The thing that made me dislike Lawrence the most was that time she bragged about assaulting a guy in a pub in Budapest on the Seth Meyers show. She talked about how she doused him and his luggage with beer because he was slightly rude to her. She also laughed about the fact that he was later seen in the bathroom crying over his wet belongings. Both her, the host, and the audience found the whole thing acceptable and hilarious. Maybe I don't understand American culture, but this is really fcked up to me.

A lot of the Hollywood celebrities are severely disconnected from reality, it’s one of the main factors why the industry has lost their favors in the last decade. Very similar to the extremists who live in the coastal lines, living in their bubble disconnected from everyone yet encourages bullying behavior.
I was expecting to see this incident in the video lol that's all I think about when I hear the name Jennifer Lawrence
I remember seeing a clip of that episode. I was appalled at how nonchalant everyone acted and laughed at her story. It's sad that she was not held accountable.
As far as being part of America's culture...That's a tough one. America actually many many culture's due to the size. That behavior has repercussions in many places in the US. From a beer in the face, getting popped in the mouth, or an assault charge. Unpopular opinion, there are enough women that are not held accountable for their behavior in the U.S., I am surprised it is not discussed more. We, as a society, talk about men being shit bags all the time.
Now imagine if an actor had told the same story about doing that to a woman. People would give him shit for his behavior and call him a sexist or a misogynist. But Jennifer does it and gets no blowback for her actions.

My husband sat next to Jennifer at a function in NYC. She spoke so rudely about a fuller woman sat next to him. She was the boss of a plus size shapewear company. Jennifer is literally a mean girl.

My daughter spent a day with Anne Hathaway in a work situation, and she said that Anne was very kind to her and real. She said that at the end of the day, Anne gave her a hug and thanked her for spending the day with her. Things have a way of coming to the surface and the public always gets it.
I think your take on Tom Cruise was spot on. Movie stars aren’t loved for who they are, but rather because of the roles they’ve played. When they express their personal opinions, not only do we as an audience not care, we STOP caring, because the fantasy of their character is broken.
An actor’s job is to entertain…nothing more and nothing less
I think there is an interesting element to actors where we do love them in part for who they are, but usually who they are to us is carefully crafted and if they break away from it, they lose our love. I've found it interesting how celebrities have for decades gone on talk shows to promote a movie and they aren't there to act like they're character, they are there to be themselves or the audience's perception of them. The purpose of this is for the audience to like the actor even more which will the increase their likelihood to like the film and character. Part of this could be that many actors have the ability to be so liked naturally that they don't really have to act or they simply have to act in a way that fits with their Hollywood image. The audience's affection for actors in their roles is very strongly tied to their affection for the actor and who they think he/she is, thus it is very important to build up their image and rapport with the audience.

I mean for example, Oprah and Ellen are "beloved", but are really terrible and awful people....probably sociopaths. But have been portrayed as saints helping the little people.
There are very few I could have anything above normal regard for in that industry.
Even in her "relatable" phase Jennifer gave off "I'm not like other girls" vibes and as she got more famous that obnoxious attitude became more noticeable and people started to realise she wasn't as down-to-earth as she pretended to be. I know some people like to say that Emma Stone is in the same boat as Jennifer but from what I can tell Emma has remained classy, kind, and humble for the most part.
Jennifer has become so self-important that it's hard for me to root for her anymore when she keeps spouting nonsense and doubling down on it.

I completly agree, Lawrence never was "relatebale" to me, she seemed like one of the popular mobbing group in school. On the other side Stone, Blunt and Hathaway always came across as the down to earth persons who were more chill and relateable. If you have not seen the famous Norton show clip, search for Emma Stone Spice Girls and you will be in for a treat. Funnylily enough one of the most down to earth actors is there with her: Garfield. :D

She behaved as though she's "not like other girls" or you projected that belief onto her because you perceived that she stood apart with attributes unique to her? Because her aloof, indifferent confidence and candid transparency is/was somewhat unique among her peers, as women are expected to be feminine and deferential and insecure. There's a reason she was perceived as "relatable" by so many people, she seemed different, more casual.
Emma Stone and Anna Kendrick both come to mind as having the same sort of effortless comedic indifference that's endearing, but they kind of "blossomed" into their personalities as they gained experience and more self esteem to share themselves, Jennifer seemed to be unapologetically unbothered straight on the scene which made her appearance a little louder and more conspicuous. That isn't to say she was trying intentionally not to identify with her peers though.
I suppose one could argue the shift in her current demeanor serves as proof of her inauthenticity, but how much older is she now? Natural maturity changes us all, I'd be concerned if she DIDN'T adapt and progress. Not to mention, she had a baby, that's a HUGE shift! When I had my oldest I truly immerged as an entirely different person. It radically shifts your entire outlook and all of your priorities. To me, it just appears as the natural and expected progression of maturity and development.
The “butt rock” incident was what completely turned me off from her, saying this AS A WOMAN. Imagine _knowing_ something is sacred to another culture and using it as your own scratching post like a friggin bear. Nasty.

When I was a kid I literally thought Wednesday Addams was me, I identified myself in Sarah Connor too, Xena, Mulan, Arya Stark... or even Lilo from Lilo & Stitch and I'm a hetero white man. It has never been about the appearence but about the values, the emotions, the character development, the story. And they completely forgot it.
That was such bulls**t when she said that! And yes, I agree with your examples, (don't forget Ripley from Aliens!) She doesn't think before she speaks, I would think. At least a lot of the time.
A lot of men think Ripken form alien is a bad a character. Even the more seemingly female characters men can relate to or think are a good addition. @dgamer She admitted in an interview with Adam Sandler that she has been rude, if not an outright bitch to fans who have approached her in a public place, such as a restaurant, who want an autograph, or maybe a pic. When she (and others) do that, I get they are entitled not to be bothered all the time, but on the other hand, I can't help feel that this is what they signed up for at the same time. I've heard other celebrities such as Mark Wahlberg and Chloe Grace Moretz say "always be nice to your fans, never be rude." I understand that whoever you are, you should be able to enjoy a meal at a public place or somewhere, but it sounds to me that Jennifer Lawrence crossed a line and sent some of her fans packing with a word or gesture that was as effective as it was uncivilized and rude. People who look up to celebrities (actors, singers, yt influencers, etc.) were obviously not brought up with good role models in their life (parents, guardians, etc.) and they have, at some point in their life, filled that void with some entertainment figures who pretend for a living and in-between the pretending spew political nonsense because of their inflated egos which births know-it-all attitudes. These entertainers are more than not people who have no basic knowledge about the world and barely any grasp on reality hence they can teach their admirers nothing much of worth. They can only be a cautionary tale but are not perceived as such. Maybe because more and more children look up to celebs instead of individuals who are truly productive for society, we are seeing such an increase of stupid, entitled people and hollow-at-the-core woke ideology.

@@catstac2542 you can both have good role models and look up to a celebrity for how good they are at something. Just like how you can look up to an athlete, coworker, sibling, or parent. Looking up to someone doesn't inherently mean that it's with an unhealthy mentality nor is it ever inherently exclusive to any one person.
I think I have great parents and look up to them, but I also look up to Ian McKellen or Emily Blunt for their great acting, my coworker for her efficiency, all athletes professional or not for their dedication and skill and my fricking car mechanic for his honesty and reliability.
As someone who works as a college journalist, the guy might’ve just had his questions written on his phone. Reminders are a good way to keep track of that.

My respect for Hathaway just went up several notches. My God, she actually *gets* it. I mean, she's always been a fine actress and a luminous presence; I never heard that much about her as a person. But hearing that she understands she owes fame to an audience that was willing to show up to see her... As crazy as it is that such perspective seems rare in Hollywood these days... Makes it that much easier to want to see her performances.

I loved Jennifer in The Hunger Games and I used to find her relatable. But then I also heard some stories about her from the time she was shooting Red Sparrow. I was told she was very rude, the staff wasn't supposed to look at her and she would constantly be on her phone (quite ironic whatching her scold that guy for being on his phone). Right before shooting, she would put the phone down only to "forget" where she put it, and during the breaks, all of the staff had to look for her phone - repeatedly. I was so shocked to hear this stuff about her. Then after the movie was released, she bragged in an interview about pouring beer on a fan that asked her for a photo, while being in my country. I lost all my respect for her. She can blame the patriarchy all she wants, it was her own personality that destroyed her carreer (and possibly the downfall of her patron). Not that she will ever admit it to herself.

Jen's greatest strength is also her biggest weakness: her lack of curation/filters. You can have a bad day, low adrenaline and whatnot, but your interactions stay online forever. None of this has gone too much, she still can reel it back in. Anne has cracked the code on the other hand, just the right amount of curation hitting the sweet spot.

I never got why everyone thought she was some kind of great actress. Hunger Games she played a character who isn't allowed to emote because the tyranny she lives in will punish her. I never got the hype either. She always came off as trying too hard to seem likable. And she constantly would get drunk in interviews and tell so many drunk stories that she comes off as a borderline alcoholic hiding behind a bunch of “funny” anecdotes.

I haven't seen many movies starring Jennifer Lawrence, but when she rose to popularity I inevitably saw a lot of interviews and appearances. Something always felt off and dishonest about her. Her more recent behavior doesn't surprise me. It takes energy to keep up a mask and it is inevitable that when you appear publicly as often as she did, that mask would start to eventually slip.
Jennifer talking about assaulting someone for being rude to her is what made me see her in different light. Look I get it, she was drunk and acted stupid but when she told the story she was extremly proud of it and boasting about it. Jennifer talking about it as if he deserved getting assaulted because he said fuck you is what I dont get it.
At this point, I’m really tired of actress’s in Hollywood complaining about ✨patriarchy✨ (including some male actors) when not only we’ve brought a lot of progress in the west, had a lot of “strong female characters” in past films but also they don’t understand there women other countries who actually live in “patriarchal” society and these famous ladies get payed with millions of dollars and live a privileged life.

How an actress that was paid over a hundred million dollars over the course of two years can talk nonsense about an imaginary patriarchy trying to oppress her is beyond me. 99.99% of the male population of this planet would have switched places with her without hesitating for a second.

The ending with Anne made me think about how I met Jennifer Lawrence when she first did a press tour for Hunger Games and how she was so happy and so giving to her fans. I couldn't imagine that 13 year old me meeting her now with that attitude and how I would feel.
I've seen interviews of Anne when she was younger and she was honest and funny and lighthearted and confident. I think then she started to feel very self conscious, trying to react and say what people expected. Do the right thing. I'm so happy that she's back to being confident and more relaxed
Lawrence just seemed to grow in entitlement as she grew in popularity as opposed to Anne, who even during her "bad year" seemed more like she was trying to do and say everything people expected of her, as opposed to taking the audience for granted or seeming annoyed with her fame.
And the thing is, those 3 years where Jennifer Lawrence was gone? no one really missed her. we're as disconnected from her as she seems to be from us at this point.
The other person who no one apparently missed is Julia Roberts. Sure her new movie did well, but it's clear based on her comeback then audiences arent as receptive as her as she was back in the 90s. Ergo, her charm is wearing off. Same as Lawrence and probably (i hate to say it), Emma Stone. I think once you get an Oscar and get box office hits, theres nothing else to look forward to your peak but going down and for women who have been effortless put up in a pedestal, they are not used to anything else hence they feel like a failure that leads them to a crisis and being jealous of upcoming Hollywood talents and still-working actresses.

She's part of pop culture, an icon with a much bigger and longer movie career. But just like anything in life, there is an end date to being a succesul working star. And Roberts reached that ending. Sure, She does a movie once in a while, namely when Clooney gets her out of hiding but she's pretty much retired at this point.
I do agree about Stone, though. Both her and Lawrence have boarded the hasbeen train.
Also I kind of disagree about Oscar wins and box office success spelling the end for actresses. Look at Cate Blanchet, for example. Two Oscar wins, bankable actress, She just turned in one of the greatest female performances ever committed to screen in Tar.
I think the reality is, as much as people might enjoy JLaw and Stone, or even Roberts, they aren't really as versatile or deep as actors as they would need to be to turn in memorable performances in every movie they make. There's a lot of instances where JLaw was swamped by the material she couldn't really perform properly.

I think the releasing of the private photos definitely was a hard pill to absorb. I am not a fan, but having personal photos shared and then criticized is pretty awful. This definitely had to change her as a person.

To her credit, she was VERY good at playing that character because she fooled almost everybody. I only know of one random TH-cam commenter who thought it was all an act and even they admitted that they weren't sure if their assumption was right. Personally i think there's layers to it. The first falling and goofy rooky behavior i think was real doe to the big company she was among being a fish out of water. It would be really interesting to see a part 2 to this where you go in-depth into her relationship with Weinstein. We all know that she owns her career to him but I wonder how involved he was in each aspect of her career. I suspect that she probably wouldn't have "Oscar-winner" tacked onto her name if it wasn't for him but I think there's a lot to uncover in that "work relationship" that Jennifer doesn't want anyone knowing about.

Crazy when you watch Hunger Games and seeing the main actors, who got their first role in the franchise, become bigger through the years whilst Jennifer has faded into obscurity.
That's odd the because besides Jennifer Lawrence, I can only remember a few established actors like Julianne Moore, Woody Harrelson, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Donald Sutherland and Stanley Tucci. The only other young actors I remember are Isabelle Fuhrman & Liam Hemsworth. The 2010's belonged to J-Law until two flop movies and her 3 year hiatus.

In relationships the thing you like the most about someone is the thing you end up hating the most in the long run. For example you might like someone for being really funny but end up hating that they don't take anything seriously. This happened with J-Law. It was so refreshing how real and unscripted she was until eventually we remembered why celebrities are usually so scripted (to prevent the silly, out-of-touch opinions that they would normally say from coming out).
My favorite story of the kindness and common sense and decency of an actor: A man came up to James Stewart and said something like "You know Mr. Stewart, this probably doesn't mean anything to you, but your acting and career has meant a lot to me and...." His answer: "OMG, no it means EVERYTHING to me, everything." They make very few actors, athletes etc like this anymore.
This whole part in 4:14 made me feel very uncomfortable to watch. Nonono, I hate when some people act like how Jennifer did, when others are probably just trying they're best not to get tongue tide or are nervous and she just publicly shames him and embarrasses him. For real, my sister worked on the sets for both the 1st & 2nd Hunger Games. Even all these years later, I remember the stories upon stories of how awful Jennifer was to work with.
The 1st movie, the few second clip where Katniss spins in her dress as it "catches fire"? It took 3 DAYS because Jennifer "couldn't do it" got mad, and stormed offset, literally leaving for the entire day, because she couldn't spin in a circle for the shot!! (Go back to that mark in the movie, while "spinning" Jennifer's facial expression says it all. But you'll notice the shots keep cutting, because they couldn't get one continuious shot and had to edit together her attempts) My sister said 10's of thousands $$$ being wasted on set due to Jennifers attitude with mutiple senarios like this. When the director would call action/start rolling film, other actors would jump into rolls, but Jennifer wouldn't care and just kept talking/goofing around! The director had to call "Jennifer, Jennifer... JENNIFER!" Or anything possible to get her to focus. "Like working with a toddler with ADHD." Was the comment. When youre already working 12-16 hour filming days, and it's costing more $$$ to the budget, time is very precious to the crew. The director and set crew were exasperated with her attitude and disrespect for everyone else's time.
At the very 1st Hunger Games movie, she was already entitled... (for example, she had her assistant sort through M&M's to take out "the colors I don't like" before Jennifer would eat them. Do they even have a different taste?! And that was only 1 of 50 different weird things she made her assistant do.)
The major issue was seeing how nasty/demeaning her comments were to Josh Hutcherson! "Oh you're gonna comment on acting? Tell that to my Oscar." She literally said to Josh's face when he voiced his opinion on trying something out for a sence. She made it VERY clear all the awards SHE had that he didn't have... and Josh just took it without saying anything. (Funny how Jennifer exuded more "toxic masculinity" than her actual male costars) My sister said working with Josh was a joy, because Josh was extremely professional, polite, and focused. So the film crews/extras loved him because he DIDN'T WASTE ANYONE'S TIME and didnt act entitled. He never lost his processional demenor with Jennifer's repeated rudeness. But Jennifer was refularly rude to her co-stars, crew, extras, directors, ect while onset. (Go watch Liam Hemsworths interviews about working with Jennifer, and he struggles to talk about it, and dances around the topic. Mentions instances like Jennifer burping into his mouth after a kiss scene. Disgusting. Rude.)
No one could do anything about her behavior to correct her. She had zero fear of being fired over her immaturity. My sister was amazed Jennifer kept the role in the 1st Hunger games after the first few weeks of filming. But it became very clear the director wasn't in a position to fire Jennifer for things other actors/actresses would LONG BEFORE gotten the boot over! Long before the Harvey scandel, the set crew knew she had powerful connections to get/keep these roles. (My theory is, she acted so nonchalant because she had backing with Harvey. We heard her repeatedly atribute HIM as backing her to get awards/roles during acceptance speeches. Other actors/ actresses are more uptight in what they say/do since they don't have a powerful/rich/influential person backing them. Not only in hollywood, but also controlling media outlets and news generated about Jennifer.)

(My brother worked on the Guardians set, and vouched Chris was highly professional, focused, pulled extremely long hours, and had a good reputation amoung the crew. I was going to mention TC just before you guys did. He's a perfect example though. He stopped making it about him and just about the work, the audience, and the cast and crew. He's the biggest movie star in the world because of what he gives to the audience members, not because of what he necessarily believes in or how he feels about certain things. That's personal stuff. His public persona is on point.
Her leaks is what destroyed her career. She tried playing the whole fake persona 'girl next door' type. The 'quirky relatable' one. Then hundreds of her images leaked and people quickly realized she's fake. Only a massive narcissist takes that many pics and some were even of her sitting on multiple different types of couches, which lead to the whole 'casting couch' rumor.
The big distinction between these two women is that Anne is coming from a place of gratitude, whereas Jennifer is coming from a place of entitlement. Somewhere along the rise to the top, Jennifer acquired a massive ego, or perhaps she had it all along and just didn’t show it. I also feel like a big thing that celebrities forget is that they’re not really more special or smart than the rest of us, and that we only want to them to entertain us - we don’t want to hear their woke opinions on politics or current events!

The thing is, and this is not defending Hathaway, but when you act all the time, sometimes being authentic is extremely hard, and you feel very uncomfortable doing it, it makes it seem to everyone as you are lying and being false. It is something a lot of actors deal with; they lose that ability to convey real emotion even if they feel it. As in trying not to act, they come across as incredibly false.
What bugs me about her is that she once claimed in an interview that she didn't want to be relevant forever, yet here she is trying too hard to stay relevant and if she's frustrated with that, then maybe she should actually fade into irrelevancy like she supposedly wanted.
I have always thought Jennifer's Oscar win behavior was a performance (at another award ceremony, she fell down a second time) and what we saw later was the real Jennifer. When she attempted her come back, she was trying to be on her best behavior but in the end, she has decided she will simply continue to be the privileged, self centered (now woke) person who at her core thinks she knows knows better and is better than everyone else.

The reason for her decline is her best friend Harvey. Interesting as it is her fame vanished the same day Harvey did. I'm sure her friendship did extend in various fronts in personal and private space, given Harvey's reputation in Hollywood where everyone is engaged in group think and blind to reason. Before the slap heard around the world there was deed heard around the world.

I’m so happy you talked about this. Honestly when she gave that interview about being the first action star, I was kind of done with her. I couldn’t understand why she would say that. It’s such a lie. There’s so many great female stars who have lead movies I don’t understand the fixation on what “woman don’t have” I don’t understand. We all deal with the cards we are dealt and times for women are better then they have ever been. I wish she acted a little more grateful..

Disney movie would not be as popular as they are I'd that were the case, and they have overwhelming numbers of female leads.
The lead does not matter, what does matter is how they fit the role and the action and story being told.
As someone who lived through very hard times for women when attitudes were very different, I appreciate your comment that times are, indeed, better than they've ever been. Ive seen the progress in a relatively short amount of time. Women are exactly where they hoped to be. It is insulting to those of us who lived through real push back to hear these senseless rants about "glass ceilings." My daughters can do exactly what they want to if they do the work. I'm so grateful.

Ed O'Neil did the same mistake after being Al Bundy for a over a decade, a role that made him a millionaire and made him a desirable actor, he was getting testy when people call him Al in public by replying "MY NAME IS ED!". He realized that he was being a moron, he owed everything to that role and the fans who loved it. Ed is a legend and AL BUNDY FOR PRESIDENT!
I hate the assumption the boys can't identify with a female lead. There are plenty of female characters that all the boys loved: Dory, Helga G. Pataki, Trinity, Sarah Conor, The Bride, Ripley, Princess Fiona, Hermione, The Powerpuff Girls, and every character from Mean Girls.
Pretty much any Disney/Pixar animated heroine or Disney Channel sitcom had great female characters.
Audiences just don't like when it's shoved down their throats like Rey or Captain Marvel.
I was thinking critically of her up until you said she doesn’t have social media. Being the class clown is great for everyone else but when you don’t wanna do that anymore cus you’re worn out, no one wants you to be serious. Kind of makes you dislike people and put the bare minimum effort into others. It looks different on everyone but I can relate
She was basically pushed so hard by those around her to be this real, edgy Americas sweetheart role that she inevitably started trying too hard and just became a pastiche of herself
Imagine doing interviews with people poking at your looks, likes or personal relationships often without tact instead of the film your trying to promote, week after week + overzealous dudes in party mode (who relate to one of your characters) barging over expecting a selfie - like a thousand times a week. Actors should humble up like all humans should when it comes to fame and fortune. Nothing lasts forever. Have to bring this back to Johnny Depp. The reason why he has so many devoted fans throughout his career is simply because he knows that they bought the tickets and they’re the real boss.
I think a lot of people can't really grasp the idea of suddenly not being able to go places where other people are without getting recognized and approached by all kinds of strangers - some handle it better than others, which isn't too shocking. Also, Jennifer Lawrence got to a place that even other famous people rarely get to in that regard. I don't think I'd like it all the time, either... but then again, I'm not seeking fame.

I was reading her biography on Wikipedia and something really stuck out to me and made a lot of sense as to why she most likely is the way she is: "She has two older brothers, Ben and Blaine. Her mother raised her to be "tough" like her brothers, and would not allow her to play with other girls in preschool, as she deemed her "too rough" with them." No wonder she has always come off as such a "pick-me girl".
That’s why I’ve been called a “pick me” as well. I have an older brother who is 2 and a half years older than me. I grew up playing with him and his friends because they were closer in age to me than their sisters were. I prefer being around guys because they seem more real than most women I have met. Other than one girl, who is my best friend, all the girls in my classes were backstabbers. They would get me to confide in them and then spread my secrets. This isn’t me bashing women. This is just me explaining why I don’t really befriend other girls easily.

@khfan4life365 lol ever wonder if maybe you're the problem? If every woman you meet is an asshole everywhere you go, then maybe the common denominator is you? Frankly, ever pick me female I've ever had the unfortunate circumstance of meeting has always been absolutely awful. Like thirsty beyond belief, corny, rude, and incredibly disloyal and backstabby and obsessed with dick. Other women end up seeing how insane and dickmatized pick me's are and run far in the other direction. Never met a pick me who wasn't nasty and full of drama. And perpetually jealous to boot lol.
I was also raised with two brothers and that kind of excluded me from the girls, because I was raised with the characteristics of a boy and it also excluded me from the boys, because I wasn't a boy after all so I was always kind of in the middle. This was though in school, because I was constantly bullied. Today I approach both genders openly, but as I grew up it made friendships with woman so hard. I also remember some years back when I told a guy I had two older brothers he instantly nodded and said "Ohhhh, that makes sense. Like, your whole approach. You're not like the other girls." To me being "not like the others girls" is no compliment as I thought it was in my teenage years, when being different was the goal.
My aunt and uncle live in the Louville Kentucky are and know JL's parents. In the beginning of her career my relatives wouldn't shut up about how great Jen is. Now they don't talk about her at all because of how much she has changed and her behavior towards her parents. She has turned into a Hollywood Woke Wako.

i started disliking her after she did a video talk with Tom Hanks. They were discussing fans and autographs. Jennifer said that she doesn’t do it for her fans basically implying that people are annoying to her and she says “i’m off today” (as if she has a day off at work). She treats interaction with her fans as her job duty, which is weird. Whole Tom said he has no problems with fans asking for pics and autographs whenever.
Jennifer seems like she tries too hard.
