  • My Honda TD500HL local auction purchase which I needed to do some work for me, but it needed some TLC to get it fully functioning and give it a bit more value when I do come to sell it on. Engine runs but not well and a bunch of other bits need fixing.

Thank you so much for taking the time to create this video. I really enjoyed it, and alongside that, I found it very informative. I have one of these dumpers, and I have similar issues to the ones you’ve been resolving. I don’t have mechanical hands, but you have given me the confidence to give it a go. I’ll let you know how I get on. Thanks.

When ordering belts, the letters are important.
If you had ordered an SB 27 belt then it would have fitted.
The letters classify the cross section of the belt.

Yup, my amateur half-knowledge meant I thought I’d worked it out but I was clearly wrong.

I shouldn't worry to much about the belt issue, we've all done it. A couple of times I have ordered what I thought was the right belt or bolt for something only to to realize that I read a number wrong. 🤗🤔

But then you have a spare for whatever it DOES fit which maybe you’ll own one day.

Engineers who design this stuff should have to mechanic on the things before their designs get approved.

I think car manufacturers need that thinking too. Korean and Japanese cars usually do and are lovely to service, everything accessible or with a simple panel to unclip. Ford however, wow.

Can I ask which supplier you got the parts from? Prices seems to vary wildly.
For example prices (all incl VAT) below for the same Bando Red S2 SB27 belt.
    Seddon (the dumpers manufacturer): £27.66
L&S Part (stock a range of parts for the dumper): £41.48
    Totally Belts: £9.01

Can’t remember who I got that belt from, possibly totally belts but I couldn’t find an order email from them. I do however use a combination in general of L&S Engineers, Garden Hire Spare (GHS), Seddon Plant, Simply Bearings, Bearing Boys and often sellers on eBay depending what it is. They all vary in their pricing so much I often shop around for parts.

Delighted to come across your channel, I've just bought the same machine at auction in Yorkshire and for the same reason as yourself!
Do you know if the LHS clutch level serves any purpose? I only need to press down the RHS clutch lever to track my machine although that means your right hand is tied up holding that clutch lever down to track the machine and that then makes using the RHS break level difficult.
I believe that perhaps my LHS clutch is missing a linkage that would allow either the LHS or RHS clutch independently make the machine track thereby allowing either hand to use the eiter the LHS /RHS break lever as required to steer the machine. Appreciate to hear your thoughts!
And just to add what you are calling the clutch I am calling the break lever, if that makes sense!

So the top levers should be connected together and operate together. Pushing either one down against the handle should move both together, they are bolted together. That engages the clutch. Handles underneath brake each track. Yes you need big hands to be able to hold down the lever and pull up a brake. But it doesn’t sound like your left lever isn’t connected to the right on and it should be.
