Prepare the space, make the space spare before (提前预留高音空间) . Think the voice this way, the audiences are there, the voice no up & down, (试想听众在前方，声音不应是上下走向，而是前后走向). Need more space & more body (需要更多空间和身体支持). His voice naturally rich, he needs the placement right (他天然声音漂亮，需要解决的是声音的正确安放)
Lolz He is teaching him right and his sound is good but he's placement is still too closed. He can still open up more and add more brightness to his sound. In that way he's sound would be clearer and seemingly effortless. Right now he sounds like he's pushing a truck up the stairs and that just means he's placement is not there yet.
Does the tenor singer belong to Beijing Central Opera & Dance Theatre or CCOM? So nice voice & singing technique, why we don't know his name? 7 years passed after this video taken, where is him now? Why we didn't see him on any concerts or TV programs?
someone told, that Mr. Peter Mark should be a massage therapist ,or guide planes into a airport.. that's the true evidence, that you didn't sing well. go to work or be a Guide or Massage therapist.
He's moving his arm to shift his focus, he wants him to let go of the over managing of the passagio he feels the singing is using. What he's hearing is correct, because his first passagio at D up from middle C, is not quite resonating in the most efficient space, then the singer has to negotiate a larger transition to the higher end of his voice , which the coach is hearing, like a gear change.
Outright: This coach doesn't have a clue! If he had he would have stopped the student on the first note, an f, when the student slid into this unnatural covered tone. And fumbling at the student's arm is bullshit as much as it is to show a different placement of each note by forming weird looking geometric figures. Gruesome! Shouldn't teach! Even more so Masterclasses. He is the type of teacher ruining students. Why was he hired at all?
He is moving is arm to show where he needs to support more and where the larynx need to come down more apposed to where they can be a bit more neutral. Notice how on the higher notes he moves the arm back and down more? Those are the notes that need more appoggio and for the larynx do go down more. He is getting him to lean the notes on his back muscles and open up the sound at the back. He wants him to think lower for high notes and higher for low notes. I do this similar things with my hands when I'm singing, not deliberately but just as a force of habit because of where I am trying to direct eveything.
