      Great that you enjoy the time in China. Noth: Beijing/Tianjing/Dongbei Sansheng(3 northern provinces); Middle: Wuhan city, Qingdao city, Hefei city, Nanchang city); South coastal areas: Hongkong, Shenzhen city, Guangzhou city, Foshan city, Zhongshan city, Xiamen city near Taiwan Island; Southwest: Yun'na province, Guizhou province, Tibet etc; East: Shanghai city, Nanjing city, Hangzhou city, Suzhou city. These are big city/economic clusters close to each other and that's better for your trip planning. China ia a bit country to explore.

    The insect is a cricket. They kept them as pet, "singing" and also for competitions. Cricket culture was reflected in the Disney cartoon Mulan as well.

      @@JayandKarolina not cricket but katydid. its two wings rubber each other and create loud noise louder than your home ring bell. the sound gives you nature feelings and zen feelings in your quiet room. the insect is green like jade or black like iron and it can crawl calmly on your hand and arm. I mean it will not jump away. many katydid lovers would keep them inside their coat in a small container in winter and enjoy the noise when the insect feel secure and happy.

    I absolutely LOVE Peking Duck. The place you visited is relatively new. When I was last in Beijing I went to Quanjude with a friend. Duck pancakes & shots of Erguotou make for an excellent evening 😂😂

    when you call DiDi, the map will show you that you need wait at the specific location for the car coming. because for some locations car aren't allowed to stop.
    the same thing for the shared bike, you need rent and return the shared bike at the specific location.

      I know that English fluency of Mainland China is rather low but I thought students that have English as one of the main subjects should be able to converse in simple English or understand basic words at the very least

    It seems that you have done a lot of preparation, Beijing is mostly a cultural spot, if you know little about history, you may only see a bunch of houses, of course, these ancient buildings are also beautiful.     Doesn't Karolinai have a mobile phone? If both of you have mobile phones. Alipay has a QR code for riding. You don’t need to buy a ticket. You can just swipe the QR code on your phone to take the subway. When you use mobile payment for a period of time, you will hate annoying coins and dirty banknotes when you return home Country.

      Yes, we've heard that it's the most convenient option to move around! :) However, just 1 day before arriving, I had got a new phone and long story short my SIM card was destroyed - meaning I don't have any of the SIM cards atm which makes everything so much more difficult haha [Karolina]

      That should be tree but it usually means you need to provide your personal info and register the membership, etc. It will not directly cost your money, but not totally free if you concerns about your privacy.

    China's restaurant culture is that the more people there are, the better the food will be, but the louder the voices will be, so be tolerant. This is completely different from Western restaurant culture. If you want to eat delicious food in the future, you must go to a crowded store. Although a shop with few people is quiet, the taste will be average.

      Beijing is not a complete picture of China. The same as London is not really UK and New York is not completely US. Especially you are just doing tourist stuff.

    You don't need to pay extra for tax and tips in China. The amount is thetotal you need to pay.

    Before you leave, make sure to visit Niujie! It's the heart of the Hui Muslim community and you can try a lot of snacks you can't find in other parts of China. The people are really nice there too.

    It is great you both went to China and see the real China. The hotel you stayed was a one or two star hotel which only offer a place to stay, mostly for low cost travel. For other visitors, I would recommend at least a 4 star hotel or other US chain hotel, it would be more comfortable.

    Damn refreshing to see so many TH-cam travel folks visiting China and shedding some light on what the country is actually like, rather than believing the constant drivel they are drip fed from the media. The Forbidden City and Beijing as a whole is beautiful, frenzied, chaotic and magical in the same breath. You really need to experience it at least once in your lifetime for at least a week.

    u can refuse the marketing of detergents, which it's okay. Some sellers deliberately stain your clothes/shoes with no pre-alarm and then try to exhibit how great their products are, which incurs disgust. A common street phenomenon

    the duck dessert is egg pudding/egg custard. i live in US and boba places have that as alternative to boba/grass jelly etc. if you sprinkle a layer of sugar and torch it you got creme brulee pretty much. same list of ingredients with small adjustment in consistency and texture.

    Wow! The Peking Duck restaurant, cannot be found on Google using their English name Sheng Fu Nian! I had to search using the Chinese name 北京 盛福年!
    And it is in the vicinity of Wang Fu Jing! The prices are so so reasonable!
    If I ever head to Beijing, I will surely go eat there! Thanks A Million Jay & Karolina!

    the way u guys ate Peking Duck back in ur place which by using your hands were absolutely correct lol we are all using our hands to eat that pancake roll rather than using the chopsticks just like grabbing pizza without using forks and knives. and just shove that thing in ur mouth cuz the duck skin and meat plus those veggies are all not easy to bite into halves so just enjoy it like it's the Chinese version of pizza roll. hope u guys are having fun in China and if u could just don't miss Xi'an, we got tons of specialties for u guys to discover!
