M47D20TU2 (M57 - 2 cylinders) solid engine, had it remapped at 300lb-ft 45K now on 150+K miles with just an uprated FMIC to keep the temps down (cylinder + EGTs). Needed a new turbo at 110K miles and four new injectors. Whilst I do a bit of off-roading in summer it's usually on asphalt at Brands Hatch:-)
For those still wondering. A straight six is the smoothest configuration for an engine this side of a V12. ( A V12 is only two straight sixes together.)
Your 'Outstanding' falls far short of most peoples, it looks just about passible, give him some credit he may have a bad arm, but the welds are not 'Outstanding'
@@sf017s4 It's adequate and does the job, but outstanding no, if you are happy to weld like that good, but once you start you will improve and the welds will look like stacks of dimes, I am not being hard on the standard of welding, have a look around the welding channels, you can see the standards they reach, the more you do the better you get.
Just back from a trip to Morocco in my TD5 camper, 4500 miles in 14 days including 6 x 8 hour driving days just getting to the port and back, TD5 ran absolutely perfectly the whole time, no issues at all, Land Rovers can be reliable but damn it needs more power, I need to look at a remap or win the lottery and get an M57 swap.
Make sure them fan mounts on the rads don’t rub on it in the desert. Mine did back in 2008 after being assured it would be fine by the fan company but it killed the rad. 4000 miles, but limped home through Spain and France.

@@erhardt1477 you would be better off supplying a list e.g. will you supply the engine or do Mahker have to source the engine, when swapping out an engine you might as well do all the preventative maintenance i.e. change all the consumables on the engine, you also should install new turbos or at least reconditioned ones. New turbos on a L322 will cost you £7000 alone parts and labour. This will be at least a 4 week project by the time the engine is removed, rebuilt and all the parts posted out AND are you using brand new parts or reconditioning the turbos for example? are you preppared to pay for OEM parts or are you looking to use Chinese parts? There is no point in him swapping the engine for you only for the turbos to fail a month later and you be hit with another £5000 bill so as a minumum you need to articulate whether you are looking for a full rebuild with new everything parts wise, how old an engine you are willing to accept and how much servcing and preventative mantenance you are willing to undertake. Is this an oppurtune time to refesh the suspension, install new fuel pumps, water pumps, thermostats, starter motors and a whole host of consumables?

@bcbchesney nah just having a bit of fun with you. We realised over Christmas our videos had a lot of content in them but had to limit the title and thumbnail had to be specific to try and work the algorithm to get attention. Slowly we’ve morphed into making more videos from the sane single shoot day so that each are around one topic rather than everything that’s going on in the workshop that week. We’re still learning
Yay fit rusty Bollocks with Bollocks that blows up ! i have worked with both BMW and Landrover and this is not a good combination , great engineering skills though guys ! howerver your just making what failled fast do it quicker and more expencive to fix . great job . waist of time . buy a toyota Hilux or a Nissan Patrol if you want to mount a gun on it or just go off road or go to the shops

DUM DUM bmw products wil just last the warrenty period it is al plastic fantastic. Better use an mercedes toyota or an cummens diesel engine they wil last, i drive an mercedes g wagon from 1982 with the same drive train.

A simple remap completely transforms a td5.

What manual transmission would you mate with the M57? I can't imagine an R380 or LT77 would handle the torque of the M57, especially tuned.
The transmission it came with from the factory - the ZF S6-53DZ

Nnnice! :) what sort of age 90 or 110 is good to convert etc. the etc meaning going to town on it. Is there an age that’s just a little.. too old?
