I carried a Recon 1 previously, which is a fantastic all around knife, but I wanted something the same size that would deploy faster. That's why I just got the 4in Talwar, and that knife is MEAN! It can do all the hum drum box opening task as any knife, but it instantly deploys out of the pocket for any self defense need. Awesome size, weight, lock strength, deployment speed and cutting ability make it one hell of a SD/EDC knife.
The Talwar XL also provides the special feature of allowing you to have the Crocodile Dundee moment with your friends: "THAT'S not a knife." "THIS is a knife." :-)
I just received my Cold Steel Recon1 CTS-XHP Tanto Half Serrated and love it. My other choices would be the American Lawman, Code 4, ProLite Sport Drop Point for budget EDC, and the Tufflite for utility/box cutter knife, especially for store/warehouse workers that open lots of cardboard boxes.
Check out the extra large espada , they have 2 diff models , one is more expensive than the other, check out the more expensive one , it's a beautiful knife
Im a big fan of the American Lawman. I think its as well designed as any of Spyderco or Kershaws catalogue staples. The Ultimate Hunter is a good one too, and I've just had a Broken Skull in for review and it was overall a good big blade and a definite value for money.
Carried a Pocket Bushman everyday for years. Work, home, camping, anything. Nothing fancy(expensive) and tuff as hell. The Ram Safe Lock in the mono-block handle is almost as strong as a fixed blade. It will never close accidentally.
The first generation of the recon with the axis lock was on a show called deadliest warrior, and that version of the recon was one of my first knife purchases about ten years ago or so, and I still have and love that particular knife.
You might also want to try the Talwar with serrations. For very aggressive cutting and tactical use, you can't beat the Cold Steel serrations. The two knives I have with serrations are the Talwar and the old 6-inch Vaquero! The latter is a knife you should hunt down if you don't have. And if you can't get one, get a 5.5-inch Vaquero Voyager. The old 6-inch Voyager without serrations, and the 6-inch Vaquero with, are two of the greatest Cold Steels ever made. Long, very slender and light, they now can't be carried in Texas, so Cold Steel makes them 5.5 inches. You can occasionally find the old models on eBay and they're well worth having. Having that 6-inch recurve blade with serrations can make all one's encounters polite and stress free. The older knives were polished, too, which was a nice touch.
Tal war XL is my favorite knife to carry and I've owned many knives, many different brands. It's a lil large to carry but we'll worth it. Very intimidating blade!
Great list! I own them all minus the Talwar. I agree with everything except the Voyager was tearing up my pockets more than the recon. I had to dremel it down under the clip. Happy new year BBO! God bless you and your family and thank you for your service buddy!
My favorite EDC is the Extra Large Talwar for the wave feature, the very sharp point, the curved blade makes it an awesome slicer, and I could wave the blade out and throw it into a target 15 feet away underhanded.
Good vid 👍🏻. I own 3 of the 5 you featured and my favorite is the Finn Wolf ! I practice bush crafting and my woodsman skills frequently and when my schedule permits so I always have the FinnWolf in my pocket and I like to use it to practice my feather sticking it works awesome for that !
My favorite top 5 CS folders are: Recon1 XL; Talwar 4"; Ti-Lite 6"; Black Talon II; Rawles XL. The Recon1 saved my life in man versus a rogue demon possessed Pitt-bull. By the way, that 5.5" Talwar looks INCREDIBLE. My all time favorite folder is the Recon1 XL. It has chopping power, nice and heavy to give a good "WHACK," and the scales are perfect for holding in a fight for life adventure. It slashes through hide exceptionally well, and will go about 1/2 into a Pitt's muzzle, and the G10 scales/handle allows the knife to be pulled out by force. Even with VERY wet hands, the scales stay in place.
You should do a new top 5 for 2020, my top 5 rite now is the Tiger Claw, Tanto large fixed blade, Espada large, AD-10 and AD-15. Wish they still had the Talwar in 2020 I don't know why they discontinued it.
Nice review bud, really like the the look of the Talwar. I would be interested to see a review on the Spartan as I have had one for a few years now and the lock up on the grip is phenomenal, not to mention a wicked blade shape.
My EDC is a 97 Vaquero Grande. It goes in & out of my pocket fast and easy, and opens & closes easy, not like my newer Cold Steel knives, tight and hard to manage!
i still like my SOG trident as my EDC plus its made in USA, unlike a lot of others, still yet to buy a cold steel, i'll have to check their site, that recon 1 and talwar look badass, cool channel i subbed.
Say Heah, Yeah mine are the C S right ? My Vintage Talwar, my Black Sable, my Black Rhino because it's my Fav. Bush Craft Folder , My Rajah 1, my vintage Midium Vaquero in the VG-1 and fully serrated, I also use it in the bush for cutting paracord, But it's also a great edc defence knife and it looks people friendly. I have a few other like the bushman a all steel knife that locks at the back by pushing a slide into the blade to make it almost as strong ad a fix blade, but it's in the 4116 Krupp. and the Kudu. ,, .
Awesome video. While i don't own any of these, i think cold steel knives are awesome EDC beater knives. I own the ak47 in Aus8A which is an awesome EDC, and the micarta L espada which is just for show. I am going to get the Swift in CTS XHP soon. The CTS XHP steel really is an awesome upgrade over Aus8A. Cold steel did a edge retention comparison video on it..
night strider since the blade is carried tip up you can pull the knife our of your pocket pressing the blade to your pants that the blade is clipped to and the thumb ramp on the knife will catch your pocket opening the knife
Yup. First, you need to get the current Talwar. Second, you need to deploy the blade. Third, do not release the Tri-Ad lock. BINGO! You won't even remember it ISN'T a fixed blade.
Michael Sandoval I have both and would recommend the recon 1. The version of recon 1 on deadliest warrior was an older discontinued version with a benchmadebaxis lock. That version is my favorite and was carrier through 3 years of scouts plus around 5 summers of daily use at a camp with no I'll effects
Cold steel's tri-ad lock is possibly one of the strongest lock there is. You can watch their testing on the locks on youtube. That being said, It is still a folding knife, be reasonable with it and it won't hurt you. Same with many tools.
nice top 5, all good knives... i got me a lawman cts xhp last month i like the "friendly" look of it and the ergo's ( never held a cs knife that had bad ergo's btw )... i got recon 1 tanto and the ak47 but those knives gave me strange looks because those knives screamed kill and murder... awesome channel dont know why i havent subbed before... extra sub from Netherlands Amsterdam... greets and the best for 2017!
I’ve been contemplating the Finn Wolf but heard mixed reviews regarding the AUS-8 steel rolling or chipping. Has anyone heard anything different regarding that issue? The reviews I’ve seen seem to be not very recent. Thank you.
I'm looking to get the Recon 1 (clipped point) soon as my very first EDC. But I am only 17 and at a short 5'2" is it alright for me to have, like in my Bag or Pocket for college. They would be legal here in California, though I might forgo the idea of bringing it to school, but um, school shooters ya know.
I have The Recon 1 Tanto XL in XHP steel which is awesome and would def put it in my top 5.Also The XL Talwar, The Frenzy and The Voyager(earlier models in VG-1 steel) would also be in my top 5 for sure.I wish The Recon folding models had the thumb disk wave deployment on them and the G10 was 50% less pronounced=easier deployment from the pocket.Cold Steel. please do something about this.
Bro you've crossed 100 thousand subcribers. cool keep it up Bro .my support is always with you. I always keep supporting you. .today I just donated 740 ml of blood. to a patient.
My fav coldsteels are espada 1 (couldn't afford XL model :'( so sad ) the frenzy blue the Spartan and immortal and ti-lite 4 I live in Texas and I can't carry the frenzy legally so it's in my collection
my dad wont let me buy a Recon 1, the exact one you have cuz he says its a dangerous weapon, and im like, every knife is a dangerous weapon, whys this more dangerous? edit: I just love straight blade/spine knives with a plain edge, the voyager is a gray blade on black, but the recon 1 is black on black so i like that more. so far the recon 1 is my favorite total knife so far.
Love the blade on the Finn Wolf and the handle but the lockback mechanism is awful. Cannot close it one handed like a Spyderco but then again it costs less than a Spyderco.
blob fish I feel the same. I was thinking about the recon 1 xl but it's just not practical for edc. And if I want a blade 5 1/2 inches or larger I'd get a fixed blade. The triad lock is super strong but can never be as strong as a fixed blade. I am going to get the recon 1 four inch spear point. I have an American Lawman which is a great knife but the recon adds more of a tactical flavor.
I carried a Recon 1 previously, which is a fantastic all around knife, but I wanted something the same size that would deploy faster. That's why I just got the 4in Talwar, and that knife is MEAN! My EDC is the Voyager XL Tanto. I love Cold Steel.
Cold Steel CODE 4 is my everyday companion. Love it.
Still?
The Talwar XL also provides the special feature of allowing you to have the Crocodile Dundee moment with your friends:
"THAT'S not a knife."
"THIS is a knife." :-)
I have yet to try out a Cold Steel knife. Thanks for giving them a rundown for us. I appreciate it brother.

Ewwww serrations are gross :c
I think the show you're referring to is Deadliest Warrior. The Navy SEAL pretty much minced a gel dummy with the Recon 1.
I just got the cold steel working man, and I absolutely love it so far
Tal war XL is my favorite knife to carry and I've owned many knives, many different brands. It's a lil large to carry but we'll worth it. Very intimidating blade!
Great list! I own them all minus the Talwar. I agree with everything except the Voyager was tearing up my pockets more than the recon. I had to dremel it down under the clip. Happy new year BBO! God bless you and your family and thank you for your service buddy!
I love Talwar, I carry it almost everyday. So beatifull!
My favorite EDC is the Extra Large Talwar for the wave feature, the very sharp point, the curved blade makes it an awesome slicer, and I could wave the blade out and throw it into a target 15 feet away underhanded.

Awesome man! Thanks for the feedback!
I own the large TI Light, and the Tanto Combo edge Voyager XL, both are awesome and I still intend to add more to my collection.
My EDC was Cold Steel Swift. The deployment was swift and awesome.
Im a fan of the Cold Steel Tuff Lite for MAILCALLS and serious boxing/unboxing as its magic!
i absolutely love the spartan
I luv my Spartan too, but people are end to freak out when I pull it out in a restaurant to cut my steak.
X-D
I'll be carrying Spartan in a couple of weeks! Can't wait!!
Can I get a appreciation from you bro
I'm a big fan of Cold Steel knives. I own the Spartan, Espada Large, Voyager XL and AK-47. I hate picking between them. They're all great blades.
Great video, informative and i love the way you posed the knives in a nature setting very nice!
So proud of you getting 100,000 subs!
Great, I have the Scimitar which reminds me of the Talwar.
Dr. Mark
Recon xl tanto? Or plain edge?
I love my Scimitar. Been a customer for over 12 years.
I was looking at Finn Wolf, Raja 3, or the Ultimate Hunter, idk which one to get.
got a Finnwolf I LOVE IT
My favorite Cold Steels:
5) Colossus 2
4) Espada medium
3) Finnwolf
2) Rajah 3
1) Bush Ranger
Nice. These knives look pretty solid. EDC
I'm really like your intro.
Thanks I appreciate it!
You should do a new top 5 for 2020, my top 5 rite now is the Tiger Claw, Tanto large fixed blade, Espada large, AD-10 and AD-15. Wish they still had the Talwar in 2020 I don't know why they discontinued it.

Thanks for the feedback man. How does the Spartan feel in pocket? It seems a bit big to me.
I had the 6 inch ti lite in zytel. the wave feature was awesome. Favorite Cold Steel knife. Though...its the only Knife I have had from them.
What do you think about the bush ranger lite?
should I get a recon 1, code 4, American lawman, broken skull, or ak47
My EDC is a 97 Vaquero Grande. It goes in & out of my pocket fast and easy, and opens & closes easy, not like my newer Cold Steel knives, tight and hard to manage!
Thank you soo much for putting cm and grams! ;D
i still like my SOG trident as my EDC plus its made in USA, unlike a lot of others, still yet to buy a cold steel, i'll have to check their site, that recon 1 and talwar look badass, cool channel i subbed.

I am going to get the Swift in CTS XHP soon. The CTS XHP steel really is an awesome upgrade over Aus8A. Cold steel did a edge retention comparison video on it..
Try one of the new Prolite folders. You gonna like.
6" Tri lite, Counter Point XL, Gunsite 5" Tanto, Spartan, Tanto Voyager.
eww grivory
looks like Bigfoot could use one of those Talwar knives lol!😁
i like the tawlar (if thats how you spell it) and the recon. but how does the instant takeout thing work for the tawlar?
night strider since the blade is carried tip up you can pull the knife our of your pocket pressing the blade to your pants that the blade is clipped to and the thumb ramp on the knife will catch your pocket opening the knife
thanks
Also, the Spartan is a pretty awesome beast!
Happy New Year !!!
i like thee TALWAR XL and they should make the blade longer on the handle and thicker spine
Any idea about a Talwar as a fixed knife in nearly the same dimensions?
Yup.
First, you need to get the current Talwar.
Second, you need to deploy the blade.
Third, do not release the Tri-Ad lock.
BINGO! You won't even remember it ISN'T a fixed blade.
Still a folder dont waste internet space pls.
try swift like switcblade but not
BudgetBugout the show was Deadliest Warrior Spike Tv and I want to know would you rather buy the Voyager or Recon 1?
Michael Sandoval I have both and would recommend the recon 1. The version of recon 1 on deadliest warrior was an older discontinued version with a benchmadebaxis lock. That version is my favorite and was carrier through 3 years of scouts plus around 5 summers of daily use at a camp with no I'll effects
just picked up the ak-47. Very light and the quick open is scary fast!
Is it possible for the switch to break and the blade folding on your fingers?
Cold steel's tri-ad lock is possibly one of the strongest lock there is. You can watch their testing on the locks on youtube.
That being said, It is still a folding knife, be reasonable with it and it won't hurt you. Same with many tools.
Did your recon 1 come double beveled or did you do that yourself
Cold steel ti lite zyex 4 inch version is my favorite edc
Great video! I always have my tuff lite serrated. Why no Espada? I have the G10 Espada large, great knife.
Steven Smith Thanks! I like the look of the Espada but it's price is crazy high.
BudgetBugout I have the Espada XL, there is nothing better
HAPPY NEW YEAR CONGRATS ON 100,000 subs
Also 1000 degree knives are popular right now and your a knife guy so will you do it
Thanks brother! Hm, not a bad idea... Now I need to get permission from the wife! lol
nice top 5, all good knives... i got me a lawman cts xhp last month i like the "friendly" look of it and the ergo's ( never held a cs knife that had bad ergo's btw )... i got recon 1 tanto and the ak47 but those knives gave me strange looks because those knives screamed kill and murder... awesome channel dont know why i havent subbed before... extra sub from Netherlands Amsterdam... greets and the best for 2017!

ti-lite 6 is my fav cs folder, tactical prison shank lol
Alexander Moore same here my dude.
Alexander Moore same here! I also have the recon 1 xl and voyager xl
the finn wolf is a really good knife. not enough options for a good outdoors oriented pocket knife, and cold steel rose to the challenge.
Dexter Charles Agreed!
Talwar XL serrated, Code 4, Lone Star & Mackinac Hunter, Roach Belly - but superior and nicer Zero Tolerance 0620 & 0620CF
cold steel is one word and that's badass ultimate hunter, Finn wolf, recon 1 and hold out 4 and that's all she wrote
I have AK47 its a beast and i also have the recon 1 tanto od green just stunning and also another beast.
awsome video
Holdout 1you gotta get that one.
is talwar g10 scale thick like the recon 1
I have The Recon 1 Tanto XL in XHP steel which is awesome and would def put it in my top 5.Also The XL Talwar, The Frenzy and The Voyager(earlier models in VG-1 steel) would also be in my top 5 for sure.I wish The Recon folding models had the thumb disk wave deployment on them and the G10 was 50% less pronounced=easier deployment from the pocket.Cold Steel. please do something about this.
Cold Steel has the best big size pocket knives nobody can match Cold Steel nobody they cornered the market their pocket knives are the best
Waiting to get the Immortal!
the show u were thinking about is called deadliest warrior
Can they be shipped worldwide?
Bro you've crossed 100 thousand subcribers. cool keep it up Bro .my support is always with you. I always keep supporting you. .today I just donated 740 ml of blood. to a patient.
Love the Talwar!
They discontinued the Talwar. To bad. My favorite EDC.
My fav coldsteels are espada 1 (couldn't afford XL model :'( so sad ) the frenzy blue the Spartan and immortal and ti-lite 4 I live in Texas and I can't carry the frenzy legally so it's in my collection

Spartan is my edc knife
Hey guys what about cold steel espada
Now THAT'S a KNIFE!
I love the Espada but the Talwar is like a compact version of it. The Extra Large Espada is more like a sword
I would say the broken skull has to be in the top five Cold Steel knifes.
The show was the deadliest warrior
if you wanted a knife bigger than 5 inches then i thing you should get a fixed blade sheath knife
blob fish I carry a XL Talwar everyday outside of work, only work three days a week.
blob fish Ti-Lite with Zy-Ex Handle by Cold Steel or the 6 inch version of that
when it comes to budget, I agree. but if you can afford it, and if you want a slightly smaller package, I think cold steels are great;
blob fish I feel the same.
Who the hell HASN'T researched the Cold Steel Tri-Ad lock?!?!?!
Vince Fernandez Only knife nerds know this. The average dude has no idea.
To be honest I don't think I would buy them .
They are not the type of knifes I like but if you think would use one its up to you
No worries. Any Cold Steel knives you would buy?
broken skull all the way lol you should try it
I thought about getting one... Price seemed a bit high. What do you like about yours?
where do you by your knives from
I like the 4 inch talwar
LOL @ 8:10, you chopped it own box....
Ti lite 4 & 6 inch
Rajah2
Cold Steel SRK knife
Great knife! Not a folder though
I've got one but yeah I couldn't include it in this vid.
forgot the Spartan bro
I was gonna have to question your intelligence if the finn wolf wasn't on here. It is a really good knife for its price
AIR LITE TANTO
1st
lol no it wasn't
My recon 1 tanto thinks my finger in lunch. Watch that detent
Ouch. Yeah mine bit me once before too.
(prepares for the apocalypse)
Serrated talwar edc, baby. Yup! Fuxwitit
Lol that's pretty epic!
All folders? C'mon
