Wow, this really made me nostalgic. I'm English and my older brother lived in Arcata for years so when I was little we used to go there every few years to visit. I went all up and down that coast line when I was a teenager and I'd cycle miles to places like Trinidad. Since he moved out of California I've got no real reason to spend that much money to go so I often wonder if I'll ever see that place again. Anyway, thanks for the memories, and another great video.

I'd love to see what that soft focus lens would do with Velvia. I imagine a painterly lens with painterly color. A book that might interest you is Painting with Light by John Alton. It's actually about black and white cinematography, but it is inciteful and I have lent it to photographers and painters.
Love the videos man. Not only do you capture amazing photos (y'know, sometimes) but your story telling keeps me hooked. I became a subscriber probably about 6 months ago now but I get a small dopamine hit whenever that notification pops up for your next release. Keep it up man, your content is a breath of fresh air.

I really like the concept of those shot with Tmax and the soft-focusing lens, but a ton of grain would've really supported the look in my opinion maybe changing the Tmax for Tri-X pushed to 800 or 1600.

My photography style is waaay different than yours but I definitely felt the vibe and related to a lot of your work on this trip. After all my camera gear was stolen digital and film dating from the 70's I was sure I would never shoot film again this was a good argument for second thoughts.

I have to say that I don’t understand the hype of the M6. I think that it may be a hipster, cultish thing. I have many Leicas but even my 4-2 is as good if not better than the M6.

Well, I am back to film for 3 years now and shot about 180 rolls of 120. Only two of them where Portra, expired 400VC which I shot 2 years ago.
30 minutes. Blessed.

That 120mm on the 67 makes an image that looks like it was photographed with a truly vintage rig, like something from the early 20th Century. At first I didn't like it, but on further reflection, I think it's a pretty cool look.

Richard Estes made his paintings so good they’re mistaken for photos. Meanwhile, on grainydays… Jason is shooting soft focus in the fog on film. In fairness, be inspired by your heros, don’t be them.

Try developing the LomoChrome Purple in E-6. Don't forget to compensate 2 stops for the cross processing. But if you decide to give the orange filter + C-41 another chance, you're supposed to S curve the scan. I dont remember if it's inverse or just a regular S curve.
After an extensive go around with Polaroid over the i2 chronic overexposure in certain circumstances, and the firmware update and reset, I offered to send the camera back and have it looked at, but guess what? Polaroid has NO Service Department for warranty, or customer pay service.
They never intended to service this camera, and that business model and concept was obviously present even during the design process. Nothing says ‘we don’t care’ more loudly than that.

The best Pentax 67 lens you should shoot is the Kodak Aero Ektar 178/2.5!
You guys are GREAT to watch but film sucks. Maybe it’s the worlds 8th wonder to you younguns but to an oldie like myself who HAD to shoot 35mm and 120/220 film back in the early 80’s when shooting events and weddings… well let’s just say “never F’ng again”. Lol. I used to shoot wedding, then rush home at night, setup my bathroom darkroom and begin developing all night long and praying and hoping to God my little girl did not have to potty. I went digital in 2002 and haven’t looked back. I still have my old Minolta’s, 120 Yashicamats, 120 Bronica, 120 Mamiya 645 AFD and numerous other medium format cameras but they are now kept as my personal history lessons in a locked glass cabinet at home. Film for all intent and purposes is long dead. Just ask Kodak who missed the digital boat. All I shoot now is Fujifilm X series and GFX series. And I’m loving it. Last film I shot was a roll of 120 I found in a drawer and I shot thaton my 645AFD for sh*TD and giggles. LOVE YOUR VIDEOS THO!
Holy smokes! Fern Canyon. I was there in summer of 1980. I had with me 95 rolls of 35mm and 120 film- mostly Kodachrome, Velvia and Ektachrome!! When I travelled the California coast from Oregon to LA!!! Ok. No more comments I promise.

Soooo here is my 0.01usd of non artistic person: Have you ever considered that maybe, maybe.... your m6 is under-exposing like.... -1 ... maybe close to -2EV? That would explain why you push the blacks so much in post and the colors (?) - anyway.... I enjoy watching the videos of yours

In my opinion most, if not all of your 35 mm images are too wide, you need to get closer every time. Your cap needs to be turned 180 degrees when you are shooting film. (not some odd angel in between) Also when you are shooting lose the glasses, all of them. (if you need correctional lenses, get correctors for the viewfinders) Your 6 by 7 B&W images are extremely nice. Ron W4BIN

So I’m pretty late to this vid, but I was wondering if that orange filter was a black and white filter where it cuts out the blue end of the spectrum. An 85b filter warms the look so maybe with that combo things would look different?

Had a good laugh after your “ugly ass modern cars” comment. Couple of weeks ago I revisited Fred Herzog’s Modern Color with all those cool vintage cars in a lot of the pictures. Just back then those vintage cars were “ugly ass modern cars” as well…

I do have one question....Is the lightmeter on your Leica broken? All of your chrome images are wildly under exposed. no hate, maybe thats the look you are going for? but yeah, actually maybe they are underdeveloped? do you process the film yourself?
