My favorites are probably From Atoms to Pixels, Bittersweet Butterflies, Zephyr, Mindburn, and Aetherborne, but everything in this album is awesome! I'm glad you made a video on this! If I had to choose one though, it might be Zephyr, but that's subject to change.
All 17 of them! But if I had to choose one , thrn it would be Mindburn. Was kinda hard to choose but this track sets such an image in my mind as if its a final battle
About the intro and outro: The sounds are indeed those of conversation. And it's actually possible to decode using clues from the music videos and a lot of patience, it's been dubbed "aetherspeak" or "machinespeak" by the community and it seems to describe the conversation between chime and the machine. In the intro to the LP, it's possible to decode the following: *Finally you have arrived* *Your help is needed, we are broken* *Only you can reform our fragments* *For this you will be granted eternal life among the stars* *Do you accept our quest?* *Step into the machineeeeeeeee* And in the outro (???) there is some worldbuilding and lore: *why am i still here* *this is all wrong* *the promise was false* *will i remain here for eternity* *wait* *i am the grand chime now* *this makes no sense* *get me the hell out of here* *help help help help help help help help help help help help help help* (yes, the little moteif at the start and end spells out help)
Im guessing that those 'fragments' represent that sound at the end that was heard in Sherwood , Zephyr and Beyond The Peak. At the end of Mindburn , we could hear those sounds thrice ,each in a different key of the song.
I definitely think there are a handful of tracks I wouldn't listen to on the daily, but the album as a whole has such good storytelling and immerses you in the story it makes you feel so many emotions!
I'm not sure if you noticed, but if you play the last song "???" And let the album loop back around, the ending melody ARP of ??? Is the starting melody ringing out in the beginning of Into the machine. I think it's super cool too suggest that there is a form of cyclical nature from this album. Also, I believe those weird alien talking sounds are actually text prompt popping up on a screen, because in the beginning you can hear those sounds ringing off like animal crossing characters, then it sounds like somebody's pressing an enter button, almost as though they are accepting the terms and conditions of entering the aether. And then at the end it seems almost like a farewell message or something, congratulating the person on making it through the whole album. This is really just spitballing, but that's my interpretation
One of the things that definitely gets me about this album is that the cover art actually showcases the journey the songs take you through, with homeworld to sheerwood, to beyond the peak, and so on
the intro on homeworld is an amazing touch. it turns the cover art into a video in your head. he hops across the rocks and takes a few steps onto the island. in terms of the journey this album gives, its the best of its kind.
It was actually featured on his Escapism EP on Spotify which came out back in 2015 which would make it at least 7 - 8 years old but I’m no Chime expert so I could also be mistaken
I don't know what it is about their music but when I get into it, some of their songs can just bring me to tears. Especially Beyond the Peak. I had heard the drop before on Interdimensional Radio, but the build up you get when you hear the full song for the first time. It's incredibly emotional. Their tracks take you on a journey and you can't help but want to be a part of it when you listen.
This album has been my absolute favourite album this year, the amount of love and care that has been put in this project is wonderful, i loved all the remasters & the album singles.
If I have to pick one track that's my favourite it is "Intermolecular Lullaby" I love all the little sounds in the track. Hornerable mentions to Mindburn, From Atoms to Pixels, Escape Velocity, Beyond the Peak & the remasters of Starstorm, Sherwood & Cloud Factory
I love how Homeworld had a reference to Goldfinch in it. As a whole, this album was amazing and told a a wonderful story. Mindburn has to be my absolute favorite.
This album is incredible. What a journey honestly. Not a single track that I don't like and on top of that, amazing artwork as well that fits perfectly. My favorite tracks right now are Bittersweet Butterflies, Bloom, Cloud Factory, Intermolecular Lullaby and Mindburn
Zephyr is an old track, Nawty... So it's absolutely normal it sounds like old Chime, it's part of the very first EP Chime released "Escapism EP". Released more than 7 years ago. Starstorm, Sherwood & Zephyr are old tracks from different years but they have been reworked, cleaned up, changes here and there. They are obviously better versions than their old versions while being the same I think the Mona Mua vocals are very good I don't get your critics. Her vocals sounds so ethereal, it's incredible with the drop coming in
Things I didn’t clock in the moment! Someone else brought this up on Twitter and yeah absolutely didn’t come to mind whilst I was making the vid. Can agree to disagree on the Mona vocal 😁
when you get the chance- listen to the drop in Mindburn through the end of the track and then through Aetherborne... it connects beautifully and it was stunning to hear.
@@Nawtystep yeah! Just to hear your thoughts after going through it a few times without having to stop and tali ab the track. Its hard to tell at some transitions but the whole thing is seamless
Imo this is the best like electronic album ever. Its such a journey from start to finish. Tons of genre variety, A lot of hidden meanings and messages. Its one of those albums you can get lost int. I love that it has both new and oldshcool chime influence. Remastering old songs as well. Easily my fav album. Ty chime for making it, ilyyyy
I have been eagerly waiting for this review. For me, the standout feature of this storytelling album is the lyrics from the track 'From Atoms to Pixel', particularly the line 'To trade my life for eternal colours among the stars', which seamlessly connects to the final track 'Starstorm'. My personal favorite from the album is 'Beyond that Peak'. It's an emotionally charged track with fantastic melodic dubstep elements. Further, your reviews are always insightful and I enjoy watching them. This one nailed to hit me.
coming back to this album a year later, I can really appreciate the story that Chime has developed throughout each song, it really makes it feel like one cohesive film is happening in my ears, that's why sound design is so superior!
Such a class project throughout honestly - not really a single track I dislike which is seriously impressive for a 17 track project. Just the type of project that puts a smile on your face at so many different moments, so happy for Chime to see so much positivity surrounding the project.
I think Mindburn had to be my favorite across the entire album. To me, it portrays the constant back and forth in your mind when you're attempting to move forward but are constantly fighting with the past that keeps trying to exert its force. It's chaotic, visceral, jarring, and beautiful all at the same time, and I don't think there's a better way to portray it than Chime did.
They don’t really work on TH-cam unfortunately. Uncut this came to 2hr5m - vast majority won’t consider clicking on the vid and I wouldn’t blame them. There’d be even more skipping which ruins a channel in itself. Everything included in uncut versions I deem to be important to the overall experience of my coverage, always :)
Thinking about it now, do you think we’ll get a xilent album soon? If you look at the dates of when he released his We Are ___ albums, they are mid may 4 years apart. And we last got one in 2019. 4 years ago
This album is wild! I can absolutely see it growing on me too, as I hear it more! My favorites include.. well.. honestly.. all except Zephyr and Starstorm, as they felt too basic.
I know that Aetherborne has been a really long made project so old stuff like sherwood or bloom was already made for the album. Zephyr lyrics also kinda fit with the aetherborne story so well, I assume that one was planned or at least thought of at that time. I don't know about other albums usually old songs tho xDD
Little feedback Connor! I think it would be better to have minimal editing besides cutting dead moments, but during the actual music I think unedited would be better so we get to see how every thing throws you :]
There are a lot of cool sounds used through out the album, but honestly, barely anything piqued my interest. Bloom, Beyond the Peak and Bittersweet Butterflies were pretty good, but beyond that there was barely anything too captivating which is a shame cause I hoped the whole album was going to be roughly similar to Bring Me Back
i listened to this album the other day, found it really boring tbh. like, its well made and all but the concept felt half baked, the mixing felt flat and it kinda turned the muscial version of sparkly wallpaper for me, really nice to look at but it being sparkly doesnt the change the fact it was still just wallpaper
Interesting take, curious how many times you’ve sat through it front to back? Surely enough going on here to give it multiple listens to see how it might grow on you?
@@Nawtystep not really honestly, i only sat through it once and tbh? i just dont see myself coming back to it for repeat listens since i pretty much got all i needed from just that first listen alone and it didnt leave much of anything on me that would warrant another listen like i would get out of other chime releases (ex. bring me back, voidwalkers, the other side)
I'm oddly the opposite, im someone who less like into other chime stuff especially the monstercat release as they felt more like generic colourbass now. Like they not bad and does bop, but some of those just doesn't feel unique for me to relisten. But somehow the album found to be a big refreshing album for me for colourbass and electronic in general, and I found myself addicted to it.
🌈 What are you guys making of Chime’s debut LP? Favourite track of the 17?
Drop your thoughts in the comments! ✨

Mine’s Mindburn, for sure.
Intermolecular Lullaby for me, love the spacey vibe on that one
About the intro and outro: The sounds are indeed those of conversation. And in the outro (???) there is some worldbuilding and lore:
*why am i still here*
*this is all wrong*
*the promise was false*
*will i remain here for eternity*
*wait*
*i am the grand chime now*
*this makes no sense*

I'd honestly say after listening to bitter sweet butterflies, that if gives off such Madeon vibes!!! Especially with the vocal chopping!

that melody spells out ‘help’, which is also the translation for the characters in the pfp for all of Chime’s socials
This is a masterpiece of an album. Honestly love the whole concept of writing a story alongside the music and this definitely shows the magic of that.
I second this.
I third this.

Exactly, so damn awesome
never have I heard an album in that color bass style of music with that kind of scope and worldbuilding... and I'm all here for it
Fun fact: Zephyr is actually a song that he made 5 to 6 years ago, and is now being remastered in this album.
