It's actually duck tape. Some performers like to swing around their mics and put duck tape around the handle so it puts less strain on the cord.

@@lel5416 yeah Nate went on about in an old video. The idea is that by taping the cable in a loop to the mic, the strain is way more likely to break the $20 cable than that $300 mic
