. I can go from one end to the other in 45 min which would be 2+ hours in LA. I had allergies in Cali yet Cedar had done minimal. Its nice to have blue vs brown or orange skies from smog or fires. In two hours you can be in San Antonio, Dallas, Houston and 3 hours to the Casino in Oklahoma. It's a large state but same goes from SD to SF is about 10 hours and if lucky due to traffic. People are nice it's about networking. People will bend over backwards to help you but at the same time some things are backwards or just far behind. No different then when I lived in other parts of the world you can't expect everything to be the way you grew up. Freedom is more than guns and no masks. I don't agree with everything on either side of politics but why do we have to deal with so many changes and everyone has their feelings hurt over something that is minimal. Grow up and adult up. But yes Constitutionally I fee free as a Patriot and an American, able to to bleed red, white and blue. If you want to travel, majority of America is central to the US. My biggest issue honestly is that some fruit or vegetables is not as fresh but understandable because majority is coming from Cali or Mexico. Maybe I should start my own channel but be 100% raw take it or leave it with clips of how beautiful it is. Also if you are from Nor Cal heat will be an issue but So Cal and not on the beach but the valley or inland around Downtown it's 95F on avg with mild humidity, heat wave is about 105. Nothing out of the norm and if you are a drinker get in line. More bars than 711 and avg is $5-10 drink not $20. Drink Up, Eat Up and Indulge in Texas the best state in the Union.
First I would like to say welcome to Texas. A couple things I’d like to go over with you just to put things in perspective. Texas is a very large place and you can’t judge all of it from Austin. If you want diversity culture arts in restaurants you need to go to Houston. If you want the young by as you mentioned, and you are a young especially young liberal, Austin is a great place for you. San Antonio has a lot of scenery and touristy places like the Riverwalk and such and largely Hispanic. And Dallas is well it’s Dallas, it’s not horrible it’s not great but I wouldn’t go out of your way to go there honestly. Corpus Christi is a major hub for spring breakers. If you want to gamble you can take a 8 Hour Rd. trip to Louisiana. If you want mountains you can take probably a 10 to 12 hour trip to South East New Mexico in that area. Cloudcroft New Mexico is really awesome in the summertime weatherwise. That area is also a ski area I believe as well. Now you mention the high property tax, which I agree Texas does have that. However you fail to mention there is absolutely no income tax in the state of Texas either. Notwithstanding the low cost of living and low cost of housing. Compare gas prices between the two states as well. Texans are tough breed and when the chips are down and a catastrophe hits we come together fairly easy. Again welcome to Texas I hope you enjoy it here and I help I put things into a little bit of better perspective.
Hey I just moved to Austin from New York. I like it here so far better than NY but I still haven't experienced winter. My dream was to live in Cali but I hear it has a homelessness problem and housing crisis. Hopefully someday I will live my California dream. How would you compare winter season in Cali to TX? I absolutely despise cold weather lol.
** Does no research on the state shes moving to, then complains in a video ** ...I now see why people want californians to stay away from their states.
Moved from San Diego to Austin 1.5years ago. I’m Asian, but I look Hispanic to some. I haven’t experienced racism, but ppl are haters when they find out I’m from Cali. Ppl do stare at us sometimes when we go out. I don’t consider that being racist, I just take it as they’re staring cuz we’re cute. Lol. Everyone’s mostly friendly, however. I think Texans can tell we’re not from here maybe by the way we dress? Or the way we look in general. I dunno. When I meet people, the first thing they ask is where I’m originally from. A neighbor asked rudely what made us move here? What we’re doing here? Why are we here? Went to a party a month ago and met some born & raised Texans & they definitely seem annoyed that a lot of us are from Cali. They made some snide remarks about Californians. So far, we are happy here raising our family in a beautiful safe neighborhood. It’s somewhat diverse depending on the part of town you’re in. Go east of the 35 & it definitely gets more diverse, the people and the food.
We respond that way bc Californians are ignorantly destroying our state. You come here, oblivious as hell and try to 1. vote in the same policies that destroyed your state and 2. raise the price of everything bc you come from a shithole where tacos are $6 and that's considered "normal" to you. You bring your shitty fusion restaurants, annoying obsessiveness with weed and overall "wHy DOnT yOu guYs hAvE pubLIC TRanspoRTaTion" attitude everywhere you go. In general, you guys ruin everything you touch yet have the audacity to make complaints in a state that you're now in without remembering that you came here bc you were too broke to live in your own state. You should be kissing the ground you walk on here but you don't and that has rubbed true Texans the wrong way for to long
Austin is still a small city compared to the other major Texas cities. Where Houston has the most diverse population in the nation, and Dallas as well has been getting more diverse. And both those cities have all the international city features with countless museums and I think houston is second to new York with It’s theater district. Also Houston has the best food because of all the diversity and lots of mixing of the cultural foods. But Houston is not as pretty geographically as Austin, same with Dallas.
Yes so true!! They all have something different to offer and they all have their pros and cons! I loved the museum district in Houston and the food! ❤️🙌🏽 thanks for watching.
We LOVE that Austin is NOT as huge like other cities that has tons of population, and HOMELESS everywhere, like CALIFORNIA. Thanks GOD that the stupid laws from 2019, was eradicated last 2021, so homeless crisis is not as bad as before, and will never be like Shittyfornia, that have LOTS of crimes, homeless, etc……………
dealing with cedar fever season in Austin and it has been pretty rough for me. I was searching for "tried austin moved back" and found your video. I moved here two years ago from new york and I never had to deal with allergies that much. over the counter stuff helps but felt like I was literally coming down with something today and felt so fatigued. I'm scheduling an allergist appointment.
Yes, property taxes are higher in Texas, but property values are by far lower. In the end you will pay less in property taxes in Texas than in California. Then there are no state income taxes in Texas ware in California you have to pay up to 12.3% in income taxes. Then on top of that you have to pay even more in sales tax in California than in Texas. In San Francisco a one-bedroom apartment costs on average $2,343 a month were in Auston you can rent a 4-bedroom 2 bath house for that same amount of money. There is no comparing Texas to California when money is involved. Texas will win hands down in every economic category.
Yes, I heard people complained about property tax rate is higher in Texas but they said nothing about how it is still lower as the CA homes are twice as much. lol
@@jglee6721 You can't just look at one factor and say this place is cheaper than that place. When it comes to how much it costs to live between two places not only do you need to look at property taxes but also income taxes, sales taxes, rent or mortgage payments, utilities, food, entertainment, and every other factor that costs money. San Francisco and New York City are two of the most expensive places to live in the US where in B.F. Nowhere in Fly Over state can be the cheapest place to live.
I don't think you need a ton of different races to diversify food choices. Japan is known to have some of the best food...and there is a TON of diverse food there...and it's 98% Japanese. I think people get wrapped up on culture and diversity too much.
Well Asian countries like Korea and Japan are some of the least diverse and discriminatory countries in the world. I saw a video where in Korea only locals can enter clubs. I definitely wouldn't move to a country like that
I don't understand why the lack of diversity is a problem, I say this as a biracial man by the way. The reason Texas is better than California is because of the people who make it up. People live in a place, and those people shape how it is. I live in a state that is over 90% white as a biracial (half black) man but the people are great so it is my home. I don't care about race. If you don't want to assimilate or respect the culture or the people why move there? Why live in a place where you have nothing but contempt for the people living there? I don't get it.
Thanks for mentioning the freedom aspect, bc I agree 100%. Ive lived in both CA and TX and yes, CA does have some crazy laws, but Honestly TX isnt any better. Registering my cars in CA was actually very easy with the help of the CHP, doing the same with the TX DMV was a nightmare. Sure, home prices are less expensive in TX, but the taxes and fees involved with everything else is insane. So i agree, for very niche things TX has more "freedom" and is less expensive. but largely for everything else I found that not to be the case.
Hope it was helpful. It is def a music city, and you are clearly talented! Good luck! Raiders?! Hey the Raiders did well this season, can't lie about that :D
@@girlvamonos haha yeah it was a good year. 9ers too! I was actually pulling for you guys in the NFC game. I’m trying to head to Austin in a month or two. Any areas that you would recommend, or not recommend? I wanna be close to comedy clubs but also wanna keep my expenses in check. Cheers!
Interesting video. Despite the surface level politics, the day to day living in metro Phoenix sounds more like California than Austin, Texas in terms of not being restrictive, good land use planning, public parks, and even to some extent diversity.
What is Hot Pop, is that how you spell it, school me. I lived there and you are right. And if you want to fly somewhere it better not rain the day/night/that day - the airport suffers flooding issues which mess up the electic- you may have to print your ticket at home before going to the airport.
Hot Pot- Its a restaurant (typically Asian) that serves soups and you get the veggies, meat, and topping on the side and you cook everything to your liking.. HOWEVER, apparently Austin just opened a spot recently and my comment is no longer valid. 😅🤦♀
Some of the cons listed are based on the area. If you're looking for good food, diversity, and kind people, move to Houston. HOWEVER, the humidity and infrastructure problems still remain, though you won't want to leave the car in the hot wet blanket that is the Houston summer.
I moved to Pflugerville in 2017-18 and worked downtown for some tech company, then lost my job due to covid. Now I'M just getting by. Never really found anything I liked. I like the access to guns and that's pretty much the coolest I got into while here. I'm planning to move back to the South Bay within 1 year or so. I'm ready to leave now. Good experiences here but the heat is probably the biggest factor for wanting to leave.
@@girlvamonos Well it's gone upa huge amount because of the massive migration people are doing around thr country. People are moving to Texas, Florida, Nevada Arizona and idaho..among other places so prices get crazy
Yes, you should assimilate to the place you chose to move to. I'm from Cali. If someone moved from Texas to California and went on about how great Texas was, you'd most likely tell them to go back to Texas. As you should. Probably, if you embrace the local culture, you'd find more people gravitate to your circle. When in Texas, do as the Texans do. I moved from LA to a small town in Oregon (at the time). I don't do all the things my neighbors do, but I respect and admire what they can do.
I live in Texas but I think of my self as a Californian. Do I want to return to California, not on your life! Do I like Texas, not really and why, the goodoldboy politics that infests the state. If you are not politically connected the system will grind you into the dirt with an iron boot. I'm a libertarian and unless I need something I just want to be left alone but that does not happen in texas. In texas the politically connected will f**k you over just because they can get away with it with impunity. If there was a state that had decent weather that was libertarian and not a red or blue state I would move there in a heart beat.
You have to understand, if you’re not from Texas, that most of us outside the Austin area, tend to avoid Austin whenever we can. Much of Texas doesn’t resemble Austin at all. And that’s a good thing.
Lack of diversity means too many white people. If a white person went and lived in Mexico city and explained that there was not alot of diversity, what would that person be saying and what would you think of them for saying it?
Mexico City if full of White people and europeans so Your point kind of sucks lol ... Plus texas used to be apart of mexico so again your point really sucks
I lived in Austin and California. My last moved was to moved from Austin to a rural area. It is so much cheaper, clean air, no crime, no graffityi, no traffic jams. It is my final destination.
I’m not trying to be mean and I’m not a troll but I think you would be happier moving back to Cali, even though your Texas experience has helped you grow. I say that as a person who is moving to Texas. It’s not for everybody….
Thank you! Yea I did move back to the west coast, I am much happier even though I’m not in California but it’s closer to the lifestyle I want! 😝🙌🏽 Hope you’re enjoying it! 😀
@@girlvamonos if you don’t mind me asking, by west coast you mean California? I debating between moving to Arizona or Texas and I’m not sure if Arizona is west-coasty enough 😂, I’m also a POC so the diversity aspect is important to me.
I wonder where you lived in Cali. I have been here most of my life and I have always feel safe. It’s home and it’s beautiful. Worked in Austin for awhile, it’s a university city, there are nice thing about it, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
The last of diversity is real. But it's two ways. I've tried to talk to the Hispanic people here in Austin since moving from Cali and they don't seem particularly interested, almost like they are happy just being friends within the Hispanic community, especially in Riverside. In LA most of my friends were from white, black and Hispanic backgrounds and it wasn't an issue at all. It's not racist or hostile, it's just not integrated. The food is also bad outside of BBQ, breakfast tacos and some Tex Mex spots. Add coffee to that too, just not blown away by it. Cali food is better, no question. Austin is safer, thank you second amendment. Cleaner, thanks to the prop we voted in to stop homeless erecting tents right on top of you and littering the place with drugs. Alcohol on Sundays is a stupid rule, I agree with that. They don't enforce any marijuana laws in ATX, it will be legalized in a few years state wide most likely. Abortion is also not black and white, there should be, and there are, instances where its fine, but Cali....you can abort a baby the day before it's born. Just no. Thats not freedom, thats where we need to prey for the culture thats lost its soul.
Austin, though the capitol of the great state of Texas, is not really Texas. I was a visitor there in 2004 and was shocked to see that even 18 years ago, Austin was already San Francisco light. It was disheartening. So, moving from CA to Austin is like moving to San Fran, just cheaper living and more uncomfortable weather.
Spot on. I moved here because of the hype but soon realized it was all a front. They say it’s diverse, but it’s diverse in the eyes of white people. I too have changed my appearance to cater to the people here and feel like I’m losing myself. When my lease is up I’m gone. Yes the people here are friendly but it’s not it
I agree everywhere is so far away whereas if you live in Colorado you can go to other states. I guess that’s why most Texans never leave and experience the world out there. Everyone thinks the BBQ here is good, but it’s the worst. They put only salt and pepper. I think they have better museums in San Antonio and Dallas, but not in Austin. I’m from Texas but I’ve moved around and now live here. I’m giving it another year but hopefully moving away soon.
i just moved to San Antonio texas from LA. a year ago & i have more cons then pros. pros: is that its cheap. but cons. man. where do i begin. very nice apartment we leased had bugs, i disagree on people being so nice. all the people i work with arent nice. they're rude with no manners. lots of wreckless drivers. a truck hit my car! that never happen in LA despite the crazy traffic! & last but not least i get an amber alert every week! some child is always missing! texas is cheaper but cheaper doesnt mean better im def moving back once my lease is up!
Yeahhh the bugs are insane… and there’s toads the size of my foot to eat those bugs, and tons of snakes to eat those toads 😂😂 just that was too much for me 😆🙌🏽 good luck! I moved to Vegas cheaper version of Cali 🤷🏽♀️
@@girlvamonos yeah i love Vegas. the dry heat is better than the humid weather. it was either texas or vegas. but we chose texas. but we might move to vegas as well. closer to CA too 😉
Property taxes offset any positive about Texas; the property taxes literally ruin Texas. Yeah I know, no income tax, but that doesn't help seniors at all. Seniors don't benefit from no income taxes.
Interesting. I had a totally different experience in Austin. It was congested with people and traffic. I didn't see any cowboys or guns. I did see a lot of masks. I also did see a lot of Hispanic people. I'm Hispanic and I thought I would stick out but I didn't lol

I've been thinking about texas I live in cali too. And I hate it. Texas has some nice homes .. cheaper too. That's probably my main reason why Im considering texas. But I'm not sure!
Yeah the homes are cheaper in TX but talk to a real estate agent first! The property tax is so high, you’ll be approved for less. But that’s awesome, you should check it out! 🙌🏽
I can honestly state there’s about half a dozen locations within this country I would live, and they’re all beautiful yet cost a small fortune to reside. Difficult times for many….BTW all my choices are in the N. East.
This video was really helpful as I have considered moving to Austin. Lack of diversity and culture is probably one of my biggest concerns. You're the first person/video to candidly call it out. Also, I'm happy for you guys to pivot and make a decision to leave, but also disappointed since it affirms the gravity of the cons you highlighted. Lots to think about. Good luck with your move!
Hi Jeff! I appreciate your comment so much! ☺️ I’m glad I got to check it out, experience it, and explore Texas! It was good for 1 year, but I’m ready for some amazing Asian Food again! Hope you figure out what’s next for you too! Feel free to DM me on insta and I’ll give you the real low down! 😉👍🏽
For me, I don’t like a place that is a MESS because of too much diversity that actually ruin the place. I remember when I was a kid, my dad said “WHEN IN ROME, DO WHAT ROMANS DO”. Why have to CHANGE a place that was KNOWN for being warm, friendly and have ONE thing in mind - PEACE to EVERYONE you meet anywhere. By the way, I was born and raised in California, worked 10 years in New York City, traveled lots of countries overseas for almost 30 years, and I will never leave Austin, period. Have a great day to y’all!
I hope you find your place in life and wish you the best. In my opinion there are much better cities than Austin for sure. Ive always thought Austin was dirty and congested compared to other places in Texas. I personally like Houston the most, but Dallas is next level. San Antonio (spent the most time there- 10 years) was also a great place.
I hope that you don't vote for the same policy makers that are in California, if you want freedom and law and order you should vote for MAGA candidates
It's not just Texas but most of the eastern United States is privately owned , I have lived in Vegas for over twenty years and around eighty percent of Nevada is owned by the federal government but I grew up in Kentucky which is a very rural state but most of the land even wooded is privately owned so I just grew up with that so it wouldn't be a big deal to me. And every body pretty much has the same religion ( southern Baptist) eats the same , dresses the same has the same political views so probably much more of a cookie cutter society than in Austin. That is the best thing I like about living in Vegas is it is so multicultural compared to western KY. But I do miss the home town friendliness and the green landscape.
Was in Austin for two months and the racial segregation is unreal. People are pretty blatantly about it too. And the air quality , terrible. Tho with any luck they’ll choke on it. Would serve them right.
Being from Cali i disagree with the fact that if you live in Cali you dont have to assimilate to Cali bs. You need a car in Cali to get around. Home taxes is way higher in Cali then anywhere else. There is a reason why you moved to Texas and i bet it is something to do with the cost of living in SF. Texas has strong private property rights unlike Cali. You moved to a conservative state deal with it. End on a positive note love the 49ers scarf.
Yes, I think I should have tried Houston for the cultural aspects!! 🙌🏽 I’m not sure about their outdoor hiking scene, but I enjoyed Houston all the times I visited! ☺️ Thanks for watching!

Born and raised in CA most of my life. Move to Texas. Never moving back.
Yeah it makes no sense.
Then stayyyy in caliiii?.... Lol
I can respect that
It's her being passive-aggressive. She wants to go back to Cali.
You just made me want to move in there! Totally agree! I hope people are not fleeing NY and CA to try to ruin TX.
Thanks for this post. I have been hearing mostly
positive things about Texas.
Take yo silly ass back.
Any updates on whether you are still moving to texas and when exactly?
I hear texas has great food, but the scenery looks a little boring. From my experience, when I had a layover at dallas, the people working at the airport seemed to be the same as los angeles airport.
San Antonio is one of the biggest Ghettos you've ever seen and it is a military town. Ironic?
Texas property taxes are 4th highest in the nation. A house costing $300,000 could have property taxes of $10K to $14K a year.
Born and raised in Austin.
I didn’t really have anything against Californians, most that moved near me were pretty friendly…
Until… they moved in.
@@steezzyv2470 it was during the Bush administration for sure lol.
@10:45 - "There's a lot of private property here" WTF. The Cali conditioning goes deep.
LMFAO exactly....
too hot to get out of our cars
Is anyone gonna use the sidewalks when it's over 100 degrees outside half the year? 😂
It is nothing like that anymore.
Austin isn’t like that anymore. At all!
If you live in L.A. don't worry you are in today's Austin. It is utterly ruined.
There's more to CA than L.A. The Redwoods, Yosemite, Sequoia, the Beaches.......
Austin hasn't been Texas since the 90s. DFW still has hope we have some Republicans in Fort Worth and some of the suburbs
You apparently don't get out much. Check out Dallas, San Antonio. There are a ton of trails and parks in Austin.
I hiked every week in Austin, travelled hours for nice hiking spots. Hiking is life 😅🙌🏽✨

Texas has the 4th highest property taxes in the nation. So if you're a senior you're most likely going to lose your home.
@@rockingredpoppy9119 How would they lose their home over property tax? Is there some estimated yearly increase? Does it fluctuate wildly? For many coming to TX from CA, they don't have a mortgage b/c they sold their Cali home and have a lot of cash to spend.

Property tax? 1000 a year is nothing is that correct?
Austin IS NOT Texas.

And both those cities have all the international city features with countless museums and I think houston is second to new York with It’s theater district. Also Houston has the best food because of all the diversity and lots of mixing of the cultural foods. But Houston is not as pretty geographically as Austin, same with Dallas.

Check out the Colorado River in Austin during the summer
Lol you're right about private property
I definitely wouldn't move to a country like that
The young have been indoctrinated. "Diversity is our strength" and all that. 😂
Nice video! I am planning on escaping SHALLOW San Diego soon and I cant wait to head to Austin. Paying for our weather tax in CA is overrated!
Good luck! 🙌🏽
What do you mean shallow San Diego
sounds like more cons than pros..so why are you still there?
Thanks for the information! I'm looking to move to Austin soon. Also... JUST WIN BABY!! RN4L ;)
Cheers!
@@girlvamonos and thanks for the compliment! I love the guitar ✌️
Interesting video. Despite the surface level politics, the day to day living in metro Phoenix sounds more like California than Austin, Texas in terms of not being restrictive, good land use planning, public parks, and even to some extent diversity.
Texas is a pretty diverse state.
Nice update! A video as you walk through Austin would be really nice though. 2c. Best wishes.
Very interesting! I will keep all of this in mind if I ever consider moving to texasn
Lol thanks for watching! ❤️
Yeah… the cost of living in Austin doubled in the last 2 yrs and affordability was the best part for me 🥲 Good luck to u! 🙌🏽
@@girlvamonos Well it's gone upa huge amount because of the massive migration people are doing around thr country. People are moving to Texas, Florida, Nevada Arizona and idaho..among other places so prices get crazy
Isn't Texas really hot several months out of the year ?
Yup. It’s been over 100 for the past few weeks everyday and hasn’t substantially rained in months.
How long will it take for Californias to mess it up
Yes, you should assimilate to the place you chose to move to.
Though on the other hand, you shouldn't have to completely abandon your existing culture.
Truth! She is young tho and has been indoctrinated...so she is fluent in woke double-speak. 😂
@@rop7101 Do any of those white people complain about the lack of diversity?
And, Texas now belongs to the US. Using your parlance, sucks for Mexico.
@@moes5391 Texas is not the west lol
Great comments about the freedom point!
What part of California are you from?
Man can’t wait to come here!
Try visiting Houston, it is way more diverse and is light years ahead in Culture and Arts.
Do you still live in Texas?
Austin, though the capitol of the great state of Texas, is not really Texas. I was a visitor there in 2004 and was shocked to see that even 18 years ago, Austin was already San Francisco light. It was disheartening. So, moving from CA to Austin is like moving to San Fran, just cheaper living and more uncomfortable weather.
you should move back
Are you still in Austin?
I am from California, and you you sound so sound so Cali. I heard that that Austin is expensive?
Thank you for be really honest
i just moved to San Antonio texas from LA. a year ago & i have more cons then pros. pros: is that its cheap. but cons. man. where do i begin. very nice apartment we leased had bugs, i disagree on people being so nice. all the people i work with arent nice. they're rude with no manners. lots of wreckless drivers. a truck hit my car! that never happen in LA despite the crazy traffic!

Austin has lots of diversity. Its not a mostly white city.

Californians assume too much. (I’m being nice)
I think all the Californians that moved

Was in Austin for two months and the racial segregation is unreal. People are pretty blatantly about it too. And the air quality , terrible. Tho with any luck they’ll choke on it. Would serve them right.
People move to texas from california since many parts of texas are like california. Dallas seems like sacramento, and el paso is like palm springs.
California has a good public transportation system especially Northern Cali. It just takes longer to use public transportation just like most places.
