Back in the day, the University of Texas liked to refer to themselves as "The University." This was a dig at the Aggies, whose school was not a university. Until 1963, Texas A&M was (officially, by name) just a college. But they taught the Aggies some grammar at this college, and the cadets understood that "The University" was not a proper name. So, if the Longhorns wanted to call themselves "the university" that's fine, but it should be written in lower-case letters; and the abbreviation for that isn't U.T., it's t.u. That's where "t.u." comes from!
My dad’s class ring said College instead of University like mine. Great point. Also that Bevo was named,Ed that bc instead of sawing his horns off(literally) they branded him 13-0 bc that was the score. Hence B EV O
@@stischer47 That's what made it a dig on the Aggies when the Longhorns called themselves "the university." It doesn't have to be capitalized -- and it would be improper to capitalize it -- BECAUSE those are the rules of the English language. Okay... It's kinda petty, but it was just the Aggies' way of turning a Longhorn insult back on them. They never really understood it. You will still hear Longhorns complaining that the Aggies inverted U.T., and that they're being disrespectful by not capitalizing the initial for the State of Texas. Oh well... There are some kinds of stupid that just can't be fixed. But, to be more charitable, most Aggies don't know exactly where the "t.u." moniker came from either. I posted my comment because in my view this video (created by an Aggie) didn't get it entirely right.
@@theNfl_Esq My dad was at Texas A&M in 1963 when it switched, so he had the option of choosing "College" or "Univsersity" on his class ring. He chose the latter.

You forget to mention that for the first nearly 100 years, the school was a military school. During WWI, WWII, Korean War, and Vietnam War, much of their enrollment was enlisted for war. Also, A&M still places more officers into the military than any other school in the country.
A lot of the traditions began when A&M was an ag college with a train stop on the railroad between Houston and Dallas (they would load onto the train to go to dances in Denton held by Texas Women's University), reinforced by its isolation and military traditions. Even for those of us who are not Aggies, we understand their traditions. I get goosebumps upon hearing the trumpet call at the beginning of the Aggie War Hymn.
@@opentile_minis8659 Forgive me. Perhaps “caused them” would have been more accurate. Although, they did kind of force their hand in making the decision, so…..tomato, tomAHto. And, how come all the longhorn fans dress up like Aggies instead of dressing like cows. What’s up with that, anyway?
Went to an Aggie game back when I was in college. Went to Midnight Yell, tailgating and sat in the student section. Excellent college football atmosphere
The gesture Manziel gives after a touchdown was started by a teammate. The sign represents that scoring was their way of “cashing in” on all the hard work they had done during the offseason.
The insecurity that A&M has about Texas (that would be The University of Texas) and the way they pretend to be the only school that has traditions is highly annoying
Dang. We never even think about aggie unless there's a decommit. They have whole rituals dedicated to us. 😮 Between the lack of cheerleaders, military cosplay, and childish nicknames they give everyone the whole school is just cringe. Glad to have the game back 🤘
Dang. Nobody thinks about t.u. ... ever. Even when we're singing the wat hymn, it's really just autopilot. That's just what y'all have been telling yourselves to stay relevant in your own minds over the last decade and a half.

Most medals of honor in SWC and SEC history by a mile.

The t.u. cow’s name was “Varsity” back then. The Aggie’s forced them to change its’ name to bevo. Another story
they did not "force them" they branded "13-0" on the side of a longhorn, and UT thought that 13-0 kinda looked like Bevo. 13EV0.

video about Aggie traditions...and they called the first "former student" in the video "alum" nice :)
I am sure the narrator knew the difference. It was just more descriptive to the intended audience. He did a good job 👍
I'm proud to be a Aggie, also by grandfather was a teammate with E. King Gill (The 12th Man)!

Ben Malena… miss that guy
The very first Maroon Out caused a temporary national shortage of Maroon Shirts.
For those unaware, Maroon Out was started as an A&M-flavored response to Nebraska's traditional "sea of red" at Husker home games.
Doing my research cuz this is who im running with in college football 25
A&M finally getting the recognition we deserve. Forgot to mention what happens down at North Gate 😂😂
Class of ‘07, whoop!

You guys should cover every major school.
If there was one word to describe Texas A&M, it would be *orthodox.* Aggies always hold true to their traditions.

Doesn’t look like a very diverse place, outside of athletics. 🤔
If only they valued winning as much as they value their "traditions". Cults are a weird thing though.

Need to add cheerleaders already. Stuck in the stone ages.
I guess we go down to a strip joint and get them.

In a 11 minute video. I didn’t see not 1 black fan of Texas A&M in the stands or crowd! Yikes 😬🥴
Dude I saw multiple 😂. You must be blind lmao
Didn’t see any redheads either. Freaking ridiculous how exclusive Aggies are to just blondes and brunettes. 🥴
