I had a YG1 I was a kid like 14 and I remember the housing that pulled the rod to shift the gears was cracked so it would miss gears and pop out of gear. The part was aluminum. I did not know how to fix them back then or how to weld aluminum. I learned how to work on anything mechanical , I remember reading the repair manual and it was like Greek to me. I had to read it over and over for it to sink in. My dad found the cheapest bike he could find and it was a dork bike when my friends had brand new Enduro's. I worked to save $75 and bought a modified 1970 Harley BAJA, I finally felt cool. The Jug on a BAJA for a 98cc was huge as big as a 350cc. Back then you impressed friends if you had a bigger motor. My husband had a black one as a kid and he rode it on the logging roads near Eatonville and Yelm. So cool he got it up to 45 mph going down the hill behind Silver lake by Deck Farm.
My first (running) motorcycle was a 1967 Yamaha G5S 80cc bought second hand for $175 when I was 13. A fun first bike to how to ride and wrench on.
Had a 66 YG1k. Paid $425 cdn. Had a smaller rear sprocket. ( taller gearing) Top speed of just over 50mph. Wish I still had it.
That looks nice. I convinced my dad to buy me one when I was in college in 64. I think he paid less than $500 in Hawaii.
