The more i see of this drama the more i admire and impressed by Niao Niao's knowledge and self reliance. She is so eager to please the loving Empress who is kind to show and educate her just like the ladies in the palace but their bond is beyond that. The Empress is her foster Mother figure and i'm very impressed on their bond and support of each other. Niao Niao is so smart and good with her hands and she is so practical for someone of her young age. She would have been highly skilled as a doctor, engineer, contractor, farmer, scientist as she is methodical and she understands the laws of science and mechanisms. She is truly skilled and General Ling is lucky to have her and she him. I'm in awe of this drama on the cast and how the characters are so close and support each other. I wish to have been in that story living with them. It's more than a love story is a story of humanity and perseverance.

angela, the day you want to try another Custome CDrama, I highly suggest: "New Life Begins" (my Top Fav Custome CDrama, and this LLTG became the 2nd one).
You may find that NLB also goes along the lines you wrote. NLB even has some similarities to this one, for eg.: the ML (6th Royal Young Lord) falls for the FL (rural girl and quite illiterate) much earlier than she does and he doesn't care what others think of his selection.
It contains various Life Lessons but the main topic is the Acknowledgement of Women' Dignity.
