I am not sure things will change that much. A lot of the mess Disney is in, was started by Iger, like focusing on premium guests, overusing IP and getting very political. I hope I am wrong but time will tell. Very happy for the new parents and prayers for Panda’s family.
So many people seem to be trending toward Disney cruises over the parks. I go to Disney/Universal for the rides but if you like characters, theming and food, then cruise line is the way to go.
You guys nailed it by saying Iger’s a political strategist. I always liked Iger. However, Chapek took over at the worst possible time. Most of the issues he dealt with were created by the pandemic and… Iger! The Disney+ and Fox expenses were Iger’s direction. The main difference, to me, is that Iger understands Disney and Disney fans better, and when he made decisions to increase prices, the core fans all accepted it. When Chapek started increasing prices, he did it by “nickel and diming” experiences that had been free. And he didn’t have the persona or the PR help to make those changes palpable… Iger will make us all feel better, but many of the problems Chapek dealt with were created by Iger and the pandemic. Not sure how this is gonna go!
100% agree Pete, people need to temper their expectations. Iger isn't going to change things immediately or nearly as much as people want. Genie+, park reservations aren't going away anytime soon, dining plan isn't coming back.
No doubt Sunday evening was hectic all around for Disney. The changing of CEOs, Elton John’s livestream concert, and the controversy of cancelling Chris Brown’s Michael Jackson tribute at the American Music Awards. I hope Bob Iger writes another book because I have to know his pov and his experience about that night and the days leading up to it.
Great episode, I know Pete was chomping at the bit for this conversation. I have doubt Genie+ goes away as I cannot imagine this was dreamed up under Chapek's time. He wasn't around long enough to implement sweeping change that wasn't penciled in somewhere. This wasn't a right fit for him, he didn't navigate his duties well, but it's also important to remember there is a board of highly motivated people whose main focus is keeping stock trending in the right direction because nothing happens without staying in the black. It doesn't matter if it's Iger, Eisner, or Walt resurrected, if they cannot please the board & shareholders, they won't be around long anymore. Us DISnerds will keep giving the Mouse our money just about no matter what.
I really hope Iger Brings back the Magic!! give us some thing to look forward to in April when we go back! ill take resort parking fee taken away or better yet fast passes !!
Dont know much about the runnings of Disney . But , it’s funny to hear someone say that someone is a great politician and then say that person is sincere in the same sentence !!! Yep , that’s a great politician all right !!!
Don’t give Iger a free pass. Magic express cancellation, reservations, genie plus, have all been in the works since the later Iger years. Chapek was his direct report. Iger always got a free pass before because he’s likable and the pre-2012 park era was great but he has to be held accountable by the fans like Chapek was. Then maybe things will get better.
This reminds me of a Hallmark Christmas movie. The adult child goes off to the big city and then returns home for Christmas only to find out the family business, (usually a tree farm or country Inn) is having financial trouble. He/She has to stay and "fix" the family business. All of the employees and town folks live happily ever after....LOL, We'll see, it is Christmas after all.
Condolences to John. Congratulations to Craig & Kylie. Mr. Iger please bring back full housekeeping, package delivery to the resorts and remove 2pm park hopper rule.
Want to throw a quick and effective bone to Disney fans? Magical Express...Resort luggage delivery...get it back. Pronto. They can buy that Flyer company out and use their busses.....lol Teresa just said it while I was watching.
Letting you schedule lightning lane early is defacto reservation as with the old fast passes. For whatever they left that out of genie plus, thus reservations
Don't expect an overnight turnaround. It will take a bit, but I do believe the company will become more guest/consumer centric. Get rid of Genie+, park reservations, obscene price increases, $6000 for less than 48 hours in a Star Wars hotel, etc. The company made money when it put guests first. They can do it again.
If you think prices are going back down you’re out of your mind. Yearly price increases have been around for pretty much all of Iger’s first go at CEO. the prices will stay the same, however I do see Iger making it so we get more value for that price than what Chapek was giving us.
Boy oh boy, I'm excited for this episode!!! Congratulations on the baby, Craig & Kylie!!! 💙💙💙 Disney is a soap right now & I LOVE it! "Disney" has lost sight of the big picture. "When the guest experience is better the money will follow." I want my AP back! Let me give you $1K in May! You're really going to turn down money?! Free FastPass is gone for good. At the very least, add Genie to APs.
Iger is the one who told families like mine we weren’t wanted at Disney World starting 7 years ago. Just to make the parks less crowded for the rich people.
Yes, and I’m curious why people believe he’s going to come in and turn everything back around in favor of families. The difference is that Iger being the politician is going to pat us on the back and make us feel good about being screwed over.
Pete is right about new ship not running from Florida on top of existing. Basic rules of economics increase supply = reduction in price. Price only remains static if the balance between supply and demand remains balanced. In short term the likes of Craig will want to experience it but that is short term and can also move some demand from other ships.
Yes!! The whole point of getting it early was part of the benefit of staying on property. They talked about how the new system was more "fair" for everybody, but if you're shelling out the money to stay on Disney property, which let's face it, it's a LOT more than off property, you SHOULD get the upper hand in the experience bypass system. Why stay on property when you can have the same benefits as on-site guests? The only perk to on-site guests at this point is the 7am bookings, but when you're paying all that money you should be able to have more guaranteed bookings for experiences. I would love to see them allow on-site guests the ability to book in advance and also be able to book 3 experiences per day like the FPP system. Bringing back on-site perks like that would definitely be a smart move!
I don’t think I’ve ever seen Pete so jolly. I loved Eisner. Slightly eccentric in some ways but creativity was his mantra. He made Disney World what it is today. Things like insisting on all the best architects to build all the best hotels. Chapek was a disaster, destroying Disney. Why would any normal company want to alienate its number one fans? Demand too big ? Supply more ! Don’t piss off your net promoters! Josh D’Amaro went along with Chapek, he could have refused and stood by different principles. He should go.
I think Iger was hired mostly (to quote a Disney classic) to make the medicine go down easier. In other words don’t expect a complete turn around but look for him to soften the blow a bit. Prices aren’t going to come way down.
Truthfully, the only thing I see really being changed under Iger right now is the reservation system. Yes, it does benefit the company, but it benefits in the way that they can schedule the bare minimum of cast members and make their life more difficult with less support. So what’s the best way to gain back both your audience and cast members morale? Get rid of the thing that affects them both. Other then that, I think it’ll be very minimal for at least the first year he’s CEO.
Sincere condolences to John/Panda on the loss of his family member. 🙏😔💔 Congratulations Craig & Kylie on the birth of your little one. 👶🤱👣💙🍼 Bob Isner will whip Disney back into shape. This isn't an overnight thing. It will take time. Oh it was definitely a firing!

Park ressies are a way that they can keep & manage the absolute min staff at the parks to correlate against max profit based on park pop.
Great Show as always! Happy Thanksgiving to the DIS Crew!
How about reinstate Magical Express, bring the magic back to the start of the vacation
Genie plus makes everyone’s waits longer.
I assumed Pet would have had a big bottle of non-alcoholic bubbly 🍾 at the start of this episode
Who else listened to ding dong the witch is dead when the announcement came.
Thought the same thing LOL!
Want to throw a quick and effective bone to Disney fans? Magical Express...Resort luggage delivery...get it back. Pronto. They can buy that Flyer company out and use their busses.....lol Teresa just said it while I was watching.
Is there a GKTW marathon this year? Black Friday shopping reminded me today, not sure if I missed an announcement earlier
Christmas came early this year!
Congratulations Craig and your beautiful wife ❤️
Sending good vibes to the Panda. Sorry for your loss man.
If Iger got rid of Genie+, and reworked the system into something like MaxPass at Disneyland. I'd would be honestly be content lol.
Letting you schedule lightning lane early is defacto reservation as with the old fast passes. For whatever they left that out of genie plus, thus reservations
I always thought this too. Most people would schedule a fastpass so they knew who was going where for the most part.
NONE of this is going to happen
@awefawn I agree. There will not be any price decreases. However, I expect over the next two years there will be more value for that money again.
Rhino with the tommy green ranger shirt. 🙏🏼
Bob “paycheck” was sucking the soul out of Disney. I have never known so many people to be so happy that one individual lost their job. 🎉🥳😎🌴
deepest condolences Panda on your loss of your Family member.
Boy oh boy, I'm excited for this episode!!!
Congratulations on the baby, Craig & Kylie!!! 💙💙💙
Disney is a soap right now & I LOVE it!
"Disney" has lost sight of the big picture.
"When the guest experience is better the money will follow."
I want my AP back!
I don’t mind if they KEEP charging money, but they need to go back to being able to get three FP or lightning lane at 60 days before the trip.
spot on
@@basicleighdisney5643 perfectly stated
So excited about Iger coming back.
This ⬆️✅ Exactly my thoughts about the reservation system. It would be a win/win and positive PR.
Sincere condolences to John/Panda on the loss of his family member. 🙏😔💔
Congratulations Craig & Kylie on the birth of your little one. 👶🤱👣💙🍼
Bob Isner will whip Disney back into shape. This isn't an overnight thing. It will take time. Oh it was definitely a firing!
