I work at a print shop and we spend 95% of our day fixing everyone's badly set up files. It's so frustrating and time consuming. with all the AI and everything, I was just hoping some day there would be an easy fix for multiple page documents as well as two sided docs. I'm not sure how long this has been available, but as a design (mostly self taught) for over 20 years, why am I just discovering this amazing feature? This is going to transform our office workflow! You’re very welcome. A lot of these features are built in to Pitstop, but not everyone has or can afford that plug-in, so I figured I’d make some videos to show preflights capabilities as a stand alone built in solution. Glad you’re getting use. Thanks for watching.
Thanks, I took a look at pitstop but it didn't seem very user friendly from my graphic design thought process. This acrobat one made much more sense to me, though, I wish they had a generative fill option vs the mirroring because it would look a lot more natural in the bleed added. Maybe one day soon? @@miketheprintman
@@jennrawlings8764 I would doubt something like that would be built directly in Acrobat, just because Adobe has put those features directly in Illustrator and Photoshop now. I know the mirroring doesn't always work either, but if you can do it for 75% of your jobs then I think it's totally worth it.
Well, one could hope. We get hundreds of files a week that have no bleed. Every Realtor thinks they can be a designer, and we have a LOT of them (trying to save money, so they use publisher, word, canva, and who knows what else). Brochures, booklets, 2 sided business cards. We can't properly add bleed to photographic backgrounds (most of our issues) in Illustrator, that's good for one color backgrounds or simple vector ones, but that's rare for us. Photoshop isn't made for multi documents, so we have to split the job, and when we bring art into photoshop we have found that the quality of text degrades every time. So we take that and do generative bleeds, then save out and then regroup in Acrobat so we can send into fiery in one file. Allllll dayyyyyy longgggggg. We've tried asking people a million times to add bleeds, but they don't. they won't. So if we want the job, we either fix it or print with a border which they never want. This is the one print shop in my 20 years of being a designer that will actually go into every clients file and fix them just so we can print the job. I just wish there were a multipage application like acrobat that would allow you to generate fill the bleed so we could do everything in one step without having to separate, degrade text, and deal with all of that. Any how, sorry for the rant, this is just such an issue that I deal with daily that it becomes very frustrating, especially when you ask your clients who send files weekly, but just won't listen to your request to do them correctly. You take the time to offer instruction, to help, even ask them to send Canva file link so you can fix, but they are seriously "too busy" to deal with that. Sigh. Thanks another great video. Can you please show how to add bleed to a PDF with crop marks but no bleed? ie: white space where the bleed should be? Alternatively how does one add crop marks in Acrobat to the bled PDF you just created in this video?

First off, thanks for watching, glad the preflight is helpful for you. 2nd, yes, you can apply multiple fixups at once using the action wizard in Acrobat. I'm actually going to be doing a new video either today or tomorrow that will show how to use multiple preflights at one time. However, until then, search out Acrobat Action Wizard online and you should find some good information on it.

Thank you for the comment. The reason the white line shows up is that the original pdf probably has a small bleed along the edge. You may need to first crop the image to size, then run the preflight to add the full bleed.
It doesn't work for all situations, but I find it useful for a lot of times when I need to add bleed quickly to multiple pages of a PDF. Glad you liked the video.

Will this create colored pages edges for a book? A thing call fore edge printing. So, books have colored pages edges or pictures on the page edges? Thank you!
No, it won’t. For fore edge printing you would need to set up a completely different file based on the book’s thickness and height. Usually it would be best to contact your printer to get specs on the dimensions required for the fore edge artwork.
