    Your reaction is adorable, as you are! That smile says it ALL! This is just an all-around terrific song! At the risk of sounding old (which I am) they don't make them like this anymore!

    Hi Empress, a great reaction to a fun little song. Hearing this song brought back memories of when I was newly married back in the early 80's. I would come home from work at lunch time and my wife would have lunch ready for me. On the radio you could call in and request a song to be played during lunch time and they would play the recording of you requesting and why you want that song to be played. I called in to play this song and the reason I told the DJ is that my wife everyday has lunch ready for me when I come home. I went home at lunch time and I turned on the radio and sure enough they played me saying why and they played the song. She was so happy. Thanks again for reminding me this.

    The lead singer Howard Kaylan is a great friend of mine and we've been friends on social media for over 10 years.
    When I met him backstage at a concert in 2017 it was exactly 50 years after he met
    The Beatles, Brian Jones of
    The Rolling Stones, and
    Jimi Hendrix all on the
    same night in 1967.
    Then by the end of the concert.. I ended up being on stage with him and some of the other acts, singing this song ☮️

    The Turtles are a very underrated band from that era. They have so many catchy songs. Elenor, You Baby, It Ain't Me Babe (Bob Dylan cover I think), You Showed Me, She'd Rather Be With Me, Eve of Destruction etc

    • @sst3d
      @sst3d 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Barry McGuire did eve of destruction…

    • @thomastimlin1724
      @thomastimlin1724 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sst3d Yes but the Turtles covered it around the same time on their album. it was my understanding from what I've seen/read that they recorded it around the same time but McGuire beat them to it in releasing it [and his version is better of course or it would not have climbed to #1].

    • @sst3d

      @@thomastimlin1724 That is really crazy to imagine. As the Empress immediately realized, the hallmark of The Turtles was "feel good songs" which were the exact opposite in every conceivable way to the apocalyptic "Eve of Destruction". It is true that the band members are very well known for working with a wide range of other legendary artists at the time, including Frank Zappa, and had some folk roots as well (and covered Dylan) - also Merry Pranksters as illustrated by the tender moment of the horn being placed on Kaylan's head. So yeah, you never knew what to expect from them so makes me wonder if they're cover of "Eve of Destruction" is a satire of a song that was revered by many during it's time, but also lambasted and made fun of by some for being over the top -- a Vietnam War protest song on steroids.

      Nobody seems able to upload Neil Young studio recordings. Just live. Unfortunate. I would like to see someone react to the live Sugar Mountain though. Always obscure lyrics, but they make you feel good. Nowadays Clancy Can't Even Sing may be my favorite Springfield.

    Your appreciation Empress for lead singer Howard Kaylan's voice is spot on point. Mr. Kaylan is one of the most underrated singers from the 1960's (IMHO) Happy Together was the Turtles break out song (reaching #1 in America on 14 February 1967) and a Top 10 hit in many countries around the world. The Turtles had a stage persona of clowning round and having fun while performing which made them fun to watch...the drummer twirling his sticks, the two leaders in front laughing and playing off of each other etc. and other band members. Songs to try are You Baby, Let Me Be, Elenore, She'd Rather Be With Me, their version of Eve of Destruction, She's My Girl. Turtles had continuing management problems, stealing money from them etc. Funny thing is, they played at the United State's White House, the President's home, for his daughter's birthday party, [President Nixon] in 1969, but they were high on pot and nobody knew, not even the Secret Service, according to a video they put out about their story, 2 decades later. I found that story hysterical considering Nixon was paranoid of the long haired youth of the era, and drug users and all that. Can't verify it was true of course. But that's what the the two front men of the band said in their video, long before the internet was up😂

    When this song first came out in 1967 my girlfriend heard it before I did. I was at her house and she was making coffee and started to sing the ending chorus, "So happy together, and how is the weather". I interrupted her and said "Wow, that's pretty cool, I could write a song around that phrase. Of course we'd have to change the words to something that made sense." She started laughing and told me she didn't make it up and it was a new song by The Turtles. I wasn't convinced until she sang me a verse from it :)

    Its a pop classic, but there's something almost sinister, certainly melancolic, about the Music. Have you done "She's Not There" by the Zombies? I have a feeling you'll love it. There's a later version of the same tune (better in my opinion) by Zombies singer Colin Blunstone, but under the name Neil Macarthur.
