Easily one of the best examples of late game Zerg versus Protoss. Both players continously try to set each other up for mistakes. In the end we see compositions based around the Ultralisk, Brood Lord, Infestor and Corruptors with a whole lot of Spore Crawlers on the ground going up against High Templar in Warp Prisms and a lot of Carriers cloaked by a Mothership.
In this video I cast an epic match of professional StarCraft 2. A Zerg versus Protoss between ShoWTimE and Nerchio.

that was a nice move, getting a nice eco lead !
I know. I never thought of that before but I’m gonna start doing that from now on when taking a gold base of if I have a large amount of excess probes at another base. Gives a substantial, very quick eco boost
So good to see Nerchio still at high level of play for such a long period of time.
He was already at the top level in 2010 and he still is.

That was a pretty slick game. Being a casual SC 2 player at best, I am clearly in the perfect position to tell Nerchio what he did wrong in this hindsight. About half-way through, when Showtime was trying to establish that forth base, as his home, gold, and natural were mined/next to mined out--Nerchio kept pressuring and kept knocking down the Nexus. Showtime wasn't able to pressure at all, or amass any forces, because he couldn't keep a base up. For whatever reason, Nerchio stopped the pressure even though it seemed economically, he could outlasted the Protoss army. Then again, when I play Starcraft, my APM peeks at 30, so, what do I know.

keeping those burrowed zerglings sleeping near a vulnerable mineral line and forgetting to research their upgrade was a big mistake and gave protoss the opportunity to catch a break
APM is just a number -Kappa
thing is = SC is a game of imperfect information, keep that in mind, if you don't scout it you cannot know, or know too late what's going on in the opponent's base.. we as a spectator have the God Mode view of things, but the players themselves have only the vision of their own units so it's quite understandable some of the hesitations

Your insight in the game is not ''limited by apm'', only your ability to EXECUTE orders, defend, harrass etcetera suffers from it.
Don't grovel and lower yourself, most pros are really good at executing but they make stupid mistakes, forget upgrades or scouting too.
Some pros only seem to be good at executing 2 or 3 build orders that they have mechanically mastered.
If your EPM is a high percentage of APM and you get it up to 75/100 you could get into plat/diamond.
Dude, I barely got into SC2 this month just because it went free, I LOVE your videos, your commentary is indepth enough that I see more seasoned players talking about what you say, but, easy enough for me to understand as a brand new player, keep it up! easy sub even though I dont play more than 1 game a week =)

Lowko you seriously need to consider becoming a commentator for any blizzard game.
I love these maps with fewer bases (less than 14). I find that they add such an intense element and seem to lend towards epic games.

Or just kept them as Corruptors to snipe the carriers
He didn’t have the eco to replace them. Some vipers/corruptors would’ve been better but he couldn’t make them, and the broodlords were better than nothing
Yea, Nerchio ran out of money to replace bloodlords. In a game of rock papper scissors, he draw the wrong hand.

not enough money for nerchio, in addition, no real upgrades on air and only 1 ground armor upgrade.

The Infestors were a good call, but he really needed Vipers so he could pick off the Carriers. Also he really should've kept some Corruptors on hand and played with those Lings in the Protoss base. ShowTime did a great job in this match

Never let the Protoss get 17 carriers and a mothership. That is a tough army to deal with.

Also lowko, if you can cast a pro game from someone’s camera instead of observer mode, everyone can learn stuff from one player. For example, you can cast nerchio from his angle and understand why he is defeated.
I think you should have a "just a matter of seconds" counter. It would be slightly hilarious :D

Why didn’t Nerchio build corrupters?
I wish the way this software tracked APM was more accurate, saying someone is at 1500 APM when only 400 of those are consequential must be of putting for new players. Multiplayer is the core of most RTS games and they're going to think that supercomputers are playing this game online. 1500 APM is 25 actions per second, and I know that's not happening.
You can actually hear the handful of words that make up his vocab in just a matter of seconds.

In my times, the carriers pushed so hard. Now, the style is "go and back". Infestors, a problem since WoL :/

Not gonna lie: I really enjoy seeing Banelings blow the shit out of worker lines.
In that final battle, I think zerg could have tried to continue sitting back further with the infestors instead of rushing forward for neural parasite and getting mass stormed. If those infestors sat back and just fungal growth chain, the interceptors would not be able to dps well because they need to move and attack. Those interceptors would also not be able to retreat. And there's nothing on the ground like immortals or zealots to help kill spore crawlers faster. The brood lords can zone out the high templars a bit.
Just my opinion, but I think nerchio could have made it much much harder for showtime in that last battle. If you look at the carriers' interceptors count by the end, it was quite low. I think some of them might even have died to self storm. Showtime probably would still have done well because of his gas bank, but I felt that Nerchio could have held that last battle.

This was a Zerg vs. Protoss match. Maybe you mean Protoss? If so I agree, but they are, in my opinion, the hardest race to play (even though I'm a Zerg).

In the late game there, when the Zerg is just sitting around spore crawlers, can anyone explain to me why the protoss sits there poking with carriers instead of just going above/below them and starting to hit bases? Surely the units then have to either move to defend or attack in return, and if they do that they're vulnerable outside the spore crawlers.

Lowko, would it have been possible for Nerchio to get a bunch of corrupters? Or was he too hard pressed economically to make them? He was way under 200 for the last part of the match.
the counter is the viper you pull the mothership into the spores and the static defense does the anti air
he made corruptors, but he mutated them into broodlords (which didn't help againsin the end carriers)
Nerchio didn’t have enough eco for vipers, which are the TRUE AA, the viper pulls the unit, spores and infested terrains clean it up. He over committed on broodloods in an attempt to counter the ground army. In the late game the broodlords were pointless
The real mistake he made is he assumed that Toss was going to transition heavily into colossus and that just was not the case he built way too many ultras and they did not do enough doing so put him in a scenario where he was running out of resources and made a second run at ultras when he should have focused on getting out 2-3 vipers which is all he would have needed.

I'm a little new to the game. How do you see the icon of the current spawning slot on those buildings? like you can see the unit icon on the building itself without clicking on it. How can I achieve that?

Why didn't Nerchio get vipers? He was on the defensive and relying on those spore crawlers so why not pull protoss units into the spore crawlers? In hindsight Nerchio focused too much on those brood lords probably thinking that showtime had an archon ground force as well.

Plural of Nexus is either Nexus (long u) or Nexuses, but NOT Nexi.
as noob. sometimes i feel like if pro players threw down a few spore crawls on the edges they might prevent more scouting. i know that static is considered a waste but sometimes it seems that 2 spores on each base might be worth it. of course this is me looking on a game from spectator mode.

Newbie here but can someone explain to me why Nerchio never sacked his broodlords and replaced them with Vipers/Corrupters instead?
He didn’t have the resources to do it. Protoss managed to kill enough Zerg so that in the late game Zerg didn’t have enough resources to reinforce his army
So it was just a matter of Toss being more cost effective then?

How does "ultra + broodlord" can be a response to "mass carrier" for so long ?!
I call "mind game" on this one, because Showtime should have won very early on this one.
I don't know a lot about zerg since I main protoss, but I do know that the ultra can't attack air units. Basic fundamentals.
Has neural parasite ever work?
Yes. Just recently there was a game where maxed Skytoss was slaughtered by three Parasiters and some yanks

I remember being a fan of nerchio during HoTS :) I was a diamond zerg player back then and loved watching pro zerg players all the time. My all time favorite was Stephano but he ended up quiting to go to college. IdRa was awesome too but his attitude sucked.
So I was listening to this game and only half-watching it. I totally thought the Zerg's name was NerdShow. Anyone else?

Remeber the game a zerg winning woth broodlord onfestor viper against airtoss and erverybody cried "Zerg so op"? So watch this: Showtime used his hightemplar the correct way he wins.!! (Watch those storms). In the other game the protoss didnt used a single atorm against something other then infested terrans (im talking about the last minuts) so he lost. Lategame is all about spellcasters. You can fight carrier only with viper infestor corrupter. You can fight ANY ground army with some standard lowtech ground units and 2or 3 good/perfect storms(only if there are ultras you need archons or immortals). With hje preupdate ravens it was the same(im talking about the perfect use of ervery spellcaster). So in the late ALL is about spellcasters.(My opinion)

As protoss should I upgrade shield? Or armor? I'm new
most units have more hp than shields, shields recharge anyway. so it's more bang for the buck
If a unit loses all its shields, it’s not big deal, but if a unit loses all its life, it’s dead. Armor decreases life damage taken, while shields decrease shield damage taken. Armor is more likely to keep your units from dying. A unit surviving with even 1hp is great if your P, so keeping your units alive for as long as possible after the shields drop is imperitive
What about for zergs? From the evolution chamber?
Should I upgrade range or armor?
Range is for only certain units,, so depending on your army. Let's say if it's mostly hydras, then take range first. The general rule of thumb is, offensive upgrades before defensive upgrades.
