Oh my goodness, have I got a recipe for you! I make a Chai Tea (dry mix) & give it for Christmas gifts & I’ll be happy to share that with you. My granddaughter & daughter-in-law have a cup of tea every night before bedtime. My granddaughter loves my Chai Tea & my grandsons favorite is my Hot Cocoa Mix. They spend a lot of time outside, sledding & enjoying our winter weather. (I live in Mi too, in the lower half & my sons & their families do too). It’s so nice having them nearby. A couple of years ago, I gave my nieces & nephews jars of the Cocoa Mix for Christmas. One of my great nephews was so cute. He said he didn’t know it could be made at home!! He has a friend who goes to his house & in the winter they spend a lot of time outside, so “D” saves his Cocoa so he can share it with his friend. When my niece told me that, it just melted my heart! Happy Holiday. Baking everyone!!
I shop the same way you do, because I have a bunch of children. I teach my kids how to figure out price per pound or ounce but it’s a hard concept for some kiddos. It’s hard sometimes for some to understand that one size might be more expensive than the other size. I went to Safeway last week, and name brand Brown Sugar was $4.79/lb! I refused to pay that price! I went someplace else, because I needed at few pounds. I usually buy 25 pound bag at a time but was out and just needed enough for the special recipes I was making. I love to bake for family and friends. You know we parents show some of our love through our baking and cooking.

Mainly out of necessity but I “study” pricing and sales trends…you did REALLY well for your area. We go through a lot of slivered almonds. My son loves Chobani flips so we’ve been buying large yogurts, mini chips, and slivered almonds so he can make a growing teenager sized portion. 😂
I love the larger Amish stores. You can also ask them for larger sizes or complete boxes if they have them in the back. The instant pudding is just shy of 1/2 cup to equal the same as the small size pudding (it is the same for the flavored jello powder).

I use them instead of nuts in my Russian tea cakes and I add special dark chocolate powder to the powdered sugar to roll them in. I know it's an older show but wanted to share.

An easy baked chicken recipe is put stick butter in a 8X13 pan, dip your chicken in flour and paprika with your salt and pepper dip and coat it in your butter and bake at 350 degrees for 30-45 minutes. Easy and so good. I use thighs. Turn half way through the bake. Just make sure you have butter to coat your chicken after you dip it in flour.
For the grits use half water and half whole milk. If doing cheesy grits also add some cream cheese. I use about 1/3 to 1/2 a block for 4-6 servings. The key also to creamy grits is to whisk while they cook. Just some tricks from a southern girl. Great deals by the way on your baking supplies.
I live so close to Shipshewana and have never been to most of Amish stores. We are in Three Rivers not far from the Indiana state line. Looks like i need to venture into Indiana to score some amazing deals.

$5 for 5 lbs of potatoes in reg store is $50 for 50lbs. $1 a pound ...You getting 50lbs for $13 is a great deal ..I wish we had a store like that here for all the other bulk items

Cracker Barrel has some cute Christmas/ winter gnome stuff and Hobby Lobby has cute gnome stuff for Fall/Halloween/Thanksgiving/ Christmas/ winter got stuff at both places for a Birthday gift. I recommend going to both places. In the past we got stuff at TJ Maxx for all the holidays coming up for birthdays and Christmas gifs
We buy potatoes every fall from a potato farmer. We pay 18.00 for 50# bags and we get 3 or 4 bags. They last us until about a month before time to buy them again.

We absolutely love E&S we live about an hour away and get over there about 5 times a year especially just before the holidays to stock up on baking supplies. The prices are usually really good even when they don’t have close out specials. You need to also visit Yoder’s Meat & Cheese great place also.
That is a fabulous haul. Bargain prices compared to the prices i have to pay here in Philadelphia PA. 5 lb bag of Gold medal bread flour is$7.99. Regular flour is a little cheaper.

The ceramic chicken is used to store eggs, though I think you keep your eggs in fridge in the U.S.? I think some in the U.K. probably do too, but an awful lot of us don’t and they’re kept in something like your chicken on the kitchen counter. Each to their own though hey 😅❤

There are 4 tablespoons in 1/4 cup. You might be thinking of the number of teaspoons in a tablespoon which is 3.
