Jack Skellington would like to understand Christmas and is looking for a way to describe it logically. He conducts a series of experiments using the scientific method to improve his understanding of Christmas.
This clip can be used to teach about the scientific method in science classrooms. Jack performs several steps in the scientific method:
1. Making observations: Jack studies the artifacts he collected from Christmas Land by looking at them through a microscope, testing them in chemical reactions, and in the case of the teddy bear, dissecting them.
2. Asking questions: Jack questions the meaning of the green glow when he mixes the ornament in his formula.
3. Forming a hypothesis: Jack condenses what he's learned into a formula for Christmas. This is evident when he writes the formula on the chalkboard.

I love how he's not even upset at the paper art experiment going wrong, he's just really confused lol
That double take though
It defies every logic rules
Out of curiosity, how was that even an experiment? In my case: I think he was just trying it out for himself.
Which he should be because it looked like he did it right.
Interesting reaction but what does *it* mean?
I really love this scene especially when at 3:11, Sally hesitates for a moment and when she looks at Jack's tower, she ultimate decides she wants to be with him and no longer be confined by Dr. Finkelstein who always kept her under lock and key. And when she delivers the gift basket to Jack, I can see the sparks fly between the two of them as Sally's kindness, not just her beauty, was one of the reasons Jack fell in love with Sally.
I love that moment too and morbid as it is I love the double meaning because if she was alive that jump would kill her so it looks like she is dying for him, which makes the image ust so the mood of this whole movie.
Sally did the same in the beginning of the movie.
Always loved when she smiles as she pulls her arm back together, I like how they animated so much optimism and excitement into her actions and expressions
Right
2:22 Literally every kid who's taken a Chemistry class.
😂
I always love how Sally finally gets the courage to leave that toxic environment and goes and lives the life she wants for herself
And that would be she became Jack's pumkin queen
Was that scientist hiding her from the world?
Yes he sees her as his greatest creation he ever created because of this he keeps her locked up. He believes he owns her like a possessive parent. So her leaving him is even more powerful.
Wholesome
Are we just gonna ignore how Sally threaded that needle with one hand ?
She's probably a pro at sewing
@@BowserGuerrero she has to be cuz that’s just talent
That's because girls are smart
@@gemstoneprincess2890 true dat !
She's a badass
The instrumentals for the background music is so beautiful, one of the reasons why I love this movie so much
Literally my favorite scene. Reminds me of like 99% of my fiction crushes
@@You_know21 Not... at all what I was implying.
How cute is Jack in his pajamas
4:15 GRRR!!! *GONE AGAIN!!!* 😡
(Throws lamp to the ground💥)
It serves him right for good. He's been so mean to poor Sally.
🤬 Gone Again! ( Crash! )
At least Sally was wise enough to hide from him for the rest of the movie and she was eventually off the hook Finklestein was so damn lazy and bossy
😂 4:16 😂4:18
@@robnewman6101 Yet he treats Jack very well, unlike Hoogie, so I guess even the doctor is fond of Jack.
No, no jack, take the liquid from the Holly berry and put that under the microscope- you can't just put a whole ass berry
Jack: I learned that fast... 😅
I love how disappointed he is at the floppy candy cane
I still don't know what he dipped the candy cane in 😂
He charged the cup with electricity... the candy cane melted (kinda) when he put it in... what is in the cup?! 😂
It looks like the Japanese style of a ramen noodle
@@kyripiro224 Boiling water, I imagine
I love this scene. This and the scene where Sally is cooking is so satisfying to me
3:50 I just love sweetly she puts the needle in her hair
That's very clever for a girl.
1:54 2:01 he was so confused he just follow the instructions and that didn’t work 😂
The Doctor deserves the headache for good. He's been so mean to poor Sally. Ha Ha gone again, good ridnce.
A tisket, a casket, Sally brought Jack a basket.
I love 3:11 such a beautiful scene. Sally’s behaviour just so satisfying to see. The sewing movement is stunning
4:16 GONE AGAIN! breaks lantern.
Sally gave Jack the stuff for experiments and she did it with love.
It's more like she knows that when he gets lost in a project he forgets to eat. It's her way of caring for him however she can.
2:02 Me when I buy the wrong soda
😂😂
Love his face there!! 😂
Why couldn't he make a snowflake
I’d like to believe Jack got that Scientific method book from Christmas Town, and that’s what Santa gives the naughty kids.
Given how smart some naughty kids are, I'm looking at you Bart Simpson, I don't think it'd be a good idea to give them a book about performing scientific experiments.
@@kyndrablankenship1758 I get your point but a book about the scientific method is probably a lot less about teaching people to use scientific equipment and a lot more about how to do a proper experiment (i.e. how to write a hypothesis, the necessity of control groups, how to determine sources of error, etc) and as someone who just took a university class that was essentially nothing but that I would absolutely consider it a punishment.
Oh wow
Jack never needed to explain christmas, that'd be like if he tried to explain his own holiday
I bet he could explain the meaning of it 😅
Man 🥺 he was trying to capture the warmth he felt in Christmastown and couldn’t recreate it but the gift from sally did :,
4:16 Gone Again (Broken Lamp)😂😂😂😂
Poisoned? More like put to sleep. The deadly nightshade can’t kill him it just puts him to sleep.
Not all poisons would necessarily kill you. Some would only knock you out for several hours. Plus, depending on your body chemistry, certain poisons would probably affect you differently than others.
With the amount of times she snuck Deadly Night Shade into his stuff, shouldn't he be able to develop antibodies and gain immunity from it?
Not gonna lie, this is my favorite scene in the movie! 1:12! It’s so creative and abstract.
I remember thinking she really did kill herself at first at 3:20 when watching this for the 1st time as a kid many years ago lol. Strangely beautiful. such a masterpiece movie
And then... BLINK
4:15 GONE AGAIN!!!
Jack:There’s Got To Be A Logical Way To Explain This Christmas Thing
Jack does... SCIENCE!
4:16 GONE AGAIN!!!! SMASH!!!
Him with zero is so iconic.
Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought him back.
2:03 that face 😂
🤔 Sally?
😟 Sally?!
😲😠😡 Ooohhh! *GONE AGAIN!!!*
🤬 *Smash*
Strangely satisfying
I wonder how much smoother this would be of it were remade today
Not, clay animation has an certain style that just needs to be.
If you cut paper like Jack did, it won't give you a spider. People tested it to see. XD
That's why it's funny at how improbable it is.
Really what did it actually turn out to be,just an ugly snowflake or what?
@@isaacanimalogo-4548 A snowflake.
Jack:I’m Conducting A Series Of Experiments
This is so Nostalgic
4:18 I hope you didn’t pay beaucoup for that lantern
4:16 GONE AGAIN!
You know, when i was a kid I kept thinking what did Sally give him? we’re they gifts? was it something to help him out? Pretty sure they were gifts now that I think about.
I think she gave him food actually, she seems to understand that whatever he's doing at the moment, he's so obsessed that he forgets to eat, so she brought him a little something to eat. Like the fishbone, since he's a squeleton, and then some drink. So she made him lunch. ^^
@@Karomix3Yeah, it was a little meal, topped with a nice drink ❤
"You poisoned me for the last time little girl!" That not something that's usually said so casually!
So did anybody notice when Sally stitched her arm back on it was the same sort of motions that a junkie would make as they shoot up? The way she walks after getting up is just the icing on the cake. Every detail in animation is deliberate, and most is rife with double meaning and subliminal messages.
I read on Internet, Sally was supposed to limp like this but they finally didn't do it because when they animated it, it gave the impression she was drunk
It's probably because she was a bit less stuffed, as her insides seems to be stuffed with leaves, and she doesn't bother to put them back inside her, so she is probably a bit more weightless, hence her walking a bit unusually.
3:20 geronimo!
😂
Why am I cracking up so much?! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Come out now if you promise to behave... Sally... Sally... UUUGH!!! GONE AGAIN!!!
I searched jack puts a cranberry under the microscope to get here
When he picked up the hollyberry with the twisters did you hear a small ballet Dancy elevating piece of music what would that piece of music be called cause I feel like I heard it in other soundtracks of other films
Jack likes Christmas instead of Halloween
Same here
He wanted something different than what they've always celebrated every year.
He loves both holidays. He was just sick of the same routine year after year.
What is the background music? It’s so good.
GREAT THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS (1993 ) FILM - THE SCIENTIFIC METHOD SCENE !!!
Interesting reaction but what does it mean! 🤔🤔
01:13 The weather of the sky looks like there’s a thunderstorm coming. November 14, 2023.
Sally? Sally? Grrrr GONE AGAINNN !!!!!!!
2:21 Ghoul!
So I was watching the movie, and I got to the spider snowflake and decided to come to TH-cam so I could try to copy what Jack does and make it myself…. Spoiler alert: it doesn’t work that way lmao
Why did the jazz people look away when Sally hit the ground.. she's literally a rag doll! She can't feel pain. She can literally fix herself. I always said that anytime I rewatch the movie
I mean, it's still a hard hit and pretty sure the jazz band are not that used to see townpeople jumping out of their towers that way
Actually, people in Halloween Town kinda do feel pain.
Remember when Sally accidentally poked Jack with a needle and he said "ow?"
Yet Jack and Sally are fine when they're disassembled. It must be whether or not it's natural to them or not 😅
1:35 that little part of the music that sounds very ballet Dancy elevating dazzling sound that makes you wanna dance in midair what's that called cause it sounds like I heard it in many soundtracks of other movies but I can't exactly remember?
