My library only allows 6 holds at one time, so you don’t get overwhelmed by them, but for general lending it’s 20 (and that’s not set in stone) and you can renew 10 times and as you say, if you return it then and re-lend it, your lending ‘power’ starts all over again. I totally appreciate the spend on the book you really want to read, why not?! You will enjoy that so much and I am sure the amount you borrow rather than buy means it is justified to splurge every now and again on a book you really really want.
6 holds at a time would keep me under control better than the 38 I currently have 😆 10 renewals is great! You're right. I didn't think of that! I don't feel so bad now 🤣
Now I know why I can’t get any books from the library! 🤣 I might need to sign up to your channel so I get a heads up about which ones you’re about to put a hold on.
Hope you like Black Sheep!!! Its a bit of a fun romp! Oh i felt the same about Doppleganger but it turned around for me and got much more interesting and compelling. Also heard its good on audio! Siân xx
Loved this video and love the colours in your house. I’m allowed to reserve 20 books at the library so I’ve reserved 20 that have been on people’s predictions list, only 6 have arrived so far so I quickly reserved another 6. I’m hoping I’ve read some from the list so reading them all in such a short period of time is doable.
I’m so so excited to see your face in my TH-cam feed ❤I always save the videos for when I have time to enjoy and comment because they’re among my favorites. I’ve added some of these to my wishlist….firstly Winter Animals! I need to temper my book buying and get back to the library. However, this is the first year I’ve been genuinely excited about prize lists- particularly the inaugural Women’s Nonfiction Long list (and tomorrow the fiction long list!) so March will be a heavy spend month for sure. Hope you have a good week (and I adore that color couch!!) ❤
Aww, thank you :) That's so nice to hear! It's so fun when you're getting into following prizes. I love that it gets the whole community talking about the same thing. I look forward to seeing which ones you get too.
Best books read in February Stone Yard Devotional by Charolette Wood Greta & Valdin by Rebecca R Reilly The Caretaker by Ron Rash Ordinary Human Failings by Megan Nolan Hello Beautiful by Ann Napolitano The Bandit Queens Currently listening to Fayne by AnnMarie McDonald My first book for #irishreadathon is Night Swimmers by Roisin Maguire I have Solider Sailor on my audio TBR. ☘️👋🍀☕️📕🇮🇪📖📚
Big time sofa envy. I’ve requested so much in anticipation of the women’s prize but I’m gonna end up returning most of it I bet when they release a list of books none of us were expecting.
And Then She Fell is the one Women's Prize book I have in hand - managed to snag it from the library! I also absolutely loved The Break - I have The Strangers on my shelf so I will move it up my TBR - so exciting to hear someone else speak about Katherena Vermette. ❤ I also enjoy Horror! I've heard mixed things about Black Sheep so I'll be curious to see what you think of it. I guess you're feeling less pressure now that the longlist is out and the pressure is off reading all those library books!
I am so excited to read The Circle! I also loved her two previous books and so scared to read it because it means that I would've read everything she's ever written, yet I badly want to read haha
I'm really interested in Some of us just fall. It'll be published in a few weeks and I'm hoping to snag a copy soon. Also interested in Some People need Killing.
The audiobook of Some People Need Killing is now available on Everand. (It wasn’t when the list first came out in the U.K) I really want to read it too. I picked up Nuclear Family yesterday. The bookseller was raving about it and told us about how Sarah Waters had come along to the event and was loving it too. So many great books. I hope you love everything that you get to. 😊
@@MercysBookishMusings it’s obviously vanished again as it was there the other day. That’s the only thing with Everand titles appear and disappear all the time, can be a little frustrating but heyho 🤷♀️
I’m now dubbing it prize season. Beside WP nonfiction and fiction lists, the international booker list, the Walter Scott list, and other Canadian & USA prizes, over here in N America there is a fantastic new prize (year two) the Carol Shields Fiction Prize for women and nonbinary writers in Canada & USA. Whew! Last year the C Shields list was stunning with good writing. I only read those that appeal to me in all these lists. I never read all of them because ultimately they were only decided by a handful of people. It is a good way to find authors and books new to me. For you and yr Mar. TBR, I’m happy it’s a 31 day month!!!
You're right - there are so many exciting prizes! I followed the Carol Shields last year but most of the books weren't accessible in the UK sadly. Same for the Stella prize in Australia. Me to re the 31 day month!
True that! And I have trouble accessing the British prize books. But ebooks for sure and Blackwell's too helps with that problem somewhat with its free international shipping.
I was so happy with the Women's Prize for Non Fiction long list. I'm interested in many of the books, and I've already read Wifedom by Anna Funder. I feel very confident you would love it and the themes it discusses - how women are erased from history, even when they are quintessential to the plot.
I'm glad to hear that as I wasn't sure if Wifedom sounded like my thing. I'm not that interested in biographies so was thinking it might be a bit boring for me.
Another great video. 😊 I’m excited about The Women’s Prize for Nonfiction and love books on Women queens because the most interesting biographies are of women trapped in monarchy forced to conform to their lives or else be removed/replaced/martyred. For example, I personally love Marie Antoinette by Antonia Fraser because that Queen really got an unfair narrative and was totally screwed over by everyone. Her ’true’ story is fascinating. I think rather than actual monarchy, it’s women’s everyday lives which are compellingly, regardless of whether they are monarchs or everyday people.
I know what you mean but I'm more interested in the working class women of the time than the ruling class. Maybe I should give one of them a go though.
Some people need killing audio is on Everland fyi, I've just started listening. Great video, excited for all your reading projects! Love your reviews 😊
I hope that you like the books that you will be reading. I have two books on Hold through my Local Library. One is called The Women by Kristin Hannah. The other one is called All The Sinners Bleed by SACosby. It will be a while before I will get these books but that is okay because I have other books to read. I bought Heir Of Fire by Sarah J. Maas and I am finishing this Series - Throne Of Glass Series. Take Care & Happy Reading ❤️🤗📚🔰📕📖❤️
Love the orange couch! It looks very cosy. In the past, I have tried to get my girlfriend to take out a library card so I could have double the amount. With the WP for fiction long list pending and me having about two spots left on my reserve list, I think I may try to persuade her again.....😂
Have you read Orpheus Builds a Girl or Reservoir by Livi Michael? They aren’t horror per say but both are quite dark and were my top two of last year!!!
It's really nice to see you in your living room, it looks gorgeous! Really loved this video. I was thinking I shouldn't reserve any of these as it'll stop you renewing them 😂 Women's prize - so far reading how to say babylon on audio. Taking it one at a time!! Fiction I think I'll just start with what appeals most, but I'd like to read most of the shortlists. Graphic memoirs - have you read Ducks by Kate Beaton? Really good. Did you find most of your new releases in the American section of the library out of interest? Xx
Thanks :) Hahhaahah, you can reserve them really. It will force me to hurry up. Yes, I read Ducks and didn't love it which was a shame as I thought I would. No, the new releases are all in the UK section but I found them on the app not in the library.
Have you ever considered offering a book spa service? For instance, clients could fill out a survey indicating their preferred and disliked books, and you could provide personalised recommendations during a 45-minute one-on-one video call for £60. I have a friend who does it, and she finds it to be a great way of making a bit of extra money while still talking about books.
Hiya. From Blue Moon Press, you might love Sound Mirror, an intergenerational story of three women / it is quite poignant. It reminds me in the wonderful Augustown by Kei Miller of pulling the heart strings around one character.
Cackle was the ‘witchy’ Rachel Harrison book but it is not scary at all, more of a fun witchy book so probably nothing like her others - I liked the sound of Black Sheep from a ‘cult’ perspective but I don’t like Horror. Another you may enjoy is ‘Children of the Sun’ also based on a cult environment. I can’t think of the author sorry. I am Welsh and I would recommend books by Rachel Tresize, some of which are quite unusual and quirky. She is from South Wales, the same as me 😊
Cackle is the one I was thinking of. I thought they were all horror so it's nice to hear it's a fun one. Children of the Sun is by Beth Lewis and I have it on my list to pick up so thanks for reminding me :) I'll look into Rachel Tresize
"Some People Need Killing" is a very difficult read. I don't mean it's not worth reading, on the contrary. But it's really tough and quite depressing. It made me so angry (at what was happening, not at the author). I wish "The Exceptions" had been nominated for the Women's non fiction prize, it follows Nancy Hopkins and her struggle to obtain equal lab space for women investigators at the MIT. "My preference is to struggle" as well 😂, that's how you learn
I like when people mix it up and don’t have the same background all the time. I like to see their homes and I think it shows more of their personality
I +1 to this
WOW! I adore your orange velvet sofa 🟠🟠🟠🍊🍊🍊
